Well, since so many people seem interested, let's do it! Please feel free to send me your characters via email. As Auke has already posted above, one of the ways of playing this as a PFS mod is to create an 8th-level version of any existing PFS character. Here are the other two options:

  • A player may use an existing Pathfinder Society character within 1 level of the module’s beginning level (8th). This means existing PCs of 7th, 8th, and 9th level are legal for play without modification.
  • Additionally, players may use any of the 7th-level pregenerated characters available for download at paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/pregeneratedCharacters
.

So that none of you feel like you are "cheating", let me repost some additional rules re: this mod that would apply to you.

Conditions, Death, and Expendables:
Whether playing one’s own PC or a pregen, no conditions (including death) carry beyond the end of a module. Likewise, any wealth spent or resources expended during the course of the adventure are considered unspent upon
the module’s completion.

Getting Credit:
All players who play the entire module receive the attached Chronicle sheet. If a player uses an existing, legal Pathfinder Society character for the adventure, he must apply the Chronicle sheet to that PC. A player who plays a pregenerated character may apply the credit to any existing Pathfinder Society character. The decision of which character
to apply credit to must be made when the Chronicle sheet is received and signed by the GM.
Playing a module from beginning to end earns a player 3 XP and 4 PA. There are no day job rolls when playing a Pathfinder-Society-sanctioned module. If a character dies during the module, the player may make a new legal PC and the GM will integrate the new character as soon as possible. However, the player earns 1 fewer XP and PA each time a character dies, with a minimum of 1 XP and 1 PA earned for the entire module. In addition, each time a player’s PC dies, the player receives 1/3 less wealth than normal.
Players who do not complete each game session earn 1 fewer XP and PA for each session missed. This also applies to players who join later sessions; they receive 1 fewer XP and PA for each session missed. In both cases players earn a minimum of 1 XP and 1 PA. Each Chronicle sheet contains wealth scaled for levels 1 to 11, and a player may only earn gp for the tier in which his character falls. The actual level range of the module is not considered in this calculation. When a PC’s level falls between two tiers, the player always rounds down, receiving wealth for the lower tier. A player earns wealth for the PC based on its level before applying the XP earned for playing the module.
Example: Hyrum is playing through Cult of the Ebon Destroyers using his character Karnam, a fighter. During the encounter with the cultists in Niswan, Karnam is killed. Hyrum then makes Joktan the ranger, who is introduced into the module a short while later. Joktan survives the rest of the module, but on his Chronicle sheet only receives 2 XP, 3 PA, and 2/3 of the wealth appropriate for his level. Hyrum decides to apply that
Chronicle sheet to Karnam, so Karnam receives 2/3 of the wealth appropriate for his current level, as well as 2 XP and 3 PA.

Are any of the participants in "Delirium's Tangle" not interested?

Maybe you could send everyone (or at least the ones that haven't answered) an invite by mail. They might not regularly check this thread now the adventure is over...

Good idea, I'll do that tomorrow. I was just keeping it on this thread, so that we don't get a whole lot of people that want to join us. I'd rather just play with the same group :)

Liberty's Edge

Definitely, I'm in. I'll develop a 8 lvl Takuma and send it to you this evening (Spanish time).

So, If Takuma 8º level dies in the module, my PFS Takuma 1º level don't die really and can earn the xp, ap and gold rewards (with the penalty for the dead, obviously), right?

Am just working Farouq up to level 8. My question is: is Darkwood fullplate legal in PFS? The wording in the equipment is a bit iffy IMHO.

Darkwood fullplate isn't possible as you can only make items from darkwood that are normally make of wood.

Ironwood fullplate or dragonscale fullplate are both legal.

M almost human

Do you know where ironwood is listed for the price?
Thanks.

Oops, ironwood is only temporary...

M almost human

Doesn't matter, dragonhide fullplate it is then. Will see how he works out then. And esp. with a nice dire tiger as animal companion.

Scarab Sages

Quick note to everyone who has not submitted a character yet: please include an itemized shopping list of your equipment. That will save me from having to do all the math myself when I double-check the PCs. Many thanks.

Almost finished! But they made a change to a feat so I have to rebuild/re-equip a bit. I'll send it tomorrow!

M almost human

Will send you an updated character, animal companion and shopping list today, Cheers, Pete

I'm in.

Since this 8th level and a module (which are known for being a bit tougher) it might be worthwhile to make sure we have our bases covered.

Is Aquila cool with playing full-time healer or should someone else bring one?

The Exchange

I dont believe that i want to lock in a pc for that long, so no offense, but I am out. Have fun and good luck guys.

Daxter, when playing PFS-sanctioned modules (as opposed to scenarios), you don't have to take the character "out of circulation". You simply play the mod with any character you like and can then apply to GP, PA, and XP it to any PFS character.

The Exchange

Oh really? Well, give me some time to figure out what i want to play then.

I'm going to be playing a different character.

Branding, I sent my new character sheet.

Farouq is also a druid (although a totally different build), so if everyone brings along a wand of cure light wounds we should be covered.

in this thread there are some things that might properly prepare everyone:

http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderS ociety/general/painlordsWhatToExpectAtAPFSTable&page=1&source=searc h#0

I would like at least one character with a lot of knowledge skills at the table (it's not me I'm afraid...) anyone else interested?

