Adran Liadon |

Adran will check to see if any of the fallen are still alive. He will also try to stay out of the way of the characters fighting the fire. Last but not least Adran will get the inn keeper's keys and check to see if there's anything in the room that would provide a clue to Mala's whereabouts.

Adran Liadon |

Perception check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Medicine check: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Let me know if you want one roll for each person down. If so the first check was on the inn keeper and I'll roll again for each of the farmers.

Adran Liadon |

Adran will say, "We need to have somebody who knows what they're doing check the guys who are down. If any of them are alive we need to keep them that way."
Adran will wait until the fire is out and the fallen have been checked again before he does anything with the passage he found.

GM Helaman |

The fire cannot be put out by the ray of frost alone but Beckett is at hand soon with a bucket to put out the fire.
The passage is dark but with darkvision you can see that the passage is lined with musty straw, its floor planks laid over tight suspended ropes swing and moves slightly... possibly to dampen the sound of passage;
The passage moves to a end and a corner, then around another passage... handles protrude from a section. Using that you push out and find yourselves in one of the guest rooms.
The passage allows a concealed access to all of the guest rooms in fact.

Adran Liadon |

Adran comments, "So we've got 5 dead bodies, no Mala, and at least up here no concrete evidence of anything especially nefarious. The secret passage here is definitely incriminating, but by itself doesn't mean too much."
Adran will draw his dagger, cast a light cantrip on the blade, and then double check to see if there are any other passages coming off the one they are in.
Perception check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

GM Helaman |

A simple pull up of a panel of floorboards in the secret corridor outside the larger room the farmers were in... it reveals a ladder which leads down into the back of the inn.
It occurs to you it would be possible for the innkeep or his friends could move around without being spotted and only heard with difficulty - though it doesn't explain how Mala may have been taken from under your noses with no sound whatsoever.

Adran Liadon |

Adran will search the tap room and then the inn keeper's room..
Perception check for tap room: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Perception check for inn keeper's room: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
And finds squat. But at least he had a couple of good rolls earlier.

Grimm Warhammer |

Grimm followed Adran down the ladder and while he is checking the tap room, Grimm will search the innkeepers bedroom.
"I'm gonna check that snakes room to see if there might be anything there that can explain what is going on here!"

When Rex is done with the search he will head outside.
Why? Why must we lose friends, lose faith, lose lives. he says to himself before he starts crying. Damned Cult. I will destroy you. You took from me my friends who to me were family. I swear, you will harm no one else.
He will then head back in.
Grimm, Adran, Beckett. We need to destroy this cult. I don't care about how many there are. They hurt people. Good people. We will make them pay.
Still there have to be some people who can help us. Hopefully. If this cult decides to exist when we have found these people, I will burn where they are hiding to the ground when we are done with them!

The barkeep is savable.
He is sorely wounded, unconscious but stable.

Then I'll go ahead and do it. I'm not entirely sure what all resources I have in 5E to do so. I have a Cure Light Wounds spell, but is that anything else? I'll go ahead and use that now. Preferably after making sure he's secured and can't grab anything to beat on us with).

The innkeeps complexion, pale and waxen becomes flush with health as the magic infuses him with life.
Die! Unbelievers! he says as he struggles to his feet.

GM Helaman |

What is in the room to search, or am I just doing a general search?
I assume you are doing a proper search of the bedroom as opposed to just running your eye over the place and moving on.
There is something to find but it isn't a 30 sec process.
Action goes back to Caithan and Rex/Adran.

Caithan Kalson |

A tall figure stands in the doorway looking roughly middle aged his curly red hair is streaked with white strands. Armed and red in the face as if he's already exerted hismelf to get here. Taking a step back at seeing the stranger open the door he gets in a stance halfway between running and charging as if by reflex.
"A local patron. Which you're not."

![]() |

Too many things going on, I have no clue what's actually happening right now.

