Nice! Where are you going this time?

BTW, I have a sick baby. Nothing like Pat's trouble - she's just got a fever and cries all the time. Still, I'll be less available than usual for the next few days.

Guys, very sorry for my recent absence - I've been busy at work and busy doing stuff that needed to be done before we go on holiday in the evening. I'm on holiday today and won't be around until about Saurday next week.

Vatters, hopefully your little one is feeling better. We are off to Aberaeron, in west Wales.

Hope you get a chance to unwind. Between work and maniacs on trains it sounds like you could use a good stretch of time to relax. Enjoy.

By the way, for those that are interested, this is the real Pontrilas. My parents live in the neigbouring village, Ewyas Harold (which is linked in the article for the completists out there).

Very cool, thanks for sharing.

It's interesting to look at places that have a long history. Out here, it's a rare town that's 150 years old. I talked to a 'kid' from eastern Poland when he did some consulting for us -- interesting to compare his large, several-centuries-old home city with my tiny, 120-year-old home.

Hey, Aub;.....
I'm loving these google doc spreadsheet maps! What a groovy idea!!!

My real-life team use it to track when we are available to play, and latterly added treasure allocation so I could keep track. And then the Kingmaker campaign made me want to have a map we could all see, and Fatey mentioned that he maps things out in Excel, and a little light went on in my head. I'm pleased they've worked out well - I've never really got on with mapping programmes. And best - it's free!

Hmmm ... I think we may be in trouble here.

It's very much looking like it might be up to Janosz and Gil (assuming she hasn't got herself into trouble) to save the day ...

I think next time we should stick to LB's straightforward tactic of sticking together and beating the crap out of anything that attacks us!

It's so easy and lowtech, man. I love it.

I think it makes things a lot easier, and though I can't quite get the detail I'd like 100%, it's still really sweet.

Their haste is killing us. I'd strip it, but dispel magic doesn't do area dispelling any more. Need Greater Dispel. Gil could counter it with slow, but is unaware and too far away.

I wanted to drop a wall of force so we could lessen the group we had to deal with, but we are all over the place. Inevitably I would trap someone on the other side. I could still drop it between the barn and facing building on the 59-60 line. That leaves Ezreal, Rolund, Rodergo and Janosz vs 4 crossbow dudes and 1 fighter. It also leaves a nearly dead Runzyl, Lightbringer and Gil vs the wizard, the leader, 5 fighters and 3 crossbow guys. Not exactly win-win.

These guys are giving you a hard time. I guess this is a tough encounter anyway, but (as Rolund pointed out in-game) you have allowed yourselves to be effectively picked off one by one, and let them have their full attacks (Hasted - what a monster spell that is!). So far it's only the hired help, but....

Runzyl intentionally makes really dumb tactical decisions... I appreciate that everyone was so willing to follow him into this deathtrap, though! Runzyl is almost certain to die within the next 1-2 rounds, but that's okay. I was running out of rage anyway and would've spent the rest of the fight fatigued and largely useless.

Grand Lodge

Let's get a health tally over here for tactical decision making...

Ez 10/59
Runzyl 34/110 (confused about to end rage)
Rolund ?/67
Rodergo 20/58
Lightbringer 34/109
Gil 57/57
Janosz 79/79

Bor ?/59 (down)
Basher ?/73 (down)

If we fall back we leave Bor, Basher and Runzyl behind. I could run in and dimension door Bor and Basher out, but Runzyl is a lost cause for Ezreal. Can't see him. Don't know it but even if I d'doored him out he might kill Ezreal post jump due to the confusion.

Yeah, you play the low INT / low WIS combo to the hilt there. But it was very Runzyl.

Rolund is in decent shape - he has a fairly high AC plus Lay on Hands.

Gil didn't get herself into trouble, but she unintentionally removed herself from the festivities only to be left behind by a more mobile foe. She's losing actions trying to get into position.

When she realized what was up, she headed back with the Wand of Lightning Bolt in hand, but a) could not reach the line of enemies she wanted to zap and b) LB stepped into that line, anyway. Hopefully, she's able to get someone's attention with her alternate plan, but there's a limit to how much good that will do, too.

Aubrey:
I was curious and checked the Fly description. It still says "ascend at half speed and descend at double speed", but I didn't know for certain how tall the tower was, so it's probably moot. But I might really want that added mobility later, so I bring it up now.

Note: In my head, the ascent or descent involved would be more than 45 degrees - straight up, half speed, straight down, double, up at 45 degrees, half, up slightly, normal, etc. But it's all your call, so I leave it up to you.

I'll check it again - I had to speed-read it from the internet at work this morning.

Anyway, group, do not feel bad - you fell for the ambush, but we all make mistakes, right?

I think it was the range. Most of us are better at melee than ranged combat. Trying to close the distance brought down Basher from the volleys.

We should have continued heading straight and flanked them somewhere further north.

Another problem was prepping. We should have had our preparations already in place before the first shot. It would have saved us some actions.

