Hey Everyone,

I know things have been quiet for a while, but we are now getting ready to really start mobilizing the Online Pathfinder Society Community. I, along with the Online VO team, is happy to announce our very first Online Gameday for Play-by-Posts!

Now, you may be asking yourself “How does a gameday happen for Play-by-Posts? You can’t finish those in a day!” Our answer is this: any game registered with the Online VO team will have between Saturday, Oct. 5th, 2013 and Saturday, Jan. 4th, 2014 to complete their scenario. From our experiences with the community, most scenarios can easily be completed within 3 months.

What we currently need are GMs. GM registration is going to be open until Saturday, Sept. 21st, 2013. If you would like to GM, please make sure to fill out this GM Registration Form. After we have your information, we will create a table for you on our Warhorn, which we will be using to manage player sign-ups.

As we get tables all setup on Warhorn, players will be free to join tables. We will close player registration down by Wednesday, Oct. 2nd, 2013 in order to give us a couple of days to finalize the event details for players and GMs.

If you have any questions, please reply to this thread or e-mail us at PFSOnlineVOs AT gmail DOT com and we'll make sure to get you an answer.

We look forward to bringing you this gameday, as well as other VTT gamedays in the very near future. And always remember:

Explore, Report, Cooperate!

Sincerely,

The PFS Online Venture-Officer Team

Awesome!!

A quick question Joseph, can we both play AND GM?

Shadow Lodge

Sounds very interesting, I'll throw my name in, submitting for running RoW: Snows of Summer since I've already been running a non-PFS pbp of it, it shouldn't be terribly difficult for me to take up a PFS pbp version too! And judging by speed of my current pbp group, 3 months should be enough to run just the sanctioned section of Snows of Summer.

Also, because someone has to ask, prize support?

The Exchange 4/5

Can we both play AND GM?

Yes, of course.

Will there be prize support?

This is something I am working on. I cannot give details about this yet. I can say I will take care of the GMs and work with Mike to get them the support they need (like any VO would for a convention).

Can I run more than one PbP in this time period?

Any GM is allowed to run 2 separate games.

This sounds fun! Count me in. :)

Joseph, you might want to advertise this on the "Recruitment" forum as well. I know most PbP GMs and players look there rather than here, especially since the Online forum tends to be mostly Roll20/etc type game advertisements.

Question: Do we as GMs get preferential sign-up spots as a player in another game? ;)

Side thought bubble... do you think we could use this to run one of the convention specials? Maybe if a few GMs were interested in working together...

Sovereign Court

Does the play by post have to happen on any specific platform/site?

Does the play by post have to happen on any specific platform/site?

No. There is a space for the GM to fill out on what platform / website the PbP is happening. We need that so when players sign up, they know where their game is going to take place at.

2/5

I'd like to know if you have any preference for which scenarios we should run. I have had great success recruiting for Tier 1-5 games in the short time I've been on the boards, but I understand how it can be difficult to find higher-level games. PBP is just the format I'd be comfortable attempting to GM for a higher-level group.

Lantern Lodge 2/5

Just signed up to run 5-03 The Hellknights Feast and 03-03 The Ghenett Manor Guantlet. At least there will be some "higher" level play.

2/5

Nice! I understand that Tier 5-9 plays at least a bit dieerently that lower stuff, even the 3-7 modules.

I should be running Hellknight's Feast for a local gameday, so I can get a feel for the flavor.

I signed up to run a couple Season 2 classics: 02-03 The Rebel's Ransom and 02-21 The Dalsine Affair.

You were in my first Dalsine group, DaWay. I thought it was a fun one, and relatively quick, too (Of course, there were 7 of you which shortened the fights).

Grand Lodge 1/5

Hey Derek and Daway! I am looking to register too. Haven't been able to yet. Will try tonight! I want to run the Immortal Conundrum, Golden Serpent, or Green Market. They sound fun!

The Exchange 4/5

Thank you for the OVERWHELMING response so far. We have 24 GMs and counting. I will start posting these games up tomorrow, so GMs - be on the lookout for your table. And players, get ready to start signing up!

Will GMs be given the scenarios / modules they sign-up for in advance of the gameday?

Yes. I will submit the information to Mike Brock so he can support the PbP GMs and make sure any scenarios / modules will be added to their respective Paizo.com accounts.

Will there be prize support for this gameday?

I am happy to announce that there will be boons and prizes for this gameday! I will work with Mike to make sure this avenue of play gets the same level of support as your real world counterparts.

So please make sure we get GMs to sign up! Thanks everyone!

This is awesome news!

BTW Joseph, I was looking at the GM Sign-Up form earlier and it asks for a Warhorn username. I have to admit to never using Warhorn before, so where/how do I sign up for an account?

Hi Alice, It is https://warhorn.net/users/sign_up

Joseph, I am unfamiliar with how Warhorn works. Is it possible to participate in this gameday by continuing with one (or more...) of my current online groups? I am not sure I have enough time to take on another group.

Thanks Zoog! :)

I already have the two scenarios I would like to run. Any chance if getting paizo store credit instead? Pretty please? With a cherry on top.

Grand Lodge 1/5

I just signed up to run 03-10 The Immortal Conundrum and 03-24 The Golden Serpent. I am excited for this opportunity, as conventions are a whole ocean away! ^_^

Heh. Great minds think alike - I volunteered to run 'The Infernal Vault' for this Con a few hours ago ;-)

Just registered! Going to run #4-09 The Blakros Matrimony because it's still my most favourite experience in PFS to date. :) Put your roleplaying caps on, folks!

I'm thinking of running a second game, but I'm not sure what to run. Any suggestions? Requests? Perhaps one of the new Season 5 modules? #5-02 The Wardstone Patrol looks interesting.

