Dear All You Magnificent PFS Piddlespotters--

I don't like you and you don't like me, but that doesn't mean that we can't have another awesome PaizoCon thread of Bloggery. In the past, we've detailed our games, our meets, our greets, and our beerings. There are some good memories stored up in the threads of yesterPFS:

2011 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery
2012 PFS PaizoCon Bloggery (w/Grand Convocation and massive Banquet spoilers)

You really should have your names/thoughts/games immortalized in this new thread...whether you're attending or not.

As most of you know, I believe PFS's core is a social community and so whether you can make it to Paizocon or not, I hope that you will participate.

For you attendees:

  • Post about whom you've met and where they are from.
  • Post about the games you're playing in, with whom, and fun details. (Avoid spoilers...and use spoiler tags if you're going to spoil!)
  • Post about extraPFSular activities.
  • Get others to share their feedback from PaizoCon.
  • Post links to pictures and media.
  • Post about neat characters you've played with.
  • Post any cool 'tricks' you've learned.
  • Post about the sessions and talks you've attended.
  • Post about how awesome your judges have been and what things they did well. Heck, even thank them.

For you non-attendees:

  • Tell us what sessions you want reports from;
  • Questions you want us to ask and to whom;
  • Things you want to know about;
  • Give lip/guff/sass to PFS board personalities you know (or don't...either way, sass is encouraged).

I, like usual, promise nothing...except that I'll be twisting some arms of people here to join me in describing their experience playing PFS this weekend and the people that make it happen.

-Pain

p.s.:
No Baird? No DougDoug (namedrop)? Maybe no DMoon? In a way, I'll miss them because they're like family.

In another more accurate way, they're yahoos that maybe I really don't need to see every year.

As this will be my first Paizocon, I will try (no promises) to provide some sort of participation in this thread.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

I've begun the trek to PaizoCon. I'm posting this from the counter of the Mangy Moose in Manteca, CA, which serves amazing breakfast. My steak and eggs are to die for.

The drive from Fresno to SeaTac is 916 miles. I'm breaking the trip up by staying in Medford, Oregon, tonight and again on my way home on the ninth. To further break up the trip, I will drop in at Mage's Realm in Sacramento today from 1-5 pm to run a game of Wrath of the Accursed for the Sacramemto crew.

I'm really looking forward to PaizoCon. I'm excited to meet so many folks I only know from these forums. I'm psyched about getting into Jason Bulmahn's "Wings of Ruin" game. I'm pumped to be able to dust off my retired Battle Oracle to play in the special with a fantastic group. I'm also looking forward to running The Waking Rune, which looks to be a ridiculously fun scenario.

I'm also excited because my brother, Tom, will be coming down from Vancouver to join me at the con on the sixth. Tom's not a gamer at all, but an independent artist who has worked on movies such as the Fifth Element, Final Fantasy Secret's Within, and Animatrix. He's also worked on video games such as Skate 1-3, SSX3 Tricky, and many more by EA and other companies. I'm looking forward to sharing my gaming world with him and he's looking forward to the various seminars. He'll visit Seattle and road trip home with me after the Con.

Anyway, if you see me around, feel free to say hi. The same for my brother. He doesn't plan to game, but I'd love to get him into one.

Your brother should pitch his portfolio to Goblinworks. :D

John and I made it and have settled into our room. Having spent last week deep in family mode, I'm glad to have a couple of days to catch up on things and get ready for the Con. See you soon, Will, and I promise to be on my best behavior if you introduce us to your brother.

Paizo customers and fans are one big, happy family!

For whatever happens to me this weekend (my first PaizoCon as well), I thank (blame?) Painlord. If not for his arm twisting, I would not have ever come to know the glories of PFS and so many great, new people.

Is it true? This PaizoCon will be without the infamous Vyle Bard? The tear jars weep with thirst.

I'll be at PFS HQ all weekend so come and see me to get your free Chris Brown-esque backhand compliments of yours truly!

Wrath of the Accursed completed. One player death and another... ahem... cursed. Sadly, both recovered afterwards.

The Sacramento program is insane: they are scheduling 22 tables of PFS, spread out over six days a week. The players and GM's are friendly and knowledgeable. Brent Holtsberry's done a great job getting things rolling and Rich Flynn's a beast for keeping this many balls in the air.

Back on the road.

Can't make it to PaizoCon, but I'll be checking back here for any sorts of news or spoilers or anything about Season 5 or the next version of the Guide or rules/policy updates and so forth.

Grand Lodge 4/5

Lots of stuff: Next version of the guide, the new 30 page resource for Society play, the fate of Zarta, lots of stuff.

