The Healer

Play-by-Post Discussion

Welcome to the recruitment page for Destiny’s Call. and the path of the (Healer.)

This recruitment is for a sandbox style pathfinder campaign that will be set in the world of Golarion. Ultimately, I have prepared multiple modules, scenarios, and adventures with different story-line hooks that will surface within the campaign in order to allow (you) the player to choose which adventure you will participate in. This is intended to create a nonlinear experience where the (PC) group can affect the dynamic of the world they live in by choosing their own path. That being said, this link is specifically for the role of the Healer . If you choose to submit a character on this thread, please do so knowing that the character is meant to fill that role. The class should include skills in Healing, knowledge religion, and have the ability to cast healing spells. Only (1) character from this category will be accepted with 2 others selected as alternates. Only one charter submission per category will be allowed. Multiple character submissions within a single category will result in disqualification. Only characters with complete profiles will be considered.

Other strong considerations for selection include a robust background, which is completely open to the player, a solid personality concept, and a strong visual description.

The Crunch:

Content: I am open to virtually all Paizo content as long as the character makes sense and the background strongly supports the choices made by the player. Preferably, no third party content.

Expectations: I intend to review the game daily and expect that players will do the same. That being said, if someone is going to be absent, one of three things will happen. 1) The game will be placed on hold for a short break. 2) The character will be botted. 3) The character will be shadowed. This campaign is intended to be a long running campaign with a strong focus on depth and detail. I realize that sometimes too much detail can stagnate a game, but I feel confident that I can apply momentum when necessary.

Role play: Within the realm of role play, it is sometimes difficult to embrace a unique personality concept without stepping on other people’s toes. Ultimately, I intend this campaign to be approached with an adult mind set. On the other hand, I have little tolerance for someone who is set upon ruining the game for others. Simply put, don’t be a tool! If a players personality concept, role play, or posts become inappropriate, I will PM the player with the hopes that an adjustment can be made. If the problem persists, the player will be asked to leave.

Timeline: Cutoff date for submissions will be on All Hallows Eve (October 31st). After which I will make a selection and post in this thread as well as PM the player with a link to the game.

2nd addition Pathfinder: Upon the release of 2nd addition pathfinder, I will be tabling the option of converting the campaign over. That means if 2nd addition is any good and the group decides they would enjoy the new content, than I am willing to consider the possibility of conversion.

Maps] I will be using google for map content and icon display.

Stats: Use the (20) point buy with no stat lower than an 8 before racial adjustments.

Races: All pathfinder base races, which include Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-elf, Halfling, Half-orc, and Human, are acceptable.

Other races: Other races, which will include Aasimar, Catfolk, Fetchling, Ifrit, Oread, Ratfolk, Sylph Tengu, Tiefling, and Undine will be considered with a Strong and well put together background. Note: These races will be considered very unique in my game. As such, reactions of npc’s and other players could make replaying these races extremely difficult.

Racial traits: Are acceptable as long as they are not third party.

Starting Wealth All characters will begin play with a flat (200 GP).

Traits: Because the campaign path is undeclared, no background traits will be included. Two non-background traits are acceptable with a third trait (optional) upon the selection of a drawback.

Background skills: Background skills are acceptable and encouraged as long as they fall in line with the characters background.

Quick reference items: The (Race) category within the characters profile should list | HP | AC | Intuitive | Perception | Speed | CMB | CMD | Saving throws|. The Class/levels line should include | Primary weapon stats | Spell availability.

Knowledge, Item identification, and appraise: I personally believe these skills belong independently to the character that has vested points into advancing them. That being the case, I intend to pass information onto the player through (PM) whenever possible and allow them to decide how much of their skill they wish to share with the group. (Optional) A player may state up front that they intend to share everything with the group. In this case I will post via spoiler any information that is not time sensitive. Other information, such as creature identification, will be specifically passed on as a (PM)

Combat Communication: While in combat, I will allow a single brief statement (one sentence or less) to be posted out of turn without affecting a character’s economy. This will allow some creature identification information to be passed on during critical combat moments. Alternatively: A player may forgo a move action and state whatever they like.

Sustos was a character I made long ago for a 20th level campaign. I'd like to submit his level 1 form along with alterations to his build. I'm going to start as a Healadin or Cleric. I'll start on the revision now. This sounds super interesting!

Crunch and background are all done, awaiting the once-over.

I took some time to look over your situation with this character. Its submission is fine assuming you have a level one beginning concept. I reviewed some of his previous sessions and I can understand how trying to jump into a level 20 character, without experiencing a personal history, could be a little difficult. Seeing the character develop from 1-20 should be a lot more rewarding.

