Grimm Sharpest |
Grimm goes to see Andrea's 'friend' for some playtime.
Sorry guys not with it at the moment. Job hunting and trying to keep the family upbeat
Orsino 'Orsin' Bessatte |
En route to the lawyer, Orsin makes a reluctant confession to Andrea.
He clears his throat a little before continuing, "I've grown weary of the stage, of being a spectacle for the amusement of others with only pretend victories and adventures to my credit. When we came across the Librum Malfactum, I foolishly gambled my life away for the thrill of power and to slake my dark curiosities."
He pauses for a moment.
"I lost that gamble and the tome's dark magic robbed me of sight, speech, and sound. I was moments away from taking my own life when I was visited by an infernal agent: an emissary of the devil Geryon. In exchange for my soul, my senses were restored and I retained the knowledge of the Librum's dark powers. Furthermore, some day in the future, before he comes to claim my soul, the devil may also ask of me a single task which I am oathbound to complete."
The bard chuckles a little manically, "I thought I would take this to my grave, but when I lost my hearing in Delvehaven, I was reminded of my foolish bargain and what it was that I damned myself for. I'm not sure if I got the better half, but I did what I had to do to keep up the fight for Westcrown. My best friend died on the stage for the pleasure of some sick noble. His death was meaningless and I didn't want to follow him to that same end."
He pauses before finishing.
"I'm sorry."
Andrea1 |
If I had come upon your body when we started wondering what had happened to you, I would have yelled at you that you an idiot and fool. Perhaps give your body a swift kick as well. However, I most certainly am not one to preach about proper behavior.
One thing you may have noticed, is that we have introduced ourselves to each other by our full names but I have only said 'Andrea', that is because I have no last name since my mother had no last name because it was seen as not not necessary, because she was a Bloodmother, a woman in service to the goddess Urgathoa to bear children for either induction into the faith or for sacrifice.
Andrea draws in a breath and then exhales as she continues..
Before you met us, I was a minor priestess of Urgathoa, I engaged in glutteny, drugs, unbridled sex and even once beat a man to death with my fists in sacrifice. When I met the Children of Westcrown, my eyes fell upon Fiosa and I lusted after her, even better was that she returned my interest and one night I went to her room and we had sex.
However, she was an adept of Pharasma, perhaps that goddess set her in my path as part of her divine vision. Urgathoa was angry to say the least and made me cry and crawl in the sewers before pointing me to Calistria, since they are faiths not hostile towards each other. So the next dawn I took the oaths to The Savored Sting.
Andrea wipes her face with a small cloth since she has been sweating slightly.
I believe it is only fair that let you know exactly who I am since you have confessed to me of what you have done. I..I am hurt and angry that this has happened, but also relieved that you are still with us. You are a friend, and perhaps someone I could love, if not as a lover then kin.
Andrea places her hand on yours.
I'm glad you are still fighting for what you believe in, and I'll help however I can to help you keep fighting. Andrea makes a gesture and whisper a prayer.
Orsino 'Orsin' Bessatte |
The bard nods grimly as Andrea tells her tale. Horrified at what she has done, but relieved to discover that he isn't alone in having made the wrong choices.
He gives her hand an affectionate squeeze, seeing her, perhaps truly for the first time now, as the sister he never had. Maybe even one to replace the sibling he had lost...?
As the arrive at the office, he gives a tiny sigh.
"Showtime," he resigns plainly.
Orsin will put his hand into his handy haversack, making the silent gestures of the glibness spell within before entering with Andrea.
He unfastens one of the top buttons of his doublet, showing a bit of he-vage, if the situation calls for it.
Upon meeting the receptionist, he leans forward, smiling, "Hello, we're here to see Messer Noguil. We haven't an appointment, but he has been giving counsel to my associate and I, and I'm sure he'd be delighted to see us and hear of the developments in our case."
Bluff, if necessary: 1d20 + 16 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 16 + 20 = 38
Orsino 'Orsin' Bessatte |
Oops, that's right, the one who's like, possibly a devil or somesuch, I remember now. Goes to show how sexist I must be, forgetting that the lawyer's a woman. ;P
"Apologies, I'm just so concerned with the finer points of our case that I have forgotten myself."
As Andrea clarifies the situation, Orsin returns the wink, giving the receptionist a lopsided smirk.
And back to the charade we go... he mentally groans.
Andrea1 |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Andrea looks at the woman's actions and then flicks her eyes over to Orsin. Why yes, that would be delightful. Andrea has a light grin on her face.
As the drinks are gotten, Andrea lightly squeezes Orsin's arm. The benefits of fame.
Luci Fer Noguilt, NPC |
The receptionist, Evenor Justice, carries out a small try of drinks. A few minutes later, Luci fer NoGruilt, appears is in the doorway, "An unexpected visit but never-the-less a paying client is welcomed. In fact, there is news about your legal concerns."She motions for the two to follow.
Stepping in her spacious office you can again see the two statutes flanking the room. Her view is breathtaking. "Sit...sit...can I get you another smoky firewater. Seems like one is never quite enough."
Lucrezia Villanova |
"Uhm, good morning sir. Glad to see you in such a good mood. Do you happen to have spellbooks for someone just starting to learn magic?"
Truk'tosh |
Truk greets Talbard with a grunt as he enters the magic shop with Lucrezia and Faelyn. He looked around for a bit before remembering the wayfinder now tucked carefully under his armor. The big orc fishes it out and shows it to the old wizard.
”Orsin said you could keep magic stones in these to make them better. Do you have any of those magic stones?”
Truk doesn’t have any money but I’m looking for a Dusty Rose for the future.
Talbard the Grey |
The wizard whacks the counter again when the big half-orc speaks, he is clearly entertained by something else right now. His other hand motioning towards the wayfinder and his head nodding. "G...goblin spawn she s...says." now pointing to himself, "d..d...do, I llllook like goblin spawn.?" His spectacles fog up.
Lucrezia Villanova |
"Not really. I would imagine you would be a lot greener and smaller if you were. Though I don't exactly have much experience with goblin spawn."
Talbard the Grey |
Talbard finally gets a hold of his laughter, taking a deep breath "yes, how pure would you like the stone Truk? No blemishes, crackled, flawed? I get any dusty rose in short order."
Turning his attention to Lucrezia, "how can help the delightful Ms. Villanova today? smiling ear to ear. If I was only 40 years younger. He heaves.
Lucrezia Villanova |
"Well, I've developed an interest in learning a bit of the arcane arts. Faelyn here has agreed to help me out a bit and told me that the first thing I needed to get was a spellbook. Do you have anything like that for an eager new student?"
Truk'tosh |
"Uh, pure is good, right? I'd want the best one possible", Truk explains.
"There's no rush - I don't got any coin right now. Maybe after my brother's free..."
Talbard the Grey |
"You care to dabble in the arcane magic...woke up witht he itch did ya?" He huffs a bit, "Faelyn himself could be a respectable caster IF he only applied himself.' He shakes his head, "Well, if he did less gambling and more studying he would be fine."
He shuffles off and grabs a spell book with a fine leather cover, three nice quills and half dozen ink vials. He brings them back to you, You may want a traveling spell book too". He suggests.
Add up the total and take a 10% discount.
He then focuses on Truk, "When your pocket is heavy with coin, I'll be able to get you a pure stone.
Truk'tosh |
Truk nods at the old wizard's comment and then watches with surprising interest as Talbard explains the necessities of wizardry.
"You think I could ever learn that stuff?"
Lucrezia Villanova |
resisting urge to ask if the ink comes in pink or purple...
"Oh no. If I woke up with an itch I'd be seeing a cleric and having a long talk with Trouble here. I'm really just tired of dealing with things that I have no understanding of and want to learn how to properly deal with them."
edit:
spellbook = 15 gp
travelling spellbook = 10 gp
3 quills = 3 sp
6 vials of ink = 6 gp
spell component pouch = 5 gp
36 gp and 3 sp
after dicount: 32 gp and 7 sp
Math is my El Guapo, but I think that's close enough.
Added a spell component pouch to my purchase as well.

