It has no intelligence. It is hungry. It will not drop him. It will kill him.
The constrict damage is inflicted as soon as it wins the grapple. Its turn goes slam, grab, and if successful, constrict. Lather, rinse, repeat. When he stops struggling it will leave to digest him. It will not fight if it can leave. It's hungry, not suicidal.
