Sending Items Purchased home?

PaizoCon General Discussion

Silver Crusade

Greetings PaizoCon!

I am wondering, since I will be flying in, I won't be able to carry all the goodies I wish to buy from PaizoCon into my luggage. So I am wondering if it's okay, if I were able to buy it and pay for shipping home like I would a regular Paizo order, just only there instead of online?

Our point of sale system for the convention doesn't create orders for shipping.... but I'm pretty sure that everything Paizo is selling at the show will be available online following the con.

Just as a point of FYI to consider Lady Ophelia...
My wife and I are also flying in and we know that we'll be buying stuff too and also know it won't all fit in the return luggage. Our solution is we're bringing in our luggage a prepaid USPS slip that goes on one of their Link: "If it fits it ships" boxes. I think the cost depending on the box size is between $5-20 (for the slips). Also if I am not mistaken, the boxes themselves are free. You can buy the slip where you live and bring with you and get the box in Seattle. You can probably even leave the box (with label) with the hotel staff to hand to their carrier to get it sent off. That last part is a guess but I would check with the hotel first or else make sure you do all your shopping before Saturday so it could make it to a local post office - OR bribe someone local you trust with your paid merchandise from the CON.

Point of question Vic
If other individuals are in similar situations with enough demand, could Paizo have on hand some amount of the various size boxes if we provided our own prepaid slips and or also ensure they get delivered out with Monday's shipments from HQ?

That's really a Jeff question, but I'll point him at this...

My wife and I are also flying in, we decided just to bring an empty suitcase..

I'm prefacing my post in that we aren't doing checked baggage for the flight so bringing an empty suitcase isn't practical.

Because:
(mostly because I don't trust baggage handlers and I know what kind of people the airlines hires for jobs of that nature. Side rant: It is ridiculous how much an airline wants to charge per bag for checked baggage. And, with multiple connecting flights the odds increase to become separated from my checked baggage. I don't like being cranky when it happens that I have one pair of skivvies inside my carry-on expecting all the other pair to be there for checked but oops sorry Mr. Zantumal we sent your bag to Dallas by mistake. R-Bad =( Grrr!)
So we're limited to carry-on of one bag per individual. I'm guessing Lady Ophelia is thinking along the same lines of carry-on only.

With all that said, my wife and I could probably get away with one carry-on suitcase with clothes for the both of us for just a couple days and one empty to bring back stuff... but we can't.

As part of our vacation, (which we're flying in from Florida) we're also renting a car after the convention and taking the next four days to drive the west coast highway through the redwood forest and down to San Fran and fly back home to Florida from SFO.

Well I spoke to soon. My wife saw my post and asked me who was paying for am empty suitcase to be checked in. Apparently 'You are.' isn't a valid answer.

DOH! Sorry about that 1d8+1. In the grand scheme of things it is a valid answer, just not the one she was looking for. But whatever you do, don't tell her that.

Bzzzt ohhh - sorry Johnny the answer we were looking for was "What is, I'm sorry and you're right dear I didn't consider your feelings."

Seriously though - I think the prepaid is a good alternative so lets see what Jeff comes up with.

You guys might also check to see if the hotel has a postal service (some do). The Airport has a dropoff (not a full Post Office). Also there is a staffed FedEx express at the airport (though not open Sunday, so you'll have to drop off stuff on Saturday if you are leaving on Sunday).

Hi everyone! Sounds like a plan.. Thanks for all the input!

If you can send things off on Saturday or Monday, there's a post office branch next to the Tukwila light trail station (one stop away from the airport/hotel). Ask for the media mail rate—when I moved to Seattle, I was able to mail 30 lbs. of books for about $13 (the box is extra if you don't already have one).

I suggested that to my wife (since it was her idea for the prepaid slip and can get them where she works) and she said the post office eliminated that rate

The USPS hasn't eliminated Flat Rate Priority Mail (the service advertised in the "if it fits, it ships" advertisements), nor have they eliminated Media Mail rates.

USPS Postage Price Calculator

This URL will show the prices for Flat Rate Priority Mail (and the box dimensions), as well as allow you to calculate a price for Media Mail (for example, a 30 lb. box from Oregon to NY is only $15.12).

Media Mail Content Restrictions

I don't know that all USPS branches will have all Flat Rate boxes in stock, but both the services are very much alive, and they should have boxes.

Strictly speaking, Paizo's books don't qualify for Media Mail because they contain "advertising matter other than incidental announcements of books." (The full Media Mail spec is at http://pe.usps.com/cpim/ftp/manuals/dmm300/173.pdf.) You also can't use it for Flip-Mats, Map Packs, cards, tokens, minis, or even things like the GM screen. Offhand, I can't actually think of anything we produce that you legally *can* use it for.

(You might not get busted if you try to use it, but Paizo can't take that chance.)

Totally understandable. I understand that you guys can only do so much. I will just make sure to not pick up my subscription at con, I'll just have you guys send it to my house as always.

Thanks a bunch!

Because of the way the subscription schedule works this year, there actually won't be a subscription shipment to pick up at PaizoCon 2013. The June sub is too early and the July sub will be too far after.

Dang I was hoping to pick up me subs. there. Oh well, there should be other fun stuff there to buy!