Rolund is doing okay. Between the high AC, the bone armor DR, and lay on hands, he’s only down 5 hps. I’m probably going to have to don my shield since with Basher and Bor down it looks like Rolund is about to be surrounded. :(

Splitting up like this has been our weakness before – several times … usually because we are all left in the wake of Runzyl charging in ahead (though I can think of at least one time that it was LB that led the charge into a really difficult position).

Buffing was a problem too; GG suggested it right before everything started, but no one else actually posted anything on the subject until Aubrey called for init. We have been stung before both ways; times when everyone pre-buffed then nothing happened until the spells expired, other times (like this one) where few started the prep spells before it was somewhat too late. We need to get better at that.

And I still can’t believe that we are facing mooks with AC better than virtually anyone in the party!

Sorry for the lack of posting recently - nothing sinister, just a bit busy. Should be back on track tomorrow.

I tend to be pretty conservative as a buffer. Always afraid I'll blow through my resources too early. I even had a round where I did nothing but move because it looked like the fight was well in hand until tons more poured out of hiding.

Gentlemen,

My wife and I have decided to move from Arizona to Norway. I'm leaving in a couple of weeks, and she'll come after (with the baby and the dog) in the fall. Right now we're in packing mode.

SO - I'm going to be rather busy over the next two weeks; then I'll fly home and switch to Aubreytime. So my posting routine is going to be both a bit more restrained than usual, and then change to a different timeslot after that.

Moving update: We're starting to move stuff into storage tomorrow, and will cancel our cable and internet as of Friday. After that I expect to be mostly busy until Thursday, before getting on the plane on Sunday. So I really don't think I'll be around much over the next ten days or so.

Janosz is easy to play - just shoot things and swear a lot. Enjoy!

Oh, and *bump*

This is the right place. Thanks for the interest, but the last time a space came up was about two years ago, and we are not exactly short-handed at the moment. But if a space comes up I will advertise it.

We are officially moving today and I'm not certain if the telephone line has been reconnected yet. It has service, but it may still be a raw wire hanging out of the wall.

Probably won't be around today. After that I'll have my phone if need be.

Glad you liked it. I enjoyed Janosz' rant too - gobbo syphilis indeed!

I'll assume someone drops a Detect Magic. Your haul of shinies is:
- 18 oils of Repair Moderate Wounds (-5 LB/Basher)
- 8 +1 heavy crossbows
- 18 masterwork longswords
- 1 +1 greatsword
- 2 oils of Repair Serious Damage (-1 LB/Basher)
- 2 Rings of Protection +1
- 1 wand of Scorching Ray (CL 3, 19 charges)
- 1 wand of Fireball (CL 5, 9 charges)
- 1 scroll of Black Tentacles (CL 7)
- 1 spellbook

The contents of the spellbook are:
0th: all standard except Evocation and Necromancy
1st: Shield, Detect Undead, Sureshot, Magic Missile, Identify, Sleep, Comprehend Languages, Alarm
2nd: See Invisibility, Web, Invisibility, Locate Object, Detect Thoughts
3rd: Arcane Sight, Haste, Dispel Magic, Displacement, Suggestion
4th: Arcane Eye, Black Tentacles, Lesser Globe of Invulnerability, Confusion, Dimension Door
5th: Telepathic Bond, Feeblemind, Break Enchantment

One of the rings to Rolund (the only one of the group who doesn’t have one), the other to Basher (who needs it), one of the wands to Gil and the other to Ez, spellbook and scroll to Ez, oils of repair to LB and Basher, and the weapons to be stowed away in the tent until such time they can be sold and part of their money given to Bor for services rendered.

All sounds good, but I would suggest both wands go to Gil. Those spells are in Ez' repertoire already and not hers. And her current option for artillery is rapidly running out of charges.

Take the scroll of Black tentacles too. Ez preps it every day and will probably never bother to cast it at a lower CL. We could work together to make a very large area of difficult terrain in one round.

In case we fight more- warforged are not mindless. You could wreck havoc on a large group of low will save fighter types with confusion. 15' radius burst and a medium range (180 ft for you) spell.

Yeah, I debated seriously what to do, but a more... physical... assault seemed in order. I have to admit, the confusion option never crossed my mind -- I could have spent less time wandering around the map invisibly if I'd realized I had reach like that.

And, confirming, I have at least that many xp. Hadn't realized the cutoff for the next level or I would have been much more excited about it!

Can anyone who has their Eberron book handy let me know what an Exorcist of the Silver Flame gets at 4th level? Need to decide whether I should go that or another level of paladin. I’m thinking that maybe the recent encounter with the Inquisitors might have turned LB off the official church line a bit ...

It happens to be right here...

+1 BAB, Fort save, Will save
Special: Detect thoughts at will (DC = 10 + exorcist level + CHA mod); Weapon of good (chosen weapon is treated good-aligned, silver, and magic for the purpose of overcoming DR)

EDIT I forgot about the altered progression for saves on prestige classes. I'll need to look again, sorry!

EDIT the second Saves do not change at fourth level for prestige classes, it appears.

Hmmm, detect thoughts would be dandy, but Rod can already do that ... Weapon of good almost isn't worthwhile between my good devotion feat and Smite Evil overcoming DR ... have to think about it.

+1 level arcane spellcasting class