I also want to get an idea of the percentage success rate on folks fighting ÜberKrüne! What percentage gets a gold star sticker, what percentage gets a red star sticker?

My flight leaves Thursday. I'm very excited. I've also got an INSANE amount of prep work still to do! But, that's what I get for subjecting myself to the craziness of Tier 1 GM'ing.

After playing very little last year, and only running one game (an impromptu table during the banquet), I wanted to see how things were from a different angle. I wanted to be head-deep in the PFS room, to experience the con from the volunteer POV. Doing a lot of convention organization myself, I figured it would be some great experience to see PaizoCon from that side of the fence this time.

Silver Crusade 4/5

So last year I waited on baited breath for any news from PaizoCon, using the threads provided from Master Painlord. It was last year's thread that got me fired up and as my 26th Birthday present, bought all the tickets, (planes and trains) to PaizoCon.. But in true cleric low-roll dice fashion... I rolled the dice at my job, got a "1" on my time off request and am scheduled to show up late on Thursday night.

I personally am known in my area, as the woman who is always running around during conventions and never in one place long enough to socialize in a personal manner. (This is unfortunately due to my many responsibilities as an organizer.) But for PaizoCon it is my one and single mission to instead sit back, relax, and just socialize as much as possible.

I know there are many who wish to meet me from the world of the forums, (although I don't know why) and in the same respect there are many whom I would love to sit and a cup of something with them as well. If you are one of those people, you can find me either in the PFS room on Friday and Sunday and in the Seminar hallways on Saturday. Any other time, you will find me at a cafe, bar, or restaurant. Don't hesitate to say hello!

I do plan to Photoblog, as that is a lot faster and easier to do from my phone than to post, but I promise to post at least once a day here. (Yay free Marriott Business Center for Rewards members!).. IF you want to keep up, feel free to check out my twitter account which I will be using all weekend long-- Lady Ophelia's Twitter Account

Till my arrival.. I will wait patiently while working Pathfinder Dispatch from my desk at The Heidmarch Manor, counting the seconds when I can travel through the Hao-Jin Tapestry to PaizoCon...

And Will and Josh, I look forward to seeing and sitting with both of you at tables this weekend!! It's going to be the highlights of my trip.. Hopefully Pain and I will get a chance to finally enjoy a cup of something together as well. But only time will tell..

I've started packing for the con ... there is so much I want to take... and I don't think I have a suitcase big enough. But, I found all my character minis -- which is good because I'd thought I'd lost my gnome fig.

I wonder if my largest suitcase is going to be large enough... cause zomg COOOONNNNNNNN

on a side note, this will be my first con where I haven't GM'd the whole thing.... while I have a packed schedule, none of it is behind the GM screen and only one official game. Should be interesting to see a convention from the other side of it all.

The Exchange 3/5

Been kicking around my schedule for PaizoCon, it's going to be something like this:

Schedule o' Pain:

Wed Afternoon: Arrive, Check in, Avoid PurpleFluffyBunnyKittenGnomes.
Wed Night: Hang. Eat food. Avoid PurpleFloozieBunnyKittenGnomes.

Thurs Morn: Eat, Gym, Hang. Avoid PurpleFluffyBityKittenGnolls.
Thurs Afternoon==>All Night: Big Kyle's Epic Party of Awesome. Really, read who's going to be there. It's going to be fun. All the beer and food I can stomach and a whole bunch of PFS and Non-PFS yahoos with which to speak. And fireworks. And I'm pretty smart about planning my...

...Fri Morning: NOTHING! Well, nothing except getting checked in. Check in opens at 7am and first games start at 8am. I've chosen to forgo first slot in exchange for sleeping in and a leisurely, stressless morning and getting my Reg packet when I'm ready. Also might crash the GM 101 session which might be run by two local Bay Area yahoos/VLs, Josh Archer and GM Verdigris.
Fri Afternoon: #4-09: Blakros Matrimony (Finally get to see the results of the Grand Convo last year). Avoid PlexplexedFluffyBunnyKiteGnomes.
Fri Night: GenCon Special pre-run: Siege of the Diamond City. Avoid PurpleFlunkyBunkyKittenDomes.

Sat Morn: Neo-Exodus: A Rose by Any Other Name. My first foray into Neo-Exodus. I think it will be a fun exploration.
Sat Afternoon: 4-13: Fortress of the Nail - We'll see what this is all about.
Sat Evening: PaizoCon Banquet - I wonder what surprises will be on hand this year.

