Strang
Acrobatics DC 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
String smoothly steps down the wall, "surfing" over the greasy part and stepping forward into the enclosed area - ending up next to the downed Felgarr and Maggie.
"Belrain, are they going to be okay?" he asked, uncertain of their fate and mildly nauseated by seeing their wounds up close.
Bizzlemont Blacktop
"Don't let them get away!" Bizzlemont reloads his crossbow and fires at the spearman again, and yet again he misses the mark by a mile.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Ama Freewater
It was a tough decision. She trusted in the party to be able to get things done, but wanted to help. While she knew she was capable of engaging with the spearmen, if she engaged, Felgarr and Magnhlidir would be helpless on the ground. Gritting her teeth in frustration, she reached back for her glaive and did what she could to help Terion in his attacks.

Terion Stoutheart
Terion nods with a smile to Ama as he notices her intelligent tactical awareness. Taking a step forward (to AC13), he presses in on another spearman.
I believe the one in AD13 is still up?
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 81d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
And almost stabs himself in the rush to attack...
Strang
"Alright, now we're getting somewhere!" says Strang. Estimating the distance to a spot opposite Terion that would place the spearmen between them, he takes a deep breath and lunges across the open ground drawing his sword as he does so.
Acrobatics (DC = Spearman CMD): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Tribute, you get an Attack of Opportunity against me.
Unfortunately, he tripped over his own bootlaces and stumbled - making little progress and opening himself up for an attack in return.
Humiliated at failing so spectacularly, he can do little more than take a swipe with his sword.
Attack (shortsword): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
... which performs about as well as Terion's attempted attack.

Terion and Strang risk spear pokes to get close.
AoO Strang/damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
AoO Terion/damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The spearman poking Strang steps back and tries again.
melee attack Strang/damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The last sleeping spearman is woken up and tries to stand (provoking from Strang).
Bizzlemont Blacktop
Sighing at their continued troubles, Bizzlemont leaps down the stairs and points his finger at the middle spearman, trying to blind him.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Strang
"Argh!" grunted/hissed Strang in pain, as injury was added to insult.
When the nearby "asleep" spearman tried to get up,

Attack (shortsword): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Strang dealt him a wicked slash and followed up with another equally-savage blow that quite possibly slayed the man outright.

Combat Over! great job
In a dazzling display, Strang and Terion put the spearmen down. The field is held for the day.
Ramne claps his hands as he waits for the grease to dissipate, and ambles down.
He points to his next tattered scroll. "This one allows me to comprehend arcane languages. I have it ready in case I hear anyone talking in a strange language."

Belrain receives an urgent summons from on high.
Before departing, he heals all for 5d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 3, 4) = 23 as a last gift to the group. Obviously he is favored as healing is quite powerful. He intones "Go on without me. Defeat the great evil for me."
He bravely sets out for Orlane with all his nonmagical gear and his share of the loot.
Magnhlidr Whitescale
"Oooooooow."
Magnhilder slowly rises, clutching the place where the spears bit into her belly. When she pulls her hand away, she's more than a little shocked to see the palm covered in blood. Panic fills her being as she claws at cloth and chain alike until she sees pink scars where there had been gaping holes. She leans up against the wall, her body shaking.
"I don't know who, but I owe somebody my life."
Bizzlemont Blacktop
Bizzlemont hops down the steps to the body of the mage. He checks the man's pockets and then looks up to Elgoron. "You have Detect Magic, right?" He waits expectantly.
Elgoron
|
"I do. I'll examine the area for any surprises our foes have laid for us. Everyone search our enemies for valuables, and do keep your eyes open for any rings you may find. One of them might be mine."
Elgoron then closes his eyes for a time, struggling to complete his spell, and opens them with a flash, moving around the walls of the room to look for secrets, traps, or lingering spells.
Basically taking 20 since it's a 0-level, I'd succeed sooner or later, yeah?
Terion Stoutheart
Terion straightens up and cleans his blade on a piece of cloth ripped from one of the dead bodies - "Damned bastards keep on catching us by surprise - I've half a mind to set this whole place on fire" - Terion roars.
"Is everyone ok?" - he inquires concerned for his companions that were knocked unconscious during the fray, and after he makes sure they have recovered, he stands watch while the others search the area.
Felgarr Thundershield
"Grug. That slippery staircase was almost my doom. Safe travels, Belrain."
"One of us should take up the ring that Belrain left. I saw the power of its enchantment deflect several blows that should have struck him. It would do any of us well. Who wants it?"

Map is updated.
You find yourself at a four-way intersection.
Searching the guards, you find they had a spear, a dagger, and a suit of scale mail. They also had a day of supplies in the form of a bowl of gruel. One of the guards also has a note in his gruel: 'I gave you extra, you pal, Dirk (winks)'
You are also subject to the color I added when I ran this module many years ago. DM embellishment may continue. Left, right or straight?
Felgarr Thundershield
Go ahead with the ring Terion. Also, with Belrain departed and Terion switching styles, can we update our marching order? I suggest:
Double File
Felgarr Terion
Mags Strang
Bizzlemont Elgoron
Ama
Single File
Terion
Strang
Mags
Elgoron
Bizzle
Ama
Felgarr
"Left is fine. Let's keep our eyes peeled. We don't want to have to deal with another ambush like that. We can fit the suits of armor into Mags', Terion's, and my packs. The rest of you can carry an extra weapon. That way we keep the cultists from re-using these items against us in the future."
He hastens to take his own advice, then declares.
"Let's go."
