Rurik Voralius |
Rurik always seems to have a slightly amused smile, and does his best to follow directions though it's rather clear that he's not exactly experienced in this regard.
DM Dickie |
Calseinica smiles at Eidi. "Very pleased to meet you," she replies sounding earnest and friendly. In answer to your question about her previous work she tells you excitedly, "When Lady Aulamaxa was injured by that awful accident a few months back, I was her understudy in the role of the Witch of the Roses in The Winter of White Roses! I'm so glad to be working with her again, despite the trouble that came of that. You know, she actually recommended me to Nonan Robhal? Oh, acting is such a pleasure. It is truly a gift to be on stage!"
Tania Teg |
Tania gets deeply invested in the tailoring of her clothes, providing advice and making sure she will look as good as possible on stage. "If I die, let me die with style!" she keeps hammering with a disarming smile.
Noticing Delour, she turns to Boghal: "Pardon me, Maestro, but who is this important persona? Could you introduce us?"

DM Dickie |
Noticing Delour, she turns to Boghal: "Pardon me, Maestro, but who is this important persona? Could you introduce us?"
"You needn't worry about Lady Aulamaxa!" the director snaps at Talia, "Worry about hitting your cues!"
Talia does notice that the plump human woman looking at her during this exchange, and when Robhal moves to berate one of the crew elsewhere, the woman will step forward and holds her ringed hand out for Talia in a courtly gesture she clearly expects to be met with a kiss. "Do not worry about that blowhard, my dear. He is under a lot of pressure and likes to take it out on everyone around him."
Eidi looks intrigued at Aulamaxa "Calseinica, you mean her recommended you for this dangerous position? What accident exactly happened?"
"Oh, it was awful," the young woman's eyes grow large as she relates the tale of how Aulamaxa was struck by a cart when an imp driver lost control of it's horses. "Even with the magic of the priests, she was in bed for days. I had to perform in her place, and then even when she was back on her feet, they kept me on. Lady Aulamaxa was a little upset. She thought I was sleeping with our director, but he just didn't want to replace a lead in the middle of the production. I guess she finally forgave me though."

So during the actual play itself, there will be a variety of challenges, even a couple of fights, but so far the director is keeping some of those details to himself. Anyone with a non-speaking role finds the director yelling at them to stand somewhere and emote fear or horror at appropriate cues.
Tania Teg |
Tania turns and bows with great flourish to the woman, kissing her ringed hand: "Lady Aulamaxa! What an immense honour it is to finally meet you! I have heard nothing but enraptured comments about your performance. Perhaps you would be so kind as to provide a word of advice to a clueless débutante such as myself?"
Tania lets a twinkle in her eyes and an intensity in her grip that suggests there might perhaps be something more on offer than just mentorship...
Eidi |
Eidi looks back at Aulamaxa "That is a strong accusation for a colleague. What kind of mind can make up for such a gossip... It is better if you take care. You are young and perhaps do not realise on how deceptive some subjects can become. If she makes something out of normal let me know and I will try to mediate "
The monk then links his own hands and bows in a peaceful way.
Rurik Voralius |
Rurik is a bit out of place, having to learn conventions of theater and not sure who his co-stars are, but he at least brings an earnest eagerness to the task.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt |
Tanrov is a bit lost, but he is not stranger to preaching and will attempt to bull through his lines if he can
Rurik Voralius |
"Thank you, Beorn," says Rurik. "I'm really unfamiliar with any but the most basic conventions of theater. I'm really afraid I'm just going to trip everything up."
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt |
"As Ruric says, I can go into it with boldness but I'll still not know what I'm doing, your help is necessary. "
DM Dickie |
Garridan can attempt a diplomacy check to see how well Aulamaxa responds to him. I'm going to be flexible with time here a little bit, but don't let that stop you from following up individual threads. Think of it as a montage of the week of rehearsals.
While the first day was mostly centered around costuming, things begin to really hit their stride the next day in terms of memorizing lines and hitting marks. Everyone seems to be focused intently on their performances, but only Thessing is currently being critical. Robhal's normal insults are replaced by focused professionalism today.
DM Dickie |
Aulamaxa smiles politely at Garridan, blushing through her make-up when he complements her. "Thank you, Master Garridan, what a lovely complement. I am, of course, quite busy helping the chorus excel, but I will do what I can when possible. I wish only to see this production excel."
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt |
Tanrov will practise his lines and actions he will do so with such gusto and violence attempting to intimidate the crowd into liking him or admiring him
intimidation: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
DM Dickie |
On the third day, things start to turn into a routine. Everyone continuously running lines and performing. Robhal's insults take on a more personal tone as he begins to know his performers better, and the crew are seen less as they are busy toiling away with set design and special effects planning.
I will need to go over things to replace Tania and figure out how to simplify something mechanical from the book, but if anyone needs to take specific actions (such as continuing to attempt to befriend any of the NPCs) feel free. See also my post in the Discussion thread for some other info.
