Bah, not this it matters since I rolled well, but those should each be 2 lower. I forgot to adjust for the penalty for fighting defensively.

AC 27, Deflect Arrows (8 rounds)

Zephra deals the troll a mighty blow and it yells in pain.

Creeden deals the troll attacking Jenn another series of blows.

Jenn, Timona and Ortensia, your actions

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia steered her globe of flame into the trolls, weaving it to avoid her companions.

Try not too to get singed!

Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

The troll screams as the fire burns its flesh

Jenn and Timona, what are you doing?

Not sure if you need more.

Anyone else doing anything

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia, steering her spell, maneuvered it towards the trio of goblins. They she could get to without worrying about getting stabbed trying to ascend the tower.

dagger: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

With her dagger attack Zephra drops the remaining troll

Loot: 3 shortswords
3 shortbows

One of the goblins carries a small amulet of a gagged skull. (You can have a knowledge religion check on that).

There is also a staf of swarming insects with 7 charges.
A pair of bellows
a shovel
a sledge
a battered tankard
208gp
345sp.

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia, seeing that all hostiles were accounted for and deceased, she ended the spell even though she had a minute or so remaining. A sheen of sweat clung to her brow.

Whew.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18Religion Know

Although she wasn't one for religion, she recognized the amulet as a symbol. She pried it from the pried remains of the goblins charred by her spell.

She blew on it as she rolled it in her gloved palm....This is...!

Ortensia, you are unable to recognise the symbol.

However, Zephra is able to recognise the symbol as that of the Whispering Way.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"Whew, nice work everyone. The Whispering Way? Do you think they are in league with the Beast's father? A curious situation gets even curiouser."

Female Catfolk Bard (Song Healer) 5 HP 53/53 | AC15 Tch12 FF14 | CMD15/FF14 | F+3 R+6 W+5 (+2 vs fear) | Init+1 | Perc+11Lowlight Vision

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

"Curious symbol." Timona examines it after she stops playing the banjo.

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia frowned before pocketing the symbol. Something told her it would be best if she kept hold of the distasteful thing...for now.

Whatever they're machinations hereabouts,we're on the right trail. Every step we take, the closer we get to whatever deviousness they're up to. All we can do is clean up and set right what remains before we're in thee position to stop them. At least, this branch of it.

What do you want to do next?

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

Are there stairs up? If not, I vote for crossing over to the next building.

Yeah there is an upstairs and side rooms on the downstairs (sorry the map removed some of the notes for some reason)

Where do you want to go?

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

"I wonder what drew these creatures here? Perhaps we should search this area for clues before moving on."

I say search the side rooms and upstairs.

Ok so got things a bit confused there, there is an upstairs, no side rooms (that's in the next bit).

In the upstairs is the chamber the troll with the crossbow was firing from. In this room is a large size heavy crossbow with 20 bolts and 20 mummified hands, three hatpins worth 75gp each and a spyglass worth 1000gp.

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

"Mummified hands? What a macabre collection! I think we are safe to gather these valuables and move on into this compound."

1 person marked this as a favorite.
F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Zephra almost hisses when she sees the amulet. "The Whispering Way!" she gasps with pious anger. "Our enemies view undeath as an ideal way to be, and a source of, uh, power. They must be stopped! I have trained to fight them, and fight them I will. Uh, or shall. Shall? Fight them I shall!"

(Zephra has a ranger-like abiliy called Know the Infidel when fighting members of the Whispering Way. It is sort of like they are her favored enemy. She will tell her allies anything she knows about them that is particularly relevant. Let me know if you need a Lore: Whispering Way check! :D She's admittedly kind of dumb, but she *has* spent a lot of skill points on that particular branch of knowledge.)

The only way onards is through the double doors onto the walkway

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

"Stay close, but keep your eyes open for more surprises. This visit has turned into quite the test of our capabilities."

Creeden will try the door and open it if it isn't locked, then proceed across the walkway.

