I dipped into the website a bit at lunch, and it seems to be very well-structured. While not having much time to poke around, I did see the bit of adjustments to skills and some listings for items. Along these lines, I'm assuming there are no traits/favored class bonuses - with which I'm completely okay, but just want to confirm.

Unless firearms are standard issue for nearly all people, Williams won't be carrying one, nor will she be wielding knives or batons, much to Jack's disappointment (I clicked on the link but quickly clicked off once I saw deviantart. Perhaps when I'm not at work!). I must look into the other items, but she may be well under her weight limit.

Michelle Williams wrote:

Um, sorry about that. It's 05:30 hrs here and I haven't been able to sleep, so I didn't think it through. It didn't even occur to me that the 'deviantart' url would be a problem. The image itself doesn't warrant a NSFW label, but only just. Mind you, if my supervisor saw it, she'd probably laugh and make a comment similar to twilsemail's.

twilsemail wrote:

No argument from me. If one of the undergrads came into my lab dressed like that, I'd send her away... eventually...

Perhaps this is more what you have in mind when talking about PPE? (Very SFW, I promise!)

I did a google search for "tyvek" to link what I was thinking when I said PPE (the bunny suits we use at work) and the second line had a NSFW image. I'm impressed. I'd never really thought of my female coworkers in one of those with nothing else... of course someone on the internet has.

Is there a internet rule for "no matter what, your google image search with have something NSFW in it?" Somekind of extension of 34? I guess, really, that is rule 34.

Since we're posting images (for some bizarre reason), here is Dr. Chronis's Bible of Developing Medical Technologies.

Heh, sign me up for some tissue regeneration or hybrid assisted limbs... if only. :p

lol! Is that you in the picture Bolter?

Thank you very much for sharing this!

Micaiah Aden wrote:

lol, no. I was just trying to find an example of extreme PPE. I was in the RAE, not the RAOC.

"For these and other acronyms meaningless to anyone who has a real life, please see your local defense force recruitment officer today!"

Long term tissue regeneration I'm sure is available given stem-cell and heart-cell treatments. As for assisted limbs, that might be a little advanced right now, but probably something we can research given enough time and resources.

Have you already made your final choices, VoS? Updated my profile with the crunch, but if I'm too late, then good luck to the rest of you!

Talk about being out of the loop Wynn. Voice said you are in already!

LOL OK I must have missed that post. I'll head over to the discussion thread then :)

Glad you're here Yogh.

We've gone a bit since you posted so you'll want to check out the Gazetteer site to make sure everything is shishape.

It seems I need a login, so would you PM me the details?

I hadn't made one for you, so feel free to make one. If it's personal email you don't wish to make, use a temporary email creator.

OK, just made a login :)

Seems like way too late for me to join in now. Would have been fun. But i suppose that is what you get when your internet supplyer goes down for a couple of days.

Could you send a message or something when there's more room? I could be a trainee, just as i would be in meta.

If you still want to play, its possible one of the other emergency pods was barely functional... :) The GM might be able to say.

Or we could retro the whole thing :P

I still want to play, though as i am not a strong leader, being in the second batch and/or under someone elses command would be best for me.
I have i fully functional backgroud for my character, just need to put stats on it.

How do you do those thing that hide content? i want to post my stuff here without filling a Whole page myself :)

God damn it, dubble post!

With 8 currently active players I'm going to have to wait for when the players begin recruiting subordinates in the later game. I don't know when this will be however. I do suggest you keep an eye on the gameplay as it will give you a taste of how everything is going.

Well, keep an eye open for our recruitments. We know the stasis pods are out there!

i'd be interested in getting in on this as well. i am thinking an astrobotanist/astrozoologist. (think druid of sorts in dnd terms, but would be researching plants and their behaviors.)

For character creation, i have some questions(I know there is a long time untill you Guys start recruiting again, i just want it to be ready for when it happens):

  • What is a strong save?
  • How many ranks do we get in the skills we purchase with points?
  • How many ranks do we get in the skills we automaticly have?
  • Can you use a skill you have no ranks in?
  • Can you use a skill you haven't been given by class or bought by points?

