The lower level of the shrine is carved into rocky ground.
Its construction is somewhat unstable, as evidenced by the
collapse in the southeast corner, but it is steady enough that the partys actions are almost certain not to trigger further cave-ins.
On either side of the stairs leading into the forest shrine’s
lower level are two curved pieces of stone, each polished to
a mirror sheen and inscribed with the same sentence over
and over again in a variety of languages. The sentence on the
northern stone is “All truths are lies,” while the sentence on
the southern stone is “All lies are truths.”
A smaller version of the statue seen at the entrance to the
shrine presides over the center of this small chamber. In front
of the statue, a supplicant kneels in silent contemplation.

Questions about the map. Where are the stairs (or passage leading back) up? Where is the supplicant? Which way is north?

![]() |

"Now now, boys - play nice.", Anibal smirks, stepping inside the 'shrine', or whatever you would like to call a half-collapsed hole in the ground with some scribble on the walls.
"These guys sure like their oxymorons. I saw writings that made more sense in the Katapesh bazaars. Slave price lists, and those had some odd stuff in them. Good teeth, not bald, discounts for smelly feet or underbellies... Heh. Strange people, slave merchants."

Tesson, tankard at the ready, steps before Abaal to protect the Bounty Hunter and whispers a few words in a strange tongue. "Λιτνινγ βολτ!"
When he's finished, his tankard begins to crackle with electric energy.
"Errm we come in peace." he says, remembering that the "assassins of people with no roofs over their heads" is frowned upon at the Lodge. Then he looks upward to see if there's a ceiling and sighs in relief.
"All clear, we will not be mocked." he states, mostly to himself.
