Aardvark's "What a Royal Pain" CotCT Campaign (Inactive)

Game Master Troy Malovich

The second Pathfinder AP, set in the city of Korvosa. The city is in turmoil after the death of the king.

Loot List

Harrow Points (Don't forget about those):
Harrow Points:The following are the ways you can spend your Harrow Points.

Feldivarxon: 3 (No card)
Neva: 4 (The Trumpet)
Raliscar: 0 (The Tangled Briar)
Rutter: 3 (The Sickness)
Vyshael: 3 (The Mountain Man)

Constitution Rerolls: Spend a Harrow Point to reroll any one Fortitude save, or other Constitution-based d20 roll. You must abide by the new result (although if you have additional Haroow Points remaining, you can use them to attempt additional rerolls).

Fast Hit Point Recovery: Spend a Harrow Point after resting for a minute to catch your breath and recover from your recent ordeals - you heal a number of HP equal to your class level and 1 ability point of damage (but not ability drain) each time you do so. You may spend a Harrow Point in this manner once after each encounter.

Damage Reduction: Spend a Harrow Point to gain DR 3/-. This DR persists for the duration of the encounter in which you spent the Harrow Point.

We are fairly early into the second book (about 1/5 to 1/4 the way in), and lost a player due to scheduling/workload. We are the tortoise over the hare when it comes to rate of posting, and slow and steady will win the race. We tend to slow down, sometimes as low as 2 posts a week on average, but posting more often is not discouraged. Despite how busy I have ever gotten as a GM (run 3 PbP's, play in 9, run a TT, work full time and go to college part-time), I have not bowed out, and barring sudden life-changing events, am not likely to do so.

Currently the party consists of:
Human Cleric
Human Bard
Halfling Fighter/Rogue
Dwarf Fighter

We could use a full arcane I would imagine, but it's not necessary as we have most roles covered.

Character guidelines:
Level 4
Core races only (Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half Elf, Halfling, Half-Orc, Human)
Classes Allowed are all PF classes except: Gunslinger, Ninja, Samurai, and Antipaladin.
20 pt buy
2 traits (AP trait not required)
WBL: 6,000, no more than half on any single item
(though I would prefer the guidelines of "25% on weapons, 25% on armor and protective devices, 25% on other magic items, 15% on disposable items like potions, scrolls, and wands, and 10% on ordinary gear and coins" be considered).
HP/lvl are rolled or half, whichever is higher (of course max at 1st).
Encumbrance, Vision/Light, and Rations will be tracked by the players.

Only houserule: 1's and 20's on skills equal -10/+10 to the roll respectively.

The submissions will be viewed by the current party and myself, and the decision will be made by all of us. The group is about to head into a battle that they have already had to retreat from, and have prepared themselves and returned. Feel free to read any of my games to get an idea of how I run them, and especially feel free to read the events of the first book to get an idea of what's happened thus far (it went through 2 other GM's before I got a hold of it). But with close to 1700 posts, you may not want to, or even wait until selected.

I know it isn't a full arcane but how about a master summoner? otherwise I will try to post a wizard soon. I haven't decided between a blaster caster or more of a support wizard, any preference?

Again, full arcane isn't required. It may be useful, but not required (since the bard has decent access to most things arcane).

Highlander You gain a +1 trait bonus on Stealth checks, and Stealth is always a class skill for you. This trait bonus increases to +2 in hilly or rocky areas.
Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
Skills Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.
Aura of Good The power of a paladin's aura of good is equal to her paladin level.
Detect Evil At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
Smite Evil (2/day) A paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, the paladin adds her Cha bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite.
Divine Grace At 2nd level, a paladin gains a bonus equal to her Charisma bonus (if any) on all Saving Throws.
Lay on Hands Beginning at 2nd level, a paladin can heal wounds (her own or those of others) by touch. (2d6, 5 times per day)
Aura of Courage At 3rd level, a paladin is immune to fear (magical or otherwise). Each ally within 10 feet of her gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects. This ability functions only while the paladin is conscious, not if she is unconscious or dead.
Divine Health At 3rd level, a paladin is immune to all diseases, including supernatural and magical diseases, including mummy rot.
Mercy At 3rd level, and every three levels thereafter, a paladin can select one mercy. Each mercy adds an effect to the paladin's lay on hands ability. (Fatigued)
Lay on Hands When a paladin reaches 4th level, she gains the supernatural ability to channel positive energy like a cleric. Using this ability consumes two uses of her lay on hands ability. A paladin uses her level as her effective cleric level when channeling positive energy. This is a Charisma-based ability.

