I would like to have everyone respond with the following information, before any other posts get started here. When it comes time to complete chronicles, or in the event I provoke an AoO or need to control the character of an absent player, these will conveniently all be at the top of the first page.
The clerk who is organizing the meeting for the VC has conveniently provided you an example. (And also a quick reply option :)

When Pre combat is obvious or when entering a dungeon, Bom will use Longstrider on himself along with Shield Companion (wand) and ask someone to put Mage Armor (wand) on the wolf. Bom prepares Resist Energy as his main spell and Liberating Command.
Bom's primary tactic is to maneuver his opponent against a wall and use Shield Slam. Against difficult to hit opponents, the wolf (Uflur) is typically used to in Flank position with Aid Another to boost Bom's defense or his offense. Rarely does the wolf directly attack.
Also need to buy some gear...probably getting an adamantine longsword.

Forgot to point out that I get +1 on my reroll as 1 star GM.
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
The scenario landed in my hands today & tomorrow is the day. Here are a couple things that would be helpful.
Post daily or nearly daily. I only get one day off a week so you may not see a post from me on that day, but chances are good I will still be lurking. Quite often folks will be waiting for someone else to post, who is also waiting for them to post. If you check in one day and have nothing to add, no problem. If you check in the next day and still have nothing to add, please post to say as much. Use it as an RP post: casting spark for a fire wizard, polishing a ring for the master jeweler, a catchphrase if you have one. If you will be out for a while, please let me know.
If three people consent to an action, I will continue with that action. If the rest of the party REALLY didn't want something to happen I can back up o retcon. There is no reason two doors on the left and right should bring an advanced party of adventurers to a halt.
Saves DCs will be in a spoiler. I want you to make the roll. If you have a reroll you can decide to use it before knowing the outcome and not have to wait a day.
I want players to roll initiative, but will post the opponent's initiative so if you beat it you can also post an action. This will again prevent waiting.
We will use google docs for maps, and I will provide a link in my avatar.
Please post DCs with spells, SLA, or other effects that require them. Please link obscure (non-core) spells or abilities for my convenience.
Please include defensive numbers (AC, immunities, CMD, Perception) in your profile. I do not need every detail in the short description, just those that will directly effect the NPC (re-) actions. Please make sure your profile is up to date. Unlike a face to face game, character audits will not take time from the game so I make them more frequently in PbP.
Please track consumables & post anything out-of-character longer than a couple lines in the discussion thread.
Please, Please, PLEASE ask me any questions you have. I cannae see your face to tell if you are struggling with something or not. No matter how small the question might seem I am happy to answer. (do you know what d20 stands for? I have answered that question in two of my last three games:) So please ask.
Wow long post, sorry about that. Tomorrow will be worse.
Bom Skjold

Sounds good. I have to give warning, that a lot of Bom's actions will be contingent on the outcomes before him. Bom will pay attention to IC information about how hard a creature is to hit, how hard it hits back, what weapons people are carrying, the terrain.

What is the skill check for detecting a potential landslide? Survival or K. Geography?
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Landslide or avalanche: Perception.
Weakened ceiling (underground): Kn (engineering) or Craft (stonemasonry).
Fong, Zhen
|
Personally, I was thinking Landslide/avalance might be knowledge: nature for such things to happen. But GM says perception...I'm okay with that.
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
That is strait out of the CRB, I am sure other skills will be included if they are relevant to any given adventure. I haven't had time to look too far ahead of the intro for this one just yet.
Warpac
|
I would expect that spotting terrain likely to produce landslides would be geology while spotting a landslide about to happen or happening would be perception.
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
One would expect... :)
CRB says otherwise. I think mechanically it is treated as a trap.
Warpac
|
I put my icon off to the side along with the others there. Do you need us to place them on the map itself and if so whereabouts?
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
I would expect that spotting terrain likely to produce landslides would be geology while spotting a landslide about to happen or happening would be perception.
As expected, the scenario chose a skill for this. In this case Survival. :)
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Hey all, I can't reach internet from my phone without it opening to a page saying 'click to win an I-phone'. Since I won't click OK (its a trap!) I am unable to lurk. It is also the time of year where I spend ALL day at my day job..
I will be back to posting normally next Tuesday, but it will be sporadic until then. Thank you for your patience.

Kind of totally confused.
1. How many "runed" orcs are there and where are they on the map?
2. What do you mean the hellknights are "reachable?"
3. What characters are what below us on the map? Are the hellknights the pictured ones in red or are they the letters?
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Thank you for asking. It's important to ask when I can't see a confused look from across the table. :)
1. 6 runed carved orcs, the leautenant is in yellow, warlord in red. The four others have no border & might blend into the map on a small device. They start 20 to 40 feet from the Lt. I'll add a border when i get to the map tomorrow.
2. The hellknights are battling a larger orc force offstage. Rather than have the GM run a battle against NPC and monsters the scenario gives specifics if PCs want to affect their battle. They are 'reachable' in that they are in range for most PC actions (spells, ranged weapons, move action) Doing so means the PC is also 'offstage' so i didn't want give any specifics that might have a mechanical interpretation.
3. The red hellknight icons just below the map are the hellknights. The letters are a holdover from a different PbP Gameday.
I hope that helps, but ask again if I missed something. :)

