Botting Laeshin to keep things moving.
"You'd better have something good, Sefel! This thing hits hard!"
Laeshin shakes off the sonic blast, and drawing his sword with his free hand, takes a guarded step to the north. He swings at the creature as it flails about, as it's gotten itself surrounded!
Attack,Flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10 but misses, as the creature is moving too much to land a solid blow.

Laeshin's swing connects, slicing right through one of the beast's legs!
At the same time, Aazanar's first swing of the doshko sweeps the Skreebara's legs out from under it on the other side, and he immediately swings around into an overhead swing right into the beast's head, shattering it's carapace and spewing purple and green gunk everywhere.
With one final shriek, the creature collapses into a pile of crystal shards, its broken legs pointing in all directions feebly. Its powerful jaws hang open, twitching mindlessly in the final throes of death.
Was really hoping Sefel's shot would hit, could have exploded the thing!
The desert is still once again. The shattered body lies silently twitching, while the crash site sits ahead.

Sefel rolls his eyes at his super-charged shot going wide. It instead hits a large boulder behind the sand-beast by sixty feet and shatters it in a loud explosion that leaves behind a cloud of dust.
"See! If it would have just stood still that's what I would have done to it. Ah, well. Next time. Good job, folks!"
He holsters his laser pistol, shields his eyes from the sun with his hand and slowly turns, scanning the nearby area for signs of additional creatures lurking just beneath the surface.

"Hm, strange creature. Well done everyone!"
Aazanar picks up one of the crystals as a souvenir. He looks at in the light after brushing it off with his jacket.
"Let's see if we can find some shelter; I could use a breather. Maybe within the wreckage?"

Kultha eyes first the damage wrought upon the creature, then the ruined boulder with a smile;
"Good thinking Friend Sefel. That boulder vas vaiting in ambush!"
With a nod in agreement that the wreckage is likely their best port of call, the vesk pushes forward.

Aazanar (or anyone else) can give me Life Science to examine the creature's crystals.

"Taking shelter in the wreckage to rest is a good plan." Laeshin agrees as we cleans his blade with a kerchief before sheathing the sword. Then he draws his flashlight, and begins stepping towards the wreckage to search it.

"Vait. Ve should look at the gun too yes?"

I don't have Life Science. Sefel?
"Hmmm.... See those holes? And the impacts on the hull? This shipp didn't crash. It was shot down. Some kind of kinetic projectile weapon, like a coilgun."
"Which means there may be intelligent enemies lurking around somewhere."

Alledisil |

As you approach the downed vessel, its obvious it is far beyond repair. The distress beacon is still beeping on the main console, so someone survived long enough to activate it. But there are no survivors left - seven dessicated corpses remain in the wreckage, and it looks like the remaining crew members were pulled out and devoured by the skreebara, judging from the scratches on the floor and walls.
Nothing of value is evident in the wreckage; looks like anything obviously worth salvaging was taken by the Corpse Fleet who plundered it earlier.
The computer system (running the distress call) is still active, though, and one of its ports has a star-shaped indentation.

Kultha waves to the others, before shouting over their comms:
"It is still funktional! I kan have it detached in 10 minutes... Vant me to kut it free?"

Sefel grabs one of the skreebara's crystals and has a quick look before joining the others at the wreckage.

Alledisil |

@Sefel: The tough, overlapping crystals that form the creature's carapace are rather beautiful, though many of them are damaged. You manage to recover a fair amount of them, and you suspect you could sell them for about 400 credits.
The computer is hibernating and only has emergency power left, so the console doesn't respond to any commands. The star-shaped access port does pique your interest, though. It's connected directly to the ship's databank.

![]() |

After not having much luck at the console, Sefel connects his datapad to the star-shaped port. let me know if another check is needed.

![]() |

Sefel frowns at the star port, not being readily usable by the equipment he has on hand.
He inspects it more closely to see if there's something already plugged in or if there's another way he might interface with it.

Might just be me, but sometimes I find it easy to forget a thing that was said in a relevant post that was days ago in PbP :/ Re-read the VC posts, re-read the VC posts...

As the others conduct the wreckage investigation and data-retrieval, Kultha busies herself with removing the tactical x-gen gun from the fuselage it is attached to.
Need any Engineering checks GM?

Alledisil |

Yep, those were the magic words. PbP isn't as good for those neat little plot threads as it is in person.
Kultha No need for any checks, it's pretty simple to demount the gun. Just time consuming.
When the insignia is slotted into the indentation, the computer flares to life just enough to display a datafile of worlds previously explored by the crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer. They include:
* A Wasteland planet called Elytrio that displayed signs of scattered technology.
* A sentient asteroid called Lamentia teeming with morlock "children" in the Vast.
* A massive space station called End of Bright Things stuck between the orbits of two blue dwarf stars.
* A stormy, oceanic world called Wealdriad, with upthrust columns of basalt piercing the storm-tossed ocean's surface.
The final coordinates are too damaged to display, but the computer has just enough power to open a slot containing a salvaged item from the lost location. A hidden compartment in the console opens up, revealing the Starfinders' one takeaway from the mystery system. It's a shimmering stone.
Mysticism?

![]() |

"I believe this data is exactly what we are looking for. Well done."
"We should try to arrange some kind of transportation for the remains of the crew. Maybe we can fashion some kind of sled from the wreckage?"
I assume there is a chance for a 10-minute rest within the shelter of the wrecked ship?

![]() |

Kultha continues to graft away removing the gun from its mounting.
She listens with interest on the group's comms as they discuss their findings in the wreckage;
"Aazanar. Ve kud try to get them home. Or bury them here vith honours? Ve kud use the Starfinder insignas as markers?"

Sefel lets Hokhuckx in at the console to see the stone, for just a moment before brushing him back away and inspecting it himself.

Sefel, you recognize this as an iridescent spindle aeon stone. Listed under magic items Table 7-27
Ten minutes pass quietly in the safety of the crashed ship.
Back to full SP.
You scrounge around and fashion a sled to transport the bodies back to the Day Tripper. The walk back across the desert to your landings site is plodding and tiring, due to the extra weight of the corpses and the x-gen gun, but altogether uneventful.
As you get everything stowed away, the engines roar to life and the Day Tripper lifts off the surface, scattering dust and crystal shards behind it.

Well, that wasn't so bad. Outside the storms. And the beasts. And the fact that we just collected the bodies of our fellows, to which we could meet a similar fate.
We can't leave soon enough, actually.

"Yes, it seems on strange, distant planets danger is present at every turn. I wonder what the mortality rate in the society is..."

"Well... we all knew there would be risks. But we're alive and that's what matters. So let's get off this dustball and back home!"

Kultha loads the bodies and weaponry onto the Daytripper with equal care;
"Da. Risks are part of life... and for some death. It is part of being Starfinder no?"

![]() |

"Yes, my eyes are wide open. I suppose I'm still just adjusting from a recent... career change."
Sefel smiles and wanders back to his cabin in the ship to work on hobby side-projects on his datapad.

Might want to get back to your station, Sefel!
A warning klaxon blares, and the ship lurches. The asteroid field around the world of Ulmarid is more agitated than on the descent down to the surface. Although it's not clear what has caused the anomalous activity, what's certain is that you must reach safer altitude before a more serious collision occurs.
Same as on the trip down.

Captain, you can give me Piloting, Diplomacy, or Intimidate to assist.
Science Officer, you can give Computers to plot a course through the asteroids.