Luci shrugs at Andrea's question. "There is good and bad news. Orn was release, without a fee, thanks to my efforts. The Rack was quite reasonable - as they tend to be with me - when suggested the Orn was falsely accused. Yes, that is delightful news but..."
..but. Just how bad is the bad news? Is is something that can be dealt with with a 'gratuity' or is it more serious?
Luci Fer Noguilt, NPC |
She steps around and pours that smoky firewhiskey for everyone, "His owner wants 3000 gold plus 500 gold to cover his penalty provision to break the pending sale. You remember I previously mentioned I had heard he was being sold and shipped to gladiator pits." She sips the smooth charcoal liquid, her tongue savoring the aged spirit. "The sale needs to be concluded today."
Andrea1 |
Andrea sighs and decides to enjoy the extra glass of whiskey. Very well, we have the funds with us and can pay immediately.
Andrea takes out a heavy case and shows the neatly stacked coins inside. We can give cash upfront or have this converted at the Westcrown Exchange into the coinage you wish or a voucher.
Luci Fer Noguilt, NPC |
She nods approvingly, "Leaving the funds works well, I will arrange the sale and lets plan on closing the deal tomorrow morning...say 11:00am. Of course, that is assuming there are no hiccups along the way. But the Alphonse Lourdou would be a fool to breach an agreement with me." She smiles, looks over her at her two apparent statues, then picks up her glass, "To a legal resolution."
Orsino 'Orsin' Bessatte |
"To a legal resolution," Orsin replies, echoing the toast.
This woman surely seems to know what she's doing... I wonder if she could help with... No, best not to worry about that now.
Orsin leaves Andrea in charge of handling the pecuniary matters at hand. If there is still time, Orsin will make his farewells to his priestess friend and head to Grumm's to cancel his order, on account of Ermolos' untimely slaying.
Andrea1 |
Andrea toasts as well. To a legal resolution. After draining her glass, Andrea transfers the funds to the lawyer and settles accounts.(Always make sure to get a receipt!) and then takes her leave of the offices.
After they leave, Andrea listens to what Orsin wants to do. Of course, please take your time. I will drop the remainder of the money we collected to pay the fees off at the safehouse and will do some shopping. Take care. Andrea squeezes Orsin's arm and parts ways for now.
***
Andrea will stop by the safehouse to drop off Truk's share of the remaining money and then go to The Exchange for some work. After lunch with Fiosa, Andrea goes shopping (Avoiding Talbard's for a while.)

She takes the funds, writes a receipt and offers another parting drink to the couple. She pauses biting her plentiful bottom lip, "I heard a rumor that a small, innovative group found their way into and out of the old Pathfinder Lodge," her thumb and forefinger on her chin, as she lets the comment linger.
Truk'tosh |
Truk frowns as Tabard ignores his question and goes back to poking likely expensive and fragile magical ingredients.
Lucrezia Villanova |
"No betting spellbooks in card games. Check. Any other words of advice for a naive young novice?"
Andrea1 |

I believe I heard a rumor of that as well. Such a group would have to be very daring to brave the wards that Thrune set upon it. No doubt with a healthy dash of foolishness tossed in, let us hope they got out with their skins intact and a little wiser about poking around in abandoned buildings.