Sun Morn: Pathfinder Adventure Card Game - I'm looking forward to this even though I'm only somewhat sure what it is. Avoid PurpleFlutyBoozyKittenGnotes.
Sun Afternoon: Go home.

Is it just me, or is everyone else also afraid of what FloozieBunny is packing for the Con?

I hate you all.*

*Okay, I don't hate any of you. Jealousy over y'all making it to PaizoCon this year - and me not being able to - made me say that. I have no choice but to game vicariously through each of you. Have a great convention!

3/5

So you're doing this again, Pain.

As I did last year, I'll take a shot at doing a PaizoCon blog in-character. I'll put all the out-of-character sass in this thread.

I won't be there till Friday, though, since tomorrow is kind of a holiday and stuff. I still haven't picked out which PC I'm playing for the Special, either.

Which tier do you guys think is the best, as in most important to the story, tier?

Probably just a suitcase full of glitter.

Edit: Also I do not think it should count as a "Schedule o'Pain" if you are skipping the first slot to sleep in.

Silver Crusade 2/5

If anyone has spare time (heh), I would love to hear what the Goblinworks crew is up to.

Also, I'm on Team Glitter. If anyone manages to give Painlord a surprise glitter baptism and get a picture of it, I'll buy em a drink the next time we meet. Painlord, if you douse yourself in glitter, the offer stands.

I look forward to hearing these tales PFS members. I will miss PaizoCon (I think I have only missed one before... :(

Sheesh...I just think you're underestimating the amount of effort it will take to avoid FlunkyBunnies.

Wed 3pm PST: Grubbing in Hotel Lobby/Bar.

Travel notes:
The hotel is definitely within walking distance of SeaTac and it's possible you could walk it. However, it's up hill, it's quite nice/warm out, and there is a free shuttle that picks up from the 3rd floor of the parking garage. The entire trip took about 5 minutes.

Hotel notes:
I think this place might be very cut off from food...other than hotel food. Depending on your definition of walkable (and mine is fairly generous), it might be hard to run out between slots to get food. The nearest place is BurgerKing and that's still a hike. I'd like to think I'm wrong, but you might want to pack appropriately.

So yeah...just ordered a $14 Turkey Burger with sweet potato fries. It's fine, I'm eating it, but it's still at a high price point.

There is a coffee shop on premises, but haven't sampled. The gym is quality. I'll be exploring that tomorrow. The bar has lots of beers on tap and bottles (running $6-$8) and they serve some mixed drinks.

W.K. Nol3n just came in and we're chatting and reliving our adventures of yestercon.

Edit: Oh yay...found GM Verdigris too. And she has a car!! SCORE!

The Exchange 3/5

In case I haven't mentioned this before, Verdigris is one of my favoritist people in PFS. Not only did she take over and rock close to 200 tables of PFS at Kublacon, but she told me to make sure I ordered a piddlespotting refrigerator for my room (I did so immediately) and will be taking me out to get food for the week. (Did I mention she has a car?!)

So...I have new plans for food for the Convention

Key #1: Have friends better and smarter than you.
Key #2: Get a refrigerator.
Key #3: Leverage friendships to get ride to Safeway for food.
Key #4: Rejoice.

P.S. Majuba and Diedre just walked in with sacks of Safeway foods. They apparently took the 'light rail' one stop to the aforementioned Safeway. The only hard part was the walk back up the hill to the hotel.

For my notes, is that Safeway one stop south or north from the hotel?

Not sure, but considering Diedre picked up my booze for the weekend, I'm not gonna worry too much.

Scarab Sages

Enjoying the new hotel, having a Bloody Mary, hanging out with Painlord meeting new gamers coming in for PaizoCon. Majuba was just down, MonkPlayer ...

And Painlord still can't seem to figure out what to call me or how to type my name.

5/5

Got an earlier flight to Chaicago... good thing as all flights have been delayed by about 30 minutes and the original stop time was only 10 minutes. So currently encounsed in the United lounge munching on cheese and nuts and plotting the pouncing if a Painlord...... a beer for whomever can give me reliable room number information.

5/5

Stalking everyone walking in to hand out Goblin Brains!

And everyone should be sure to post a quick reply in the "Who's here?" thread: LINK

Wow. Good hang out session in the bar this afternoon.

Re-meeting: Pallius Crispus. Newly met: Monkplayer (Pensacola), Justin (Baton Rogue), Patrick (Alabama), Jezebelle (Dallas), Xot (Sacramento).

Pallius just uttered Baird's name in vain...the table laughed.

