Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30

"Careful, I might know what those are."

Ortensia and Timona you recognise the beasts as trollhounds. They have some small amounts of regeneration other than to acidic or fire damage. They have the ability to trip their opponents and their bite carries a disease called bloodfire fever that does strength and dex damage and causes the victim to become fatigued.

Jenn, you are able to sneak a little without them seeing you (please move yourself on the map to where you want to go). You can hear what sounds like trolls and goblins grunting at each other from the gatehouse. There is a single troll patrolling with a spyglass in the southwest tower of the gatehouse, it does not seem to have noticed you guys yet

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia grimaced with distaste. Trolls, trollhounds, and goblins.

The risk of being slain, eaten, or afflicted for disease. Lovely.

The best case scenario would be to avoid confrontation by sneaking past them. Or take them out in a preemptive fashion. Using copious amounts of fire and acid.

She pondered what to do, taking note that Jenn had slunk off quick as a weasel.

The only real way to the mansion is through the gatehouse, the area you are in is approx 100 feet above the river

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

"Would the Beast have invited us if the guards would attack? Although it doesn't seem likely, perhaps they will be friendly?"

Creeden scratches his head.

Although if the owner of the manor employs trolls as guards, he might be less friendly than we assumed.

F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Zephra looks a bit confused by this development. "It does seem odd that such creatures are guarding the castle. Isn't our friend expecting us? Maybe circumstances here have changed since we last saw him."

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

...I doubt it. Monstrous humanoids such as trollkin and Goblinoids are nothing but opportunistic. The guardhouse may very well be abandoned or fell to disuse so they moved in. Ortensia rummaged through her sat hel, searching for appropriate items.

...I do have a spell that can wipe away our obstacle with an unnecessary amount of fire. I don't want to take out the bridge and the gatehouse doing so...If we can lure them out, I'm confident I can minimize our risk of catching bloodfire fever.

From the way that the trollhounds and the troll in the tower are acting it seems likely that they are not overly familiar with their surroundings

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

"I can be an extremely distracting lure. Would you like me to get their attention?"

Female Catfolk Bard (Song Healer) 5 HP 53/53 | AC15 Tch12 FF14 | CMD15/FF14 | F+3 R+6 W+5 (+2 vs fear) | Init+1 | Perc+11Lowlight Vision

"We were invited no? So let's just go up?" Timona thinks this is odd. "Maybe be on guard and go up and ask?"

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

They're squatters. Creeden, please draw them out from the gatehouse. I have an impressive incinderary spell. I just need you to be clear. Anything left we shall put down by hand and search the guardhouse.

Ortensia pulled out the thunderstone she had been carrying, handing it to the halfling brawler. If you need any help with making noise, there's a thunderstone.

She concentrated, making a circular motion with her hands as she began walking forwards. Heat started to rise off her hand in sheets.

Flaming Sphere. Gonna go bowling for trolls

F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Zephra walks directly behind Ortensia, hoping to pick off any enemies who remain, though still a little puzzled about the circumstances.

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

"I will do my best!"

I wish I knew some proper insults in trollish. Something to look into when we get back to town.

Creeden moves forward and waves his arms at the trollhounds, then lobs the thunderstone at the closest one.

Thunderstone: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Human Female UC Rogue 6 Init +4 | HP 42/42 | AC 20 T 16 FF 15 | F4 R9 W3 | CMB 8 (10/dirty trick) CMD 22 (24/dirty trick) | Perc. +10 | Spd. 30 | SA +3d8/3d4

Female Catfolk Bard (Song Healer) 5 HP 53/53 | AC15 Tch12 FF14 | CMD15/FF14 | F+3 R+6 W+5 (+2 vs fear) | Init+1 | Perc+11Lowlight Vision

Timona gets ready with her banjo in hand as she watches the thunderstone launch at the trollhounds.

Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Creeden throws the thunderstone. It does not deafen the creatures but their attention is pulled towards Creeden rather than you others.

Is anyone else taking a surprise round action?

Human Female UC Rogue 6 Init +4 | HP 42/42 | AC 20 T 16 FF 15 | F4 R9 W3 | CMB 8 (10/dirty trick) CMD 22 (24/dirty trick) | Perc. +10 | Spd. 30 | SA +3d8/3d4

Those were some impressive rolls. :( Jenn is going to watch and wait, and will assist Creeden shortly if the situation does not change.

Timona will strum her banjo to inspire courage upon your allies.
+2 atk, dmg & vs fear

Forgot that this actually went up to a +2 at level 5

Think we need to go to initiative at this point

Timona initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Zephra initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Jenn initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Creeden initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Ortensia initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Trollhound initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

[ooc]So initiative order is:

Block 1: Creeden, Jenn + Zephra

Block 2: Trollhounds

Block 3: Timona and Ortensia

So Block 1 to go first

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

Creeden whistles sharply at the trollhounds, just to make sure he has their attention, then sets himself to attack when one draws near.

Ready an action to attack (defensively) when a trollhound comes within reach.

Readied Attack (defensive, inspired): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31 for Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

AC 27 after the attack.

Human Female UC Rogue 6 Init +4 | HP 42/42 | AC 20 T 16 FF 15 | F4 R9 W3 | CMB 8 (10/dirty trick) CMD 22 (24/dirty trick) | Perc. +10 | Spd. 30 | SA +3d8/3d4

Jenn waits for the hounds to move towards Creeden, then will charge out behind one (setting up a flank, if the positioning works), and stab it, if that works.

Zacharias: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 2 = 28
damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
SA (scout's charge): 3d8 ⇒ (5, 2, 5) = 12

If that doesn't work, Jenn will hold until she sees where they end up, and then act.