So did someone in the party figure out that that the rune carved orcs explode upon death?
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Not upon death, the explosion happened 10 days after the orc's death. Reading the runes caused it (per explosive runes ). Give me a perception check though Bom, if you want.
Bom Skjold
|
So can the runes be read from a distance? Muahahaha.
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Indeed! They can be on most of the orcs. :) The value of experienced followers has led to something different for the lieutenant & sargeant.
Bom Skjold
|
Sure...assuming the distance is outside the explosion radius to trigger the explosion next to a PC
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
I was following the Rule of Cool to see if we can get an orc to explode! That is to say I will intermingle your move action with the standard action (it will go off when you are close enough for the distance penalties to be discounted). If that is too close for comfort then you 'choose' to fail by stopping before you get there (or make your move action first, then we apply the perception roll).
How close are you willing to get? Choose one:
Rule of Cool
1,000 feet? You fail to read the runes.
Or you can wait until next round and act normally this round.
Fong, Zhen

I did misread the post on of the orcs charging. I just thought the three surrendering, though I couldn't understand that. and thought that the HK were fighting the orcs elsewhere.
And bab of over +1 allows me to draw as free, correct?

One group was surrendering and they were being chases by a second group of rune covered orcs. Those are the ones on the map that we are going to fight.
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
Correct three groups of orcs.
1. Surrendering, star burst on map & non-combatants
2. chasing orcs, fighting party now
3. main host, battling/slaying HK south of map.
If you would like to continue aiding them, no problem. If you would rather stay with the party, please feel free to retcon the second round action.
Free to draw a weapon as part of a move action, correct.

Did we lose our GM?
Silas Proth
|
He's been posting on the other tables, maybe he didn't realize we were waiting on him. I'm guessing we won't be done by today...
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
ur GM is suck!
I am just having trouble getting to all the tables. I apologize & am working to remedy your boredom.
Bom Skjold
|
If we don't have to roll and we are only expending actions, not sure I understand why we need to stay in combat rounds unless the Hellknights are going to get defeated and we have to take over the battle.
| Venture Teller Play b'Post |
The length of your battle determines how much the Hellknights win their battle by (aiding them increases their chances). Your battle is not over, as the sleeping orcs can rejoin once awakened.
If the paladin has an issue with slitting the throats of sleeping orcs, then only Zhong is close enough to CdG this round. Warpac & Bom can make a CdG in two rounds on the Lt. or next round on the warlord. The time spent moving and taking full round actions is time Hellknights spend dieing. So far no HK have fallen, but they would have if they hadn't recieved aid from Bom & Warpac.
It is up to the party on how to proceed, and there are different outcomes depending on what you want to do.
Does that help clear things up?
Silas Proth
|
Much clearer, thanks. Silas does have a problem with slitting the throats of sleeping orcs, but with his low Intelligence and average Wisdom he's going to assume his allies will do the right thing. I'm going to spend my turn helping the Hellknights (or moving to get there).
Warpac
|
Would subduing them by knocking them out or by tying them up work?
Bom Skjold
|
So just a little confused here. It seems we have to choose between two different tasks?
Stopping some portal from opening or protecting some temple?
Warpac
|
I get the impression that the portal thing is imminent. There may be time after dealing with the portal to save the temple. But the wording on the temple sounded urgent too, just not AS urgent.
Maybe there will be some success criteria for us being able to get to the temple quick enough after dealing with the portal. I don't know, and your question is a good one.
Bom Skjold
|
Gosh...do we split the party?
muahahahahaha
Warpac

Was that an evil laugh I heard? Careful there or you may morph into a GM.

From the original briefing, which in PbP is easy to forget.
...As it happens, one of the sites in Olandil’s journal lies close to the Menador Gap. Called The Temple of the Sky, this site supposedly contains a host of magical pillars that hold ancient knowledge. I’m sure you’ll agree that such knowledge is best kept safe within the Dark Archives, which is why we would like you to obtain a transcription of each pillar."
The Pathfinder mission.“Equally important to recovering these tablets,” Zarta continues, “is your mission to aid the Hellknights in securing the Menador Mountains. The details are vague, but we are told that the diviners of their order determined that a chaotic catastrophe is brewing somewhere in the peaks, and we suspect orcs are involved. Pathfinders, myself included, have come into conflict with Hellknights in the past, but they are still useful allies who share a number of our goals. Helping eliminate the threat will strengthen our alliance and ensure Hellknight aid in the future.”The Pathfinder mission.
In short you have two missions & need to decide how to accomplish them.
EDIT: Mwuhahaha! >:)
Bom Skjold
|
Sounds like we need to convince the hellknights to go the village.
@GM, does the scenario say which skills we can use other than the obvious diplomacy and intimidate?
Fong, Zhen
|
Wiping his bloodied sword on the body of the orc to try to get some of the blood off, Zhen sheathes the weapon and walks over toward the head of the hellknights.
"I trust we have found a mutually beneficial friendship here?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
Warpac
|
Put that in gameplay, Zhen or I'll be forced to ignore it. Wait, I just replied. Dang.