Agreed, awesome times in the bar with a whole bunch of people whose names I can't remember, including Majuba, Diedre, Painlord, Monkplayer, and W. Kristoph Nolen. I also had brunch with Xot, Majuba, Diedre, and Loch downtown.

I am looking forward to meeting more of my fellow Pathfinders!

Master Painlord, I've been doing that for years... But since I don't eat much at convention, I'll just be packing some fruit, snacks, coffee, tea, and oatmeal for breakfast. It's a shame I can't bring my electric hot pot on the plane otherwise, I would have Udon and tons of delicious soups.. But alas, TSA always blocking my plans.. Remind me when you are at PacifiCon, as I will be definitely be doing a mass food run. (And Verdgis won't be there :( )

While sitting at my desk in Pathfinder Dispatch at The Heidmarch Manor, I have been working on a very awesome adventure that I plan to playtest on Sunday night. It is primarily as a thank you gift to my writers on my latest project. I look forward to running it, as it's very high on the roleplay, and I know that there are many who long for some good fun times over drinks..

I do still have room. If interested, you Pathfinders know what to do.

The Exchange 3/5

Idaho is in the hotel: VC Clarence and VL Mark N just dropped by. Awesome.

A table of We Be Goblins is going off in a nearby room.

Xot says the steak in the restaurant was good and worth it. That lead to the Texas continent talking about knowing quality steaks...

WK N014N has ordered a Pizza Hut delivery...we're going to eat in the lobby. The genius of the iPhone app. Another solution to the food issue.

Majuba, WillJ, Clarence, & Everett argue about the length of EotTen and how to run it.

I'm here playing We Be Goblins with Moontech, Evilminion, Xot, Rusty, and Justin. It amazes me how I can play this module over and over again and still have fun. We have some newish players here at the table which is awesome.

Sweet. Some neat early conversations.

Watched WK Nol3n jump at the chance to chat with Paizo Guest Artist Ben Wootten. Kristoph, an aspiring artist, jumped on the chance to engage the New Zealander in trade talk.

Then the author of Pirate's Honor, Chris Jackson, strolled up and introduced himself. He and his wife are up from Trinidad where they live on a boat.

And PFS favorite Matt Goodall is also at the table.

Matt's Credits:

Nothing to sneeze at:

Pathfinder Module: Cult of the Ebon Destroyers
Pathfinder Society Scenario #2-20: Wrath of the Accursed
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dungeons of Golarion (Hollow Mountain)
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Lands of the Linnorm Kings (The Thanelands)
Pathfinder Adventure Path 50: Night of Frozen Shadows (Kalsgard Gazetter)
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dragon Empire Gazetter (Contributing Author)
Skull & Shackles Pathfinder Adventure Path #57: Tempest Rising
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Paths of Prestige (Golden Legionnaire, Gray Gardener, Green Faith Acolyte, Hellknight Signifer, Knight of Ozem, Lantern Bearer, Magaambyan Arcanist, Mammoth Rider, Noble Scion, Winter Witch)
Pathfinder Society Scenario #4-01: Rise of the Goblin Guild
Pathfinder Player Companion: People of the North (Contributing Author)
Reign of Winter Pathfinder Adventure Path #70: The Frozen Stars

Nice early conversations with some interesting contributors...however, because it's with fellow PFSers makes it dang sweet.

Goo-oo-oo--oo-ood morning, PaizoCon!
I did, in fact, have a little squee when Painlord called me over to the PaozoCon table and introduced me to Ben Wooten. He's long been a favorite artist of mine, and was absolutely thrilled to find that he was a guest for the Con.

I'm up bright and early, despite six Bloody Mary's and staying up far later than 14 days of travel through three different time zones ought to allow.
Now, breakfast has been had with the PurpleFluffy CatBunnyGnome and Ezekiel316. The buffet at the Marriott is only $15, including drinks, so it's been a good morning!

Yeah, there are times when I really need/like sleep and yesterday was one of them. I cleverly escaped being over FluffyBunnied and fled to bed while PCFKG was distracted by a shiny object.

Now, after a full sleep, at the gym. Probably the last chance to work out before Sunday and this workout area is pretty good for a hotel and the free lobby wifi extends down.

I played Goblinblood Dead with Matt at Gen Con last year. The funny thing was, while the GM was setting up, and before I knew who Matt was, I was speaking with the table about how much fun it had been to run Rise of the Goblin Guild 4 or 5 times. I'm glad I was so pumped about the scenario, because that could have been awkward. :)

Awesome. Hanging with the recently arrived Scott Young (VC - Some part of Canadia) and Mark N (VL Idaho). Brock is holding court at the bar.
