Her Story:

134 ED - Terra Prima - New year's day

Situated amongst the Sahara Savannah and along the North Yatumban coast, the city of New Alexandria gleams like a golden sculpture as the morning sun peeks above the horizon.

"Like the city of the gods..." murmurs an ancient, bearded man as he observes the festivities through the massive glass walls of his sanctum, situated on pinnacle of the central tower high above the city. Yet despite all of their power, the gods fell in the end... He gently stroked the silver strands away from his gleaming white robe, and allowed his thoughts to wander: Perhaps humanity can avoid the gods' mistakes... no, we MUST. A gentle chime emanates from the large cedar desk behind him, interrupting his revere. "Come in." He commands in an authoritative baritone and shifts his gaze into the virgin sun. So it begins...

The gate to his sanctum silently drifts open as a shapely women carrying a data pad crosses the precipice and walks into the room, her golden, waist length hair cascading playfully with each step. She stops a few paces shy of the desk and bows reverently as she speaks: "We are ready for you, Exarch Aden." "Mmm... Thank you Diana." The Exarch smiles as he slowly turns to face her. "Come. Let us not delay this auspicious day." A runed glyph suddenly appears on the floor beneath them as their bodies disintegrates with in the arcane patterns of a magic circuit, leaving only a sense of solemn stillness in the empty sanctum.

The research dome is bustling with activity - many of the principle investigators are in attendance to witness the experiment. The chatter ceases as a familiar column of light appears in the middle of the control platform; from which a pair of figures materialized. "Ahh!" Diana cries out as she looses her footing during the landing and falls into Aden's waiting arms. "F-forgive me Exarch, I-I..." She stutters as she clumsily straightens herself, her cheeks turning a bright shade of pink. "Ha! Still gets them every time do you Maxwell?" A middle aged man banters as he steps onto the platform. "Better be careful around that one lass. The old Magi's got lots more tricks up his sleeve!" Aden grins as he recognizes the voice. "Nicolai Tesla! I should've known!" The two man clasp fore arms and hug each other's shoulder. "Glad you can make it! But I thought you were tied up leading the Trans-Drive project." Maxwell inquires his friend and colleague. "Well we almost have that baby all figured out, so I thought i could spare sometime to see an old friend accomplishes his life's work." Nicolai smiles as he leads Maxwell towards the large glass tube in the center of the dome. "So, have you given her a name yet?" He gestures towards the lithe, feminine form floating in the tank. "Yes, and you will find out soon enough." Maxwell replies as he leads them back to the control platform. "Come my friend. It is time to begin."

"Something's wrong with her oxygen exchange! She is going into cardiac arrest! We have to stop the activation!"

Aden: "No! It is too late for that! Breathe Micaiah! Taste the breath of life!"

"Argh... Haa..." Micaiah's emerald eyes snap open as her lungs fill with air. Her vision is hazy at first, but comes into focus as the smiling face of a long bearded man hovers into view. She tries to move, but found herself strapped to the platform beneath her. "Ah! Sorry about that." Maxwell nods to Diana as she releases the restraints with the press of a button. "You were struggling pretty hard and I did not want you to hurt yourself. Come Micaiah, try to sit up." He looks at her kindly as Diana gently helps her sit up on the platform. "It's soft..." She runs her fingers along its surface and eventually into Diana's hand. "and warm..." "Sensory inputs appear nominal." One of the technicians remarks. "I believe we can proceed to secondary checkups." Maxwell nods as he grasps Micaiah's hands and plants a kiss on each one. "Don't be afraid Micaiah. Now lay down and relax. I know you are tired." Micaiah looks at him quizzically: "How do you know my name mister?" "Hoho!" Maxwell bellows a hearty laugh that startles the girl somewhat. "Because I'm your dad Micaiah!" "Dad..."Satisfied with his answer, Micaiah plops back down onto the platform and was asleep in moments.

"Amazing... She is just like... a human." Nicolai comments to Maxwell as they make their way to the control platform. "She is much more then that my friend." Maxwell replies, "She represents the pinnacle of human ingenuity - the culmination of our entire intellect." "Yes, absolutely. But the Council..." Before Nicolai can finish his thought, Maxwell interjects: "The Council be damned. All they care about is power and petty politics! I will not let them have my daughter!" Nicolai puts his hand on Maxwell's shoulder reassuringly: "I agree. She is a gift to all of humanity. Whatever you decide to do, know that you can count on me to help in whatever ways I can." Maxwell remains silent as he returns his friend's gesture of confidence.

148 ED - Terra Prima - New Alexandria - Winter Solstice

The sky is dark and the winds are howling. Within the Sanctum of Aden, two men and a young girl are sitting beside a fireplace. "Uncle Nicolai, why are we burning things on purpose?" She looks up at the middle aged man inquisitively. "Haha. Back in the 20th century people used fire places to heat their homes. Now only crazy old people like your dad remembers, much less uses, them." Nicolai smiles at Micaiah and turns to his friend and asks: "You sure about this?" The question jolts Maxwell out of his thoughts. He reaches out and gently caresses his daughter's face as he answers: "Micaiah is not a weapon. I want her to be free, to follow her own destiny." "But you could potentially never see each other again!" Nicolai reminded his friend forcefully while Micaiah also grew silent. The three sat there quietly for another long moment. Suddenly Maxwell stands up from his chair and declares: "It is time." As if on cue, the gates to the sanctum slides open silently and a tearful Diana walks into the room. "The arrangements are... complete... Exarch Aden..." She chokes out between sobs. "Well done." Maxwell speaks in a monotone: "Come. We must hurry." He grabs the staff leaning against his chair and murmurs a spell, and they all disappeared as they are engulfed by a magic circuit.

A flash of light briefly illuminates the tall grass as a group of people materializes within a clearing on the outskirts of the city. In front of them parks a state of the art transport shuttle, silently awaiting the opportunity to soar into the cosmos. Without a word, Nicolai grabs Micaiah's luggage and boards the shuttle. The girl hesitates, however, and turns and hugs Diana. "I don't want to go! I want to stay with you and dad!" With tears streaming down her face, Diana kisses her on the forehead and smiles: "Shh... You are a big girl now Micaiah. A big girl do what she must. Now go on and say good bye to your father." Micaiah obeys her words and walks over and hugs her dad. "I'll miss you dad..." Maxwell returns her hug and says gently: "Me too, my daughter, me too. No matter what happens Micaiah, always remember that you are the Child of Aden; of this Terra. Wherever you are amongst the stars, you will always be in our hearts. Now farewell, Micaiah!" He pushes her away gently and steps back, leaving a somewhat stunned Micaiah standing alone. Suddenly she bursts into tears and shouts: "Goodbye dad! Goodbye Diana! I love you!" as she dashes into the awaiting shuttle and takes the co-pilot's seat. "You ready?" Nicolai asks as he finishes the pre-flight checklist. "Mmm..." The girl nods quietly as she gazes out the window and waves her final farewell to her parents. "Alright, here we go." Nicolai pulls gently on the controls as the shuttle effortlessly leaves the ground and ascends towards the heavens.

Just as they had planned, Nicolai secured a spot for Micaiah as a mechanic on board the CSS Avalon, which will take her to Nova Ark - light years away from Earth and out of the reach of its ruling Council. As he watches the girl being introduced to cryogenic sleep, he can't help but feel that this is the start of an epic journey. The Child of Aden shall ride the Ark through the heavens...