GM Helaman |

You are dealing with a struggling innkeep yelling "die unbelievers" and trying to stand up, presumably to attack you. You need to give an action for that - what are you doing?
Grimm is searching the Innkeeps bedroom. In due course he'll find something - it takes more than 30 seconds to search a room.
Rex and Adran are at the door dealing with "A tall figure stands in the doorway looking roughly middle aged his curly red hair is streaked with white strands. Armed and red in the face as if he's already exerted hismelf to get here", who was pounding on the door.

Adran Liadon |

Adran looks at Rex, and Rex hears Adran's voice in his mind, "Let me handle this."
Adran moves to where he can converse with the person at the door. Adran says, "No, we're not local. We just got into town the other day and rented rooms here. Unfortunately the inn keeper has taken ill. Looks to be some sort of swamp fever. Our healer is trying to help him now. However, we aren't sure how contagious it is, and in any event aren't set up to run the inn as it would operate normally. Closing the inn seemed to be the best option to follow. So I'm afraid you'll have to get your meal at the other inn today."

Caithan Kalson |

"Too much strangeness happening in this town for you to make me think you just took over the mans inn out of the kindness of your heart. You should try again or let me see him before I alert the guard."

Adran Liadon |

Adran replies, "The bottom line problem is that we don't trust you any more than you trust us. And the circumstances are such that we can't let just anybody prance on in here. However, we are going to have to talk to certain people eventually anyway. So if you're really that concerned then by all means get either the Mayor or the Constable, or preferably both of them, and bring them here. And when I say the Constable, I mean the Constable and not one of his deputies. We will let you all in and give you the complete run down. But other than that, this inn is closed."

Caithan Kalson |

"You're making one hell of a mistake bringing the constable into your business since he's one of them now. I don't have time to argue with strangers."
And with that the man runs off into the dark.

Adran Liadon |

Adran closes and bars the door. Then he sighs. He says to Rex, "Not knowing who to trust is an almost insurmountable problem. But with several dead bodies to deal with the Constable is going to be eventually involved some way. And other cultists are going to eventually know that things have gone wrong too."
"I'll get my armor on. Go upstairs and tell Beckett he should do likewise. Then we'll see what happens."
Adran puts his armor on and puts his mace and handaxe in their usual carry locations. He keeps his arcane focus hanging out where he can handle it if he has to.

![]() |

Rex is now annoyed.
Adran. That man is going to get us killed. We need to go after him. He comes back I will see if he is part of this cult.
Since Rex has his daggers, he run up stairs to get Beckett and Grimm. Seeing beckett with the now standing, and dangerous Innkeeper, he will pull out his dagger and put it to the Inn keepers throat.
Beckett. Get your armor, and get Grimm. I'll deal with this man.
Now listen here you useless excuse for a man. If you do not tell me everything I want to know, I will kill you again. And I will make sure Beckett doesn't bring you back. Your god won't help you because I promise you. If I lose anymore friends I will find your god and tear him limb from limb. Then If you are still alive, I will come back at do the same for you. Do you understand. I will make your death Hell. Unless you decide to tell me what I want and Where I can destroy your cult, and make sure everyone burns!

** spoiler omitted **
Caithan thinks for a moment... There is those two newcomers near the Mayors. They approached you a few weeks ago and you shared your concerns with them. You trust them more than you trust the law here and maybe they can help here. They hinted at being official in some capacity... You could fetch them.
Back in the Inn the boy is faced with a raving lunatic who tries to grapple with you for your dagger.

In My defense He did set us up for an ambush, We killed him once, and he apparently got up again and seemed to be threatening Beckett, Rex didn't see Beckett heal him, so he was making sure. Then When Rex offered a peaceful solution, the man when for the knife. Since he was dangerous, Rex had to be sure that he wouldn't try to kill Rex's friends.

Adran Liadon |

Adran will finish getting equipped and then go help Grimm search the inn keeper's room. Adran will say "We've got problems coming one way or another. Let me help you with this so we can finish this quickly."