I have actually decided (if it's not a problem) to give Dellan a drawback as well. I think the Sentimental drawback fits his personality well, and I've never had a character that used a drawback, so I'd like to try it out.

I took a look over the level 1 build and it looks like a solid start. I will require a background for Sustos with a history explaining his unique race (I'm presuming you may be currently working on this).

Please include his motivations, what god he follows and any history with that religion. Also include where in the world of Golarion he is now and any current ties he has to his temple (If any).

In addition: A solid visual description and a footnote on his personality would also be useful.

Let me know what you think and if I need to add anything more. I like the Egyptian/desert theme I landed on and I think I tied in the cave/cube event potential pretty well. Thanks again!

Ok, I looked everything over and decided that, without a doubt, the character concept is genuine. Frontline defensive crusader with the ability to heal if needed. A valued concept to any adventuring group with the added twist of a unique race. I have ZERO questions about the validity of character’s build.

Now, as fare as Sustos's history. I feel like you put just enough food on the table for me to verify that I am hungry. I like what background you offered, but …….well…… I’m greedy and want more. So I am hoping that you won’t be offended if I ask some questions. Lots and lots of questions.

Here goes!

Questions:
Did grandmother have a name and is she still alive? Was she human or Oread? You stated that great beings existed on your family tree. Is his heritage a recessive gene? Is his parents dead or alive and are they human or Oread? You clearly described yourself with an appearance that is visually different than most humans. Did Sustos experience any difficulties do to this? Or was he easily accepted or even revered? I know that most dwarves, assuming you spent time with them, would have looked highly upon Sustos. Those that embrace Torage would have genuinely found your heritage to be a blessing. Does Sustos have any current ties with a Temple of Torag, or is he more of a free spirited adventurer who practices his faith on his own? Am I correct in assuming that his motivation, at this point, is to find out more about his heritage? Seeing how Sustos has only been in the capital city of Sothis for a few weeks, where did he grow up? Does he have any other family currently alive? You mentioned that you were heading out to seek information about ancient Shaitans. Am I correct in interpreting your intent of the word Shaitans to mean Demon or Devil? Or did you have a different intent?

I apologize for the onslaught of questions. I present these with only the best of intentions. If Sustos is selected, background is going to play a large role in the game. My intention is to create a campaign with a strong focus on depth. I feel that a strong understanding of a character’s background is critical in creating a level of emersion that will benefit everyone. I hope that this is acceptable.

No its not to late. We will be open for recruitment until 10/31/2018. That being said, this link is specifically for the role of healer. If your intentions is for Bevin to assume that role, then welcome. If not you may want to select the greatsword in the previous link, which takes you to the role of the warrior. If you are unsure what role the paladin falls in, you could also post in the link provided with the crate. That is a catch all non-class specific category.

Fantastic! This is exactly the type of push I needed to really start thinking about the details of this character. I’m going to answer your questions directly here and then add the answers into his background appropriately.

Answers:

His grandmother’s name is Queenola Jaafkair (being his father’s mother) and she is no longer alive having died when Sustos was in his early 20s (she was in her 90s. Though it was never confirmed to him or his family, the last time he saw her he was about 19, she simply has not been seen since.) She was a human and would have been a witch were she hero material, as it is she was a gypsy who dabbled with magic and alchemy.
Sustos is the only one of his family to be Oread since Queenola’s great-great-grandfather, Selthos, who was only just getting old when she was a child. This is where she learned of her and Sustos’ heritage. Selthos had been a great warrior in his day and originated from the deserts of Osirion, though that was not known of him. He didn’t have a family until he was older, in his 50s. He looked similar to Sustos with tan hair and coal eyes but his skin took on a darker tone like slate. That being said Oreads appear after several generations but it hasn’t been recorded in a way that’s easy to keep track of; so these two are the only ones known about currently.
Sustos grew up with his parents who knew of his heritage and knew what he was when he was born. They were respectable people within the village they grew up. I don’t know a ton about all of the areas in Golarian. I’m looking for a continental “warm summer” climate so somewhere in southern Varisia on the coast; maybe on the outskirts of Magnimar. I know it’s mostly human but there is some decent diversity allowing something like an Oread to live, after a while, without too much issue. I think. Although he was shunned at first by peers’ parents and he went through a short bout of bullying, that all ended when people realized he was kind but not to be trifled with.
I didn’t think about how the Dwarves would have reacted to his appearance but any praise given to him was taken humbly. This would have made his quest for knowledge easier as I’m sure the Dwarves would have been excited to teach someone like Sustos about their god and even more-so to have him join the ranks of their clergy. The years Sustos spent in the mountains with the dwarves were some of the best he’s had. He made friends easily and learned much through the clergy. He worked within a large temple to Torag and held many a sermon about the duties he and the congregation have to protect the earth and its inhabitants when they are in need. Your weapon is a tool to be used sparingly but without hesitation, you are a shield first and protect those around you. The Dwarves were the ones who bestowed him with the title Guardian. He never turned down an opportunity to help someone and intervened in many fights that were not his own; be it talking through domestic disputes, fending off mountain giants or giving the poor and hungry a meal and a bed. When he was called to move on Sustos did so with a heavy heart as he has made a good life in I can’t find the names of any of the Dwarven mountain cities, I unfortunately don’t have any of the books anymore but he knew this was not the place he would spend the rest of his life. As it is, Sustos does not tie himself to any particular temple anymore though he knows he will go back one day and visit for a long while when his quest is complete.
His current quest is in fact to find out more about his heritage which has brought him to his current locale. I use Shaitans as the Pathfinder appointed origin of Oreads. “Oreads are humans whose ancestry includes the touch of an elemental being of earth somewhere along the line, often that of a shaitan genie.