The Exchange 4/5

Can I participate in this gameday by continuing with my current game?

No, this gameday is for games being being organized by the Online VO team that will start on Oct. 5th and end Jan. 3rd. Only games registered through our Warhorn will be eligible.

I have the scenarios / modules I signed up to GM. May I get store credit instead?

No, you will only receive product support for the games you sign-up to run.

I think what FurtiveZoog was trying to ask is more around the lines of... he has a table of people that he'd like to run a game for rather than having it be 'open admission' per se. Not that a currently existing game would be counted in the event.

I will definitely register to play - outstanding idea!

The Exchange 4/5

I would like to GM for my group and still have us participate in this gameday. Will that be a problem?

No, but the only caveat is that they must also sign-up through Warhorn. We are EXCLUSIVELY mustering through Warhorn for both players and GMs.

A note to all GMs.

The scenario / module / legal AP portion you have signed up to GM is now on the Warhorn. Please fill in your GM spaces as soon as you can. I will also e-mail this announcement to you guys ASAP.

A note to all PbP Players.

Sign-up to play! And remember, you can only play 1 character in one scenario / module / legal AP at a time. This means you CANNOT play a character in simultaneous sessions.

In case you forgot: SIGN UP HERE!!!

1/5

Is there a way to indicate that we are doing two tables of the same scenario?

The Exchange 4/5

Send me an e-mail at the one above so I can double check I added the correct amount of scenarios for you (include your login for Warhorn, PFS# please).

2/5

One other thing. I am only able to sign up as GM for one of my games. Is that because they are all booked in the same timeslot?

The Exchange 4/5

I am scheduled to GM 2 games, but Warhorn only allows me to sign-up for 1. What gives?

This is a limitation of Warhorn currently. I have sent off an e-mail to see if there is an easy workaround without having to make an individual slot for every session. I will post a notice here when the issue has been resolved.

Grand Lodge 1/5

Joseph, do I have to register twice to GM two games? This is my first time on Warhorn.

Grand Lodge 1/5

D'oh, ninja'd... :p

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything on the Warhorn for myself yet. This might also be because I only just now realised I have to "Register for an event" on that site as well. I feel like a total noob. ;)

Sovereign Court 5/5

I have registered for a game but I can't register for another game nor as a gm. Any way to resolve this?

Sovereign Court 5/5 5/5 ****

From the looks of things, all of the games are currently listed as being run in the same 'slot', so it is only possible to sign-up for one game.

One alternative would be to create of different 'slot' for every game, but as Mr Caubo indicated a few posts up-thread, he is currently asking whether there is an alternative to doing so, as that would be a bit unwieldly :-)

Dark Archive 2/5

So is there any way that we will know which game will be held on what website?

I don't want to sign up for a game a find out that its being played on Myth Weavers later on.

Sovereign Court 5/5

I volunteer to run the following:

05-04 The Stolen Heir
04-07 Severing Ties

The Exchange 4/5

Will there be any way to know which website the PbP games are hosted on?

Yes. I have collected that information from the GMs, I still need to figure out a good way to relay that information. Unfortunately, Warhorn has not rolled out the functionality of creating "Venues," as that would have been the perfect solution to that problem. I will post back where when I find a solution.

Sovereign Court 5/5

I could create the slot in question in warhorn.

Temporary fix I know. I could take each slot and just set a different slot for each if that's required.

Currently they're all listed in one slot.

The Exchange 4/5

I just tested it out and I know it works. It is just cumbersome and I would like there to be an easier way.

I've also thought about putting the registered username of the GM and the forum their PbP is going to take place of in the name of the scenario. That just sucks because I'm going to overload the list of scenarios I have to go through with so many names.

Shadow Lodge

Engine Idling, getting the table warmed up for some players.

I saw the additional changes. It's gonna be really tedious to keep putting up. I'll register as Gm once all the games are up.

Thank you for your hard work.

The Exchange 4/5

I am going to play around with this, but here is my proposed work around.

- I will create a separate slot for each game.
- The time of the slot will correspond to the level of the game. Ex: 1 AM - 5 AM is a level 1-5 game
- The name of the scenario will include the GM - Website. Ex: 04-07 - Severing Ties (nightdeath - RPG Geek)

This will take me about a day to do. I do not know how long Warhorn will take to get back to me, and I do not want to slow the momentum of this stellar game day because we couldn't get creative enough for this to work.

Thoughts?

I don't seem to have any events registered in Warhorn. I did fill out the GM Registration form under Helaman. Should I just create my own event or is there another event I should be tied into and need to chase someone on?

Edit: Sounds good Joseph.

I think that should work.

Again thanks Joseph for the work you're putting in.

Grand Lodge 1/5

Some times at some cons there is low demand for some particular games (maybe they are played out etc).

Question: If a table is not booked will the GM be allowed to change the adventure to get interested players in?

It may not be a bad idea to do a t minus 5 day check and see if there are tables lacking players but the community is hankering for different games.

Lantern Lodge 2/5

I just registered as a GM for one of my sessions but could not sign up to play in any others or GM my other scenario. I would like the opportunity to play one or two of my characters.

Shadow Lodge

@joseph - I've signed up to GM two Tier 1 games. My timeslots will still overlap, and I'l be 1) unable to register to GM both games, and 2) unable to sign up for any of the other Tier 1 games as a player. If I might recommend - I'd say 1 min. time slots, one per game, all non-overlapping.

The Exchange 4/5

Please give me until Saturday to resolve this issue. It is going to take me a couple of hours to get it all set up correctly. When complete, you will be able to sign up for multiple slots, whether GMing or playing.

Please be patient, as I have already been in contact with Warhorn and found that the workaround is the only way to handle the situation currently.

By Sunday, you should be able to sign up to play and GM games freely and without issue.