Zephra, what are you doing?

F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Zephra tries to focus her mind on the events at hand, and casts another spell. A femur bone that glows with Pharasma's holy symbol appears and begins floating protectively around the warpriest.

She casts defending bone.

Female Catfolk Bard (Song Healer) 5 HP 53/53 | AC15 Tch12 FF14 | CMD15/FF14 | F+3 R+6 W+5 (+2 vs fear) | Init+1 | Perc+11Lowlight Vision

When it's my turn, Timona will let her performance linger and cast Cat's Grace on Ortensia. "Be swift as a cat!" She sings

+1 atk, dmg & vs fear; inspire courage
+4 enhancement bonus to Dexterity on Ortensia; Cat's Grace

The trollhounds move forward and charge at Creeden. Creeden is ready and smacks one as it comes near. It roars in pain but before it can retaliate Jenn sneaks up and stabs it and it falls.

The remaining Trollhound attacks Creeden.

Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Fort save DC14 if it hits you.

On to block 3

Ortensia, what are you doing?

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia gestures and a globe of flame bloomed to life between her hands that she sent in an underhanded throw to send it rolling like she was playing a game of tenpins.

She aimed towards the trollhounds charging Creeden, using her mind to control its path as she walked after it to keep it in range.

3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) = 10Flaming Sphere dmg

Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

I'm assuming a 12 is a fail on the save?

the troll hound howls in pain as the ball of fire hits it

At this point the lookout in the tower becomes aware that something is going in and starts to load a heavy crossbow. At the same time there is shouting coming from behind the gatehouse door

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Yep. At least DC 14.

Ortensia saw this and moved closer, hoping to get close enough to direct the fireball up into the tower.

Incoming,heavy crossbow!

Back to Crreden, Jenn and Zephra

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

"Thanks, Ortensia!"

Creeden keeps his eyes on the sky, ready to bat away any crossbow bolts. Move action to use martial flexibility to gain Deflect Arrows. He then steps into a flank with Jenn and attacks the remaining trollhound.

Unarmed Strike (defensive, flank, inspired): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 for Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

AC 27, Deflect Arrows (1 minute)

Human Female UC Rogue 6 Init +4 | HP 42/42 | AC 20 T 16 FF 15 | F4 R9 W3 | CMB 8 (10/dirty trick) CMD 22 (24/dirty trick) | Perc. +10 | Spd. 30 | SA +3d8/3d4

It sounds like Creeden just smashed it into a pulp, but just in case...

Jenn slides in from the trollhound's blind-side, blade flashing as she rams it home.

Zacharias, inspired, flanking: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
dmg: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
SA: 3d8 ⇒ (2, 8, 7) = 17

With Creeden and Jenn's blows the final trollhound falls.

Zephra, what do you want to do?

F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Zephra will charge behind the flaming sphere, trying to get to the enemies with the crossbow!

Timona and Ortensia what are you doing?

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Ortensia made sure to keep in range as she directed the rolling orb of flame. Any hostiles intent on Sister Zephra were bowled over and burned.

3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2) = 13

She eyed the tower. How tall is the tower? Any openings?

The tower is about 50 feet up, open at all sides at this height to allow a lookout to look in every direction.

Female Catfolk Bard (Song Healer) 5 HP 53/53 | AC15 Tch12 FF14 | CMD15/FF14 | F+3 R+6 W+5 (+2 vs fear) | Init+1 | Perc+11Lowlight Vision

Timona lets her performance linger as she she follows along staying close to Sister Zephra. "Well, everyone know's we are here." She smiles.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 to look for entrances and avoid being ambushed if possible.

The troll in the tower fires his crossbow again at Creeden and then moves out of sight

heavy crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

damage: 2d8 ⇒ (2, 8) = 10

At the same point the gatehouse door opens revealing 2 Trolls. In one corner are 3 Goblins too.

Timona, there are no other entrances I'm afraid

Back to block 1

Male LN Halfling Brawler 5/Sentinel of Irori 6 | HP 98/98 | AC 23 (33 when fighting defensively) T 16 FF 18 | CMB +14, CMD 29 | F: +11, R: +11, W: +6 (+8 vs fear) +2 vs divine | Init: +7 | Perc: +17, SM: +5 | Speed 30ft | Martial Flexibility 5/5 | Knockout 1/1 (DC 17); True Strike 3/3 Inevitable Fist 11/11| Active conditions: None.

Ducking under the crossbow quarrel, Creeden advances on the troll that just appeared, getting between the creature and Timona.

Unarmed Strike (defensive, inspired): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28 for bludeoning, magic: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

AC 27, Deflect Arrows (1 minute)

Creeden, you deal the troll a blow, it growls at you menacingly.

Jenn and Zephra, what are you doing?

F N Tiefling Cleric 3 // Fighter 3 | HP 31/31 | AC 20 T 15 FF 15 | CMB +3 CMD 18 | F +5 R +5** W +7 | Init +4 Per +6 (darkvision) SM +4 | channel 4/4 stamina 5/5 TtSW 7/7 | spells 1st 3+1/3+1 2nd 2+1/2+1 | effects/conditions deathwatch 20m

Zephra steps in next to Creeden, slicing at the troll. She casts a spell on herself swiftly (divine favor).

Dagger attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
Slashing damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Zephra, you hit the troll and it roars with pain

Female Half-ork (Black orc) Occultist/11

Be prepared to make way, comrades!Ortensia called as she drew closer with her orb, keeping it moving so it doesn't burn through the bridge. It left a singed trail that smoked.