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia carefully cleaned the hatpins and stitched them into her veil. The spyglass was buffed, mindful of the troll who had been handling it.

She didn't wish to catch anything.

The hands were probably trophies from past victims.

Those were promptly booted off the top of the tower to rot naturally.

Being the largest and strongest of her companions,Ortensia carried the oversized crossbow and its bolt strapped to her belt. In time she could learn to use it,but it would be better off sold.

The double doors open easily. A slender stone bridge arches gracefully over a roaring waterfall here, linking the gatehouse to a fortified manor house clinging to the cliff on the far side. In the middle of the bridge is an alchemical hound, similar to the one you encountered at Vorgstag and Grine

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

Creeden will approach the hound, ready to attack if it gets aggressive.

"No need to attack us, hound. We are just here visiting your master."

Female Catfolk Bard (Song Healer) 5 HP 53/53 | AC15 Tch12 FF14 | CMD15/FF14 | F+3 R+6 W+5 (+2 vs fear) | Init+1 | Perc+11Lowlight Vision

Following behind Creeden and try to fascinate the creature with a performance. DC 17 Will to negate

Fascinate (Su):
At 1st level, a bard can use his performance to cause one or more creatures to become fascinated with him. Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear the bard, and capable of paying attention to him. The bard must also be able to see the creatures affected. The Distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents the ability from working. For every three levels a bard has attained beyond 1st, he can target one additional creature with this ability.

Each creature within range receives a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the bard’s level + the bard’s Cha modifier) to negate the effect. If a creature’s saving throw succeeds, the bard cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and observes the performance for as long as the bard continues to maintain it. While fascinated, a target takes a –4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat to the target allows the target to make a new saving throw against the effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect.

Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability. Fascinate relies on audible and visual components in order to function.

Fascinated

She sings a song about nice creature let us pass and to keep guard of the place after we do. She will motion for the party to pass as she sings and passes as well, unless it fails and the creature attacks.

Unfortunately, the spell has no effect on the creature (immunity to magic). It backs up and starts a low growl.

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia, sensing an unfavorable situation, set the oversized heavy crossbow down with a thump. She set to loading it with a bolt, straining with her considerable strength to crank it winch.

I know it'll take a fullround action to load this thing so I'll wait. I also know it's -6 on my attack rolls due to it being an oversized wpn.

It's an alchemical golem. Immunity to magick and damage resistance. And I do believe this one is of much better craftsmanship than the one we saw at the Chymic works!

F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Zephra moves to the front, next to Creeden, daggers drawn. "Why wouldn't our friend The Beast have instructed them to let us in? I worry something has happened to him." She readies an action to attack if the creature comes toward them.

The creature's growling becomes louder, it looks as if it is getting ready to bark.

You can have 1 surprise round action each and then we need to go to initiative

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

Creeden steps into the doorway and readies a blow.

"This fellow doesn't look very friendly."

Five-foot step forward, ready a defensive attack if the dog come within reach.

Readied Attack:

Unarmed Strike (defensive): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 for Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Can Zephra charge the dog as a standard action? It looks like it's going to call for help, would be good if we can silence it quickly.

Charge attack, using dagger: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Dagger damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Yeah that's fine Zephra can charge.

Zephra charges forward and smashes into the creature, although it manages to deflect some of the damage

Anyone else?

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

1d20 + 7 - 6 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 6 = 13
2d8 + 2 ⇒ (1, 8) + 2 = 11

Awkward with the oversized crossbow,Ortensia aimed at the patchwork creature's flank as it reeled from Sister Zephra's charging tackle with her dagger.

THWUMP.

It fired with enough force to send her jolting back, the bolts shrieking as it streaked down the bridge off-center with all the force of a launched javelin.

Ortensia's back hit the doorway as she steadied herself, flustered.

...OH.

The bolt bounces off the beast's flank.

Timona and Jenn, what are you doing?

Jenn fires hers shortbow at the creature

Shortbow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Timona also fires her shortbow

shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