Billynbrainpan here.
I will post make a physical description and put it in this profile. The crunch is done and I have most of a backstory that I will flesh out and put under this alias as well if I get selected.

Entertainingly enough, one of the last people we lost when the bard came in was a Halfling summoner, with an eidolon as a mount. The eidolon was called Rex.

Not saying this affects your chances, I just found the connection amusing.

Here's Deldros

He's still got pockets full of gold, and he needs some more fluff, but I figured I'd post him tonight before I go to bed. Also, if you scroll down a ways, you'll find his spell book and familiar. Tomorrow I'll finish him up :)

The Exchange

Oh what you guys need is precisely what I love to play. A battlefield control/utility wizard after the style of treantmonk. I have a version of him level 2, can get a lv 4 of him up tomorrow

P.S. This is his lv 2 version

I forgot to put a timeline for this, but I would like to say that I'll give it one week. So, deadline will be Tue at midnight (EST).

Also, bumping the thread.

Tiasar here as his updated lv 4 character. Can you check my equipment and see if it's ok? That's always the hardest part of starting a character off that's not a REALLY low level. I don't believe I have a single item that costs over 1k, but I didn't really follow your guidelines on wealth distribution

I'd like to present Mervyn the Scrivener; while the profile is level 1 I can easily update it to level 4 if the character is selected.

For Curse of the Crimson Throne in the second book, I would foresee that Mervyn has arrived to study the riots that have recently happened and also to seek entry into the Academae to use their library. From there, he would get caught up in the madness happening around him.

GRRR so angry, had a long post about points I wanted to make, and accidently backspaced and it all went away.

Quick rewrite

I would like some story reason for low scores (for high scores would be welcome too). Why is the Chr so low (stutter, ugly, etc), what caused them to be weak (lack of physical activity, childhood sickness), how is their low Wis reflected (naïve, just act before thinking things through)?

For each of you:

Rex:
You armor alone puts you at medium load (heavy with all your gear)

You and all your gear almost put Gru at medium load.

Tiasar:
Fly skill says you can't take ranks without a regular means of flight.

He wants more power... but so do almost all adventurers. The question is WHY does he want more power? What's his end goal?

Deldros:
You are also under medium load, (not counting your almost 68 lbs of coin).

Also, you have fly ranks, but no means of flight

Also, you have extreme highs and lows. How did that happen (other than I put the points there)? What causes someone to have a 7 Str and Chr, an 8 Wis, but an 18 Dex and 20 Int?

Victoria:
You have a heavy shield, but look like an archer build. You know you can't fire a bow using any shield larger than a buckler.

Also, I don't remember if it checked out or not, but I think your stealth is 2 points too high (don't forget to apply your Armor Check Penalty).

Mervyn:
What Deity do you follow?

I can't find weight (or stats) for a switchscythe, but using a scythe your weapons and armor almost put you at medium load.

Your ability scores are about 45 pt buy (guessing they were rolled for a previous game)?

Oh cool, I love Q+A, helps me get deeper into my character.

Fly skill: Honestly that was because at some point I know I'd pick up the fly spell and wanted to be able to navigate well. I'd say if there was any reason he had it now is because he's constantly researching how to attain flight, and in preparation for it he also studies how to maneuver. If you want me to redirect the points I will, no problem.