  • Can you use a skill you have no ranks in?
  • Can you use a skill you haven't been given by class or bought by points?
  • At first level a +2 save is standard in the 'strong' save for your class, for example; Jack has a strong Reflex save at +5 (+3 for Dex bonus, +2 for class), but a very weak Will save at +0 (No Wis or class bonus).
  • With Pathfinder 1 skill point = 1 rank, period. However if you assign a rank to a class skill, you automatically get a +3 bonus. If you assign a rank to a non-class skill, you do NOT get the +3 bonus.
  • Your maximum ranks in a skill is limited by your total character level, so at first level you can only have 1 rank in any skill.
  • You don't get any automatic ranks in class skills, you have to assign a skill point to them.
  • Some skills can be used untrained, others can't. Typically craft, knowledge and profession skill all require ranks in them before you can use them. Also skills such as Use Magic Device (or in our case Use Alien Tech), Disable Device and Linguistics typically require ranks in them before they can be used.

(Someone else may want to chip in here; I'm not the greatest with all the rules. Correct me if I've got it wrong, please!).

  • Since two hours ago, i've jumped over to here and here which makes it all very clear.

The points "Voice in the system" uses seems to be working a bit differently.

About the strong save. So basically, i get a +2 to thing marked as strong?

The 'strong save' refers to where you get the +2 bonus from your class:

  • If you are Military, you get +2 to your Fortitude save
  • If Professional, +2 to Reflex save
  • If Scientist, +2 to Will save

I'm just your friendly neighborhood insomniac... :)

Thanks again Jack for the quick replies. If you have any more questions luca0483, you can post below or PM me.

I have posted two questions over at beholdthegalaxy.forumotion.com, under the FAQ-thread.

I'll ask them Again here, along with some more that has come up in the meantime.

    • Is admin over there the same person as Voice in the system here?
    • What is the base attack bonus for the three different classes?
    • How the hell has allen hayes gained the dogde talent already? i can't find it anywhere in the tweaked char-creation posted.
    • What is the "senses" part of the character sheet?
    • Does the second batch of recruits get any starting gear? I can't imagine them having it with them in their cryo pods.
    • Can i be the one in the cryo-pod 20 miles off of the landingsite of the escape-pod? #lol

That's all. As you probably can see from my numerous posts, i am very stoked even though i'm not in yet. The collaboration level here is just so high, and everyone seems to be great storytellers.

When the question about base attack bonus has been answered, i will post my character info here for Voice to look through (like seeing if my ability modifiers match up with my Perception bonus and stuff like that).

Hello luca! I can answer a few of the questions:

    1) Admin = voice
    2) Military = fighter, Professional = rogue, Scientist = wizard
    3) You can take any feat from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook and D20ModernPath as talents. Run it buy Voice first as some can be quite useless in this game.

4-6) Idk, wait for voice to answer these.

    Goodluck in the selection process!

How many feats can we chose at level one?

The 'sense' part of the character stat block is really only for characters with extraordinary sensory abilities, such as low-light or dark vision, scent, tremor sense, etc... I'm pretty sure that none of the characters in this campaign should have such abilities, but that's Voice's call. Maybe such senses will be available later, with cybernetics or other augmentations?

    luca0483 wrote:

In addition to whatever feats/talents you get from your chosen class, you get one feat at first level, plus a Skill bonus feat for being a Terra Priman, as per Voice's character creation guidelines.

Thanks Again everyone for answering my questions.

And thank you Aden, for the luck!

As promised here is my character (i'm making alias if i get picked):

And here is my background(and explanation to why he has a number instead of a name)
    background:
He is kind of like if Jim Raynor fused with Rory Swann.
    Role: Military mechanic.

He doesn't know much about his life before his rebirth. He know that his mother was a judge and his father a colonel. He know that his names was Lucas Runecarver, and that went against his parents hopes that he would follow in one of their footsteps, that he was a astonishing mechanic. And he knows the reason for his memory swipe, his "rebirth": He was a rogue trader.

What he doesn't know is that through their influental positions, his parents had changed his sentence changed from prison to memory erasage because they wanted him to go in his fathers footsteps. Though, either something in the swipe went wrong or Lucas had tried to withstand it very hard, because the new him still had a some memories left in his skull, which would later (when he was mentally old enough to understand them) spark his hunger for practional knowledge once agian.