I hope this sates your hunger for now and I appreciate your questions. I had a lot of fun writing all this!

After looking over Bevin, I didn't see anything listed that would allow the character to heal. That being said, I realize that a paladin acquires healing as it progresses in level. Because of a paladins limited healing in lower levels, I wasn't sure if your intent was to submit him as a healer, or just to submit him as a general prospect. Ultimately, you are welcome in either case.

Indeed it did. Now I feel a lot more comfortable with Sustos's background. It explains a lot. In my world an oread would be considered very unique, but wouldn't necessarily be viewed as something ominous. Many of the locals of a city like Magnimar might find you fascinating, staring at you to the point that it makes you feel uncomfortable, but wouldn't likely consider you an immediate threat. (I.E. attempting to kill you on sight.) Magnimar, being a large city with a heavy influx of trade, would be a place that has seen many travelers. They would generally be more open to an Oread than a smaller, less diverse, human settlement. This statement, being a more generalized view, would't account for the the one offs, who have a limited knowledge of such things as an Oread. All in all, if you include the above information in your background I feel it clearly defines Sustos. Thank you for taking the time to work him out.

Female Vanara Phantom Blade Spiritualist Awaiting Recruitment!

"Eeeep, what a way to make an entrance!" You see a tall, white haired monkey, wearing robes which droop and sag on her bulky body who trips over herself and falls flat on her face. She looks visibly uncomfortable in her light armor, as you see two tails behind her trying to carefully pull her garments across her.

"Sorry to bust in like this! We sense great complexity here, fate has obviously ushered us together. Huh, eeeep? What's that...?", her eyes dart to the top left hand side of her vision, and then back down again, as if she is listening to something. Her tails swiftly come across to the forefront and grasp something translucent. Suddenly, a large scythe asperates into existence, made of vines and ferns which intertwine and congregate at the shaft in three large rings. Using her tails to hold it up, she continues. "It's true, Sympathy, our journey here has been prophesised by the Threefold Mistress. It's true, it's true! Can't you feel it my friend? We are here at last! Eeeep!"

Sorry to drop in like this, but i'm going to be working on this character specifics over the next few days. I've worked around with the build in the past, but would really like to play it properly. Aki is a Phantom Blade with a psythe who worships Magdh - The Eldest Three. She is a strong believer in fate, with a really strong connection to the fey and their lands. And yes, she is primarily a healer, who can hold her own in combat.

Edit- That is if you actually allow a Vanara in your game. She is very unique in that she didn't grow up with humans or the common races. She has an affinity for being an outcast but is very friendly and commonly accepting of others. Although she has a huge connection with the fey world, currently that is not her main priority as she is searching for her sisters who were taken away by poachers. She has a rather unique storyline, which I will work on writing up shortly.

I've switched Bevin's starting class to oracle so that he starts with healing spells. His primary class will still be paladin.

Also made some minor adjustments to his history.

Bevin blames himself for the actions of his curse, and believes he's just a talented cleric with a learning disability and inner demons of the philosophical variety.

Character build looks good.

Backstory is abandoned as a child, I’m guessing do to the mixed blood, and adopted. If the character is accepted into the game I will require more information on his geography. Specifically where in Golarion he grew up. Where he is now. A little history on his stepfather, like name and if he is still alive or dead, etc. I am assuming that he has little knowledge of his dark-blooded history so additional background in that area is not required. That being said, if you have something in mind with what happened behind his abandonment, then you should include that. Overall, it is a solid submission.