Eidi |
In addition to keeping his daily talk with Calseinica, Eidi attempts to get closer to Aulamaxa. With a shallow gesture of his head, the monk approaches the woman taking some thee for her and offering it "It seems we are making something big here. I have heard of your experience, I am glad you are around."
And more casually adding "What do you think about Robhal and the work he is building up here?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14
DM Dickie |
Beorne approaches the humpback stageworker. MY GOOD MAN! HAVE YOU BEEN PRIVY TO ANY OF THE FRIGHTFUL THREATS WE MUST FACE? IT WOULD BE A SHAME IF WE CAME UNPREPARED!
Milech grunts at Beorn. "Cannae talk boot it much. Ye'll be fine, lad. I ken it frightenin' to ye, what wit' how Larazod kilt afore. I wanna see it goanoff wi' oot a hitch."
Everyone takes notice of the absence of Tania this day, especially Robhal. The director waits until the lunch break before pointing at Tanrov and snapping, "You're my new Drovalid!"
"That might have seemed a risky movement but I promise you that we will make a good job at the dais" Eidi makes a small reverence "I am glad you got a role not that risky as ours. How do you feel about your character?"
"I am simply happy to be a part of this great production!" she smiles, "There are no true roles I would be appropriate for, after all. However, Robhal has such a grand vision."
Eidi |
Sense motives: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Despite his training Eidi has a hard job to read through Aulamaxa's real feelings. He just attempts a soft smile and adds "Indeed, we have a good pack here. I hope we can convince the whole new family to have a drink after work one day. I am sure Beorn will accept to perform one of his amusing songs for us"
With that the monk greats back the woman and continues his daily training, updating the other members of the party as possible during the day.
Garidan the Glacier |
Garidan approaches the others and quietly inquires "have any of you seen Tania?" Could she have been captured? This is all too coincidental...she knew of our plans. If the others get a hold of her... He tries to shake the thought from his head. He knew all too well what they would do to her. We must get word to Penumbra.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt |
"Drovalid? I don't know the role.... I was having a bad enough time remembering those lines now I have to change to learning new lines? You will help me alot for if I am embarrassed on stage it will not do me well in the spreading of Pharasmas faith"
Tanrov puffz his chest and arms out to emphasize his strength and glares ar Robhal
Intimidation: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Rurik Voralius |
Rurik diplomatically says, "Don't worry, Tanrov, it's a better role and that will get you more exposure, which means it's a better deal for visibility of Pharasma."
Eidi |
Eidi was starting to get intrigued by the swift woman, but she was too new too him to be too concerned "She probably was not convinced about all this and decided to invest her time differently. Let's try to keep focused in our mission"
The monk attempts to perform monk movements as a dance at the dais.
Perform (martial arts?): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
DM Dickie |
By the close of the third day, everyone is worn out. A handful of fans wait outside the Limehouse when rehearsals conclude, however, begging for autographs. Most seek the popular professional actors, however young Calseinica and Beorn have several admirers.
Performance Beorn: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Performance Eidi: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Performance Rurik: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Performance Tanrov: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Performance Garidan: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Day 3 Popularity = 22
"That's him, the tiefling, he's one to watch!" a half-elf woman is overheard telling her well-dressed friends.
Garidan the Glacier |
Garidan spent most of his time writing and preparing his reports so it was not surprising that he missed some queues and forgot a few lines. He assumed he would get a visit from their expert, but he paid the man little attention and even less respect. He had more important things to worry about, or so he thought.
Attention Commander,
Very little information has been gleamed about this "Penumbra" so far. She is most likely a human, elf, or half-elf. Descriptions are varied and are not supported, but she appears to be of slight build of average female height. She appears to be protected by the common people. So far, no one is willing to identify her. Investigations continue.
Armiger Garidan
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt |
At Eidis ribbing.. "I only hope I'm still taken seriously after this" Tanrov rumbles. Looking slightly sheepish
Tania Teg |
Tania blunders in at the end of the third day, her cloak sweeping high and her great leather boots clanking menacingly on the floorboards. Her gaze scans the crowd, ignoring the questions about to be asked, until it lands on Beorn, who is always easier to hear than to see.
She walks up to him and, as she does so, drops her usual bravado, her mien turning apologetic; an unsettling sight.
"Beorn! Can you ever forgive me? I was set upon, and very nearly taken, by a band of brutes, as I passed the Swollen Gate in Rego Cader. I had to hide to save my skin! I am back however, and wish to continue in our common endeavour. Can you find me a spot on stage still? I have studied the play while hiding, fear not!"
Of course, most of it is a lie, but Tania hopes Beorn will either not notice, or care.
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Rurik Voralius |
"You're lucky to be alive!" says Rurik with a look of some shock. "Just street brigands, or was it dottari or some other agents?" He clearly seems concerned about Tania's story.