Power: Muahahaha, oh this is a story. Well when I ran my first home-brew campaign, Tiasar was the right hand man, best friend, and arcane help for my main villain. Secretly Tiasar was plotting his downfall, using the power of the eclipse as well as a few collected artifacts to redirect the magic my villain was making. He was trying to attain godhood, but Tiasar used it to summon a CR 30 magma titan (not realizing that this titan helped keep the earth together as part of the core). So, how this is all started is because Tiasar's original mentor showed him a small collection of the beings that existed on the infinite planes. After he left home he pursued writing a collection of every being on the infinite planes as well as the environment, hierarchy of extraplanar beings, and their history. It's a ridiculously huge goal that won't be anywhere near completed until Tiasar is epic leveled and has access to awe inspiring magic...however it all starts with research, which is why he travels the world gathering all the info he can. If you've ever played with Tiasar in a party that has an Aasimar or a Tiefling, he just goes completely nuts and can't stop asking them questions, it's actually rather hilarious to see their reactions. I've had a LG Aasimar cleric who politely tried to answer questions all the way to a CN Tiefling rogue who nearly stabbed me

Pathetic Strength Score: Nothing too special here, is an intellectual and for a few decades a complete hermit, often using 'mage hand' or 'unseen servant' and other such spells because they were more convenient than getting up himself. However his Con score isn't similarly pathetic because he has been exposed to various chemicals, creatures, and sometimes was rather injured while doing his research. You'll notice this during play, he might read a levitating book while sipping a cup of tea or something.

Awesome Intelligence Score: Kind of similar to the strength reason, he spent decades being a hermit with his half insane mentor Whirrun. He might spend a week inside researching a single topic deeply, anything from the moon cycle to the history of a particular devil's history on the material plane. Or he might dedicate 30 hours strait to watching a being's behavior on the astral plane. He likes very thuroughly researching things, and sometimes when a subject is brought up he knows something about or somebody asks him for information he starts ranting and going on into a lot more detail than they cared for.

Ok, I think I got everything, sorry for the super long post but I really like this character and want to go far with him lol

Dark Archive

Switchscythe comes from Gnomes of Golarion and has the same stats as a Scythe but the blade can be hidden. I know I'm almost at Medium load but that is why I bought the donkey, Quill.

Mervyn follows Magdh (http://www.pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Magdh) who is an Eldest who looks after Knowledge.

Yes, the stats were rolled for a previous game and I can easily amend them.

Oops I forgot to look at my carrying capacity. it has been fixed now.

Hey Aardvark -- if you haven't selected yet, I'd like to throw in a character that had started a CoCT a while back but was orphaned when the campaign collapsed. (I was in your Darksun thing a while back, and would love to get the chance to get in on something new).

Will have the character up in a few hours, assuming the slot's still empty?

Yes it's still open. For about another 24 hrs.

Tiasar: So, in summary, he wants to be able to catalogue/learn about all the creatures of all the planes? Or am I off the mark?

Pretty much, yes. Imagine it as a bestiary

3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) = 10

So, that's 5 for level 2, 4 for levels 3 and 4.

Okay, Tilnar here -- this is the character I was hoping to submit - as I said, he's a poor orphan from an earlier excursion to hunt down Lamm. I tried to keep a good division of wealth, though the mithral shirt *was* a bit more than 25%. ;)

Oh and as far as his more immediate goals, he heard from his father (after she split up with his mother) that he had a half sister somewhere in the world (and was also the reason they split up). Right now he's trying to track her down, and rumor after rumor has led him around the world (look at Aeyra for an idea of her)

Upon further reflection of my characters goals, I realized they were too overarching to be of much use. I basically said "MY CHARACTER WANTS TO ATTAIN GODHOOD" which is rather unfair to any DM. It gives them nothing to go on

Sorry for the long delay, I was giving the players a few days for input. In the end, we will be taking Vyshael. I apologize to the others.

Vyshael, please feel free to pop into the discussion thread and we can iron out your entry into the group.

Happy gaming all, congrats Vyshael!