Immediatly after his swipe, with a soul like a new-born child but with knowledge of a master mechanic, he was sent to the militia where he was re-raised. He kept his memories a secret however, knowing he would be swiped Again if it was let out. He was never given a name by the military, only a orphan-number, though he would later be given the callsign "Chris" by his squad. Because of the knowledge he retained from the memories, his mental Growth back to normal stage were rapid, after only three years he was able to pass military Academy and go into the main body of the militia. His new personality is completely different from his old; Where previously he was a dark-mooded, straight-forward and focussed person that always was looking for holes in the system, he now is smiling and very lawful guy, although a bit child-like, spontanious and autistic, probably due to his limited rememberable experience he has had. His briliant mind, upholding of rules and loyalty made him favoured amongst supperios granting tons of recomendations. The only thing retaining him from going past sergeant rank was his occational slightly autistic notions and his limited leading-abilities.

Due to legal protocols and stuff, the new him was to be treated as another person, effectively taking the rogue trader charge away from his records. This combined with his time in the military, his towering stack of recomendations and his ability to repair almost anything made him an obvious choise to put on CSS Avalon.

He is a gunner first and foremost, as he has been in the military "his Whole life", but if anything needs fixing, Building, tuning or if somebody needs his help, his encyclopaedic-like knowledge is ready.

We have to build an entire colony up from nothing, there will be need of a guy that can both shoot and built.

are we making characters now for people to find in pods? or is the game closed to new characters? i am kind of confused.

To answer your question Tenro, feel free to join in and make a character. What will happen is that after the pods are rescued and the characters develop as leaders, they'll be able to recruit on their own team of operatives. I won't be putting up the rules for how that will be performed quite yet but it will be on a different Recruitment post.

However, it WILL be up to my players who they pick so having a character ready made and being familiar with both the Gazetteer site and the campaign is probably a big plus.

Also, it can't hurt already making friends with the Player you'd like to work with... you never know.

alrighty thanks for the answers. i will put together a character in the coming days

Here comes the autistic noob with another round of questions, requests and unexplained things!
I really hope I don’t bother you all with these.

    • Should i start posting these in discussion/cantina instead?
    • Has Allen forgotten about the cryo-pod beacon 20 miles off? Ever since he discovered it, he hasn’t said anything about it to anybody!
    • where the heck did we aquire those four new tech things?
    • Is the two firing methods for a shotgun ammunition-specific or can you use both with a single type of ammo?
    • I was searching through modern path’s weapon list and in the middle of it found a m97 with terribly overpowered and over-costed ammunition (6d6 damage per thing in the blast? i could clear a whole room with only one shot! And $650 per grenade? That's over two times the cost IRL! The radius and method of firing is nice though).
Would a player be able to use such a weapon if schematics were found/made, would it need tweaking or would it be denied?
    • If “yes” or “tweaking” to the last question, could you (Voice) make M576 ammo stats for it (link)? It’s basicly 1-gauge buckshot ammo made to be fired from grenade launchers
    • what about the other explosive and weapon stats? Could they be used? Seems just as overpowered compared to what you have listed as weapons
    • what does your “piloting” skill cover? Modern path has the three professions: pilot, sailor and driver, and it is pretty obvious what each of those skills cover.
    • What can you do without having “piloting”? (Can you fly helicopters and moon-rockets? Can you drive bikes? Can you drive tanks?)
    • Why does your Valseron shotgun do almost the same damage as a knife? Is it a tiny 28-gauge or something? Same goes for the rest of the gazetteer listed guns and missiles. Just asking.
    • pathfinder has this feat called rapid reload which halves the reload-time of a specific type of crossbow. Could this be modified to just halve reload time on whatever gun you are using (or, alternatively, on a specific gun)?

i would appreciate if Voice answered these.

    @luca0483:

    - You may post in Recruitment.
    - Can't answer for that one.
    - A while ago.
    - Read the Firearms section of the d20pfsrd and look for the Scatter quality.
    - You may not use any weapon in the modern path's weapons. Only the weapons shown on the Gazetteer are legal. This answers a few of your questions.
    - Pilot is essentially Drive, Pilot and Sailor.
    - Without Pilot you can sit in the copilot's seat and twiddle your thumbs.
    - Starting weapons are low powered going with the fact that they will usually always hit. Armor tends to suck at close range. More powerful weapons will be researched.
    - I will say yes to Rapid Reload.

Many thanks for the clarification Voice!