So we've currently got:

Aquila, EagleShaman8 with Garra.
Farouq, Fighter1Druid7(?) with a big cat(?)
Takuma, Samurai8 with ?
Montesquieu,
Maybe Daxter,
Not Markus, but ...

The Exchange

Don't worry about the knowledge skills. The party wizard has them covered.
The sheet has been sent along with my massive spell book. That was the biggest pain to write up.

So Daxter is in? Hurray!

And he's a party wizard! Does he do balloon animals? ;-)

(edited, fixed typo)

The Exchange

Its Daxter, and no he does not do balloon animals.

Liberty's Edge

Mm... the healing thing... I haven't purchased any healing goods. Good point, Auke.

Yep, Farouq is a barbarian 1/druid 7, thought about lion shaman, but I like the versatility of the normal druid. And yes, with a lion. He's got decent AC (dragonhide breastplate - AC 21) the lion wears chain (AC 24). He has a wand of cure light and 2 potions of invisibility. To help for will saves - a clear spindle ioun stone in a wayfinder. No silver weapon, but his hand axe is cold iron (alright with this Branding?).
Any other suggestions what to buy?

I don't know if you did, but I think it's very good to go for Animal, Fur or Feather Domain and combine that with Boon Companion:

You get extra domain spells, a domain ability and a very good animal companion for the cost of one feat.

Als I think the animal shaman is better than a normal druid. You mostly gain abilities and you don't lose that many abilities (Worse shapeshifting in other than your chosen animal, but better in chosen form) and no thousand faces... And it's thematically cool!

(Formerly Markus)

Default druid is fine. Stick with that. Animal shaman is fairly prohibitive in a lot of ways.

For anyone that's curious Ursus (the character I'm bringing) is a grappler.

Montesquieu is a 1 Fighter/7 Bard (very limited healing capabity) I'm putting the finishing touches on the character sheet now (should have emailed later today).

Takuma has purchased various potions.

A question:
When a GM begins a new PFS game, he needs his players to send all his/her chronicle sheets, only the last one or none of them?

Scarab Sages

Okay, here's what I have gotten so far:
Aquila, Druid (Eagle Shaman) 8 with Garra
Farouq, Barbarian (brutal pugilist) 1, Druid 7 with large lion
Takuma, Samurai 8
Daxter, Enchanter 8
Ursus the Breaker, Barbarian (brutal pugilist) 2, Ranger (guide, shapeshifter) 6

Also Montesquieu will be a:
Fighter 1/Bard 7

I'll go over all of these with a fine-toothed comb over the next few days, and get back to you via email if I find anything.

I will be out of town starting next Thursday (3/17) and won't be back until Saturday (3/26), so we can either start this next week and then take a week break, or we can start this the weekend of the 26th. Do any of you have a preference?

Ravenath wrote:

Depends on how trusting you want to be, Ravenath :)

When I run games in person, I generally don't look at every chronicle sheet to make sure they haven't cheated, unless something obviously stands out, or they are using a feat/spell/item/etc from a non-standard source. That's purely for time reasons, and the fact that I have GM'd most of the scenarios those people have played.

If you're running a low-level scenario online, however, it's not that big of a deal for people to send their chronicle sheets, because in all likelihood, they haven't acquired all that many.

Sorry I can't give you a clearer answer.

Scarab Sages

I also wanted to state that since we'll be running a PFS-sanctioned module and not a scenario, I am going to allow myself to be a bit more flexible in terms of interpreting the adventure.

Just as background, when I run a PFS scenario I do not modify stats or abilities, but run the adventure exactly as written. If I am dealing with newbies or people inexperienced with Pathfinder, I generally try to go easy on them and not play the combat encounters as ruthlessly as I could, but the stats do not change. Conversely, if I am running a scenario with 6 PCs who know what they are doing, I play their opponents as cleverly as I can (unless they are of low itelligence) and do not pull punches. I do this because we are in an organized play environment, and theoretically at least, everyone who plays the scenario should have the same challenges (although that's rarely true in practice).

Since this is not a standard scenario, however, I will be taking more liberties with the storyline and characters, although it's doubtful I will be changing the stats or adding opponents. This will be done in an effort to make the scenario more interesting and challenging and to adopt it to the particular necessities of the PbP format. Specifically, I will try to play up any RPing encounter a lot more, and try to get through combat as quickly as possible. Combat is where PbP really bogs down, and I will try my best to keep it going. On the other hand, RP is where PbP really shines, because you can consider and carefully craft your character's responses, more so even than when you are sitting around a table with others.

"Cult of the Ebon Destroyers" is written more casually than a PFS scenario, and there are plenty of places where nothing is spelled out. I'll be interpreting these as I see fit, in an effort to give all of us a better experience.

Just thought I'd let you know ahead of time.

I'd rather start sooner rather than later.

I'm looking forward to this!

OK, well that answers that question. I will try to get this going ASAP.

Really looking forward to this, so whenever it fits your schedule.

I hadn't actually read the module when I suggested it, so that's what I am doing now. I like to be very familiar with an adventure before I run it. I also need to create some encounters that are mentioned (but not spelled out) in the mod. Once I feel like I have a good handle on the adventure, I'll let y'all know.
