Which favored terrains?

Savage Tide Adventure Path

We are going to be playing savage tide ap and I want to know which planes we are going to do I know which to pick. I figure I'll take wherever we are at 3 but at 8th I want to pick my end game favored plane(so I can have the highest bonus on it). I'm thinking it'll be either hell or the abyss.

Also I'm assuming that for my 5th level FE I can choose Outsider(Evil) and be fine.

Read the AP and get all informations you may need.. metagaming at its best.

Silver Crusade

It actually turns out at the end that the whole AP is actually taking place in SeaWorld...

Quite the twist ending.

Sorry, but the information should come from your GM, he will decide how much upfront knowledge/character guiding will be allowed.

That said Outsider (evil) is always a safe choice for high level campaigns, GM will probably respond better if you keep terrain bonus non-abusive, if you think hell or the abyss might be appropriate you might want to find a rp justification to get those bonuses later.

Cheese always tastes better with proper RP.

Convince your GM to try this idea:

Still do not know whether its good.

While I normally agree with you Remco, we have a solid time crunch on our games, so we do hand wave much of the RP parts, not all, but quite a bit.

My back story will be linked to my eventual choice of a favored plane, as an agent of whichever plane was the reason for my father to be forced to leave Mordant Spire, and my father's death 2 years prior to the start of the AP.

There is a player's guide for each AP.

Not sure why you came to the boards asking us to cheat and metagame for you...?

I find it funny that you as well as others tell me to go read the guide, without thinking that maybe I had read it. After all it is the players guide for the ap and easily found with a search. The funny thing is there is no breakdown of classes and what to expect, but rather just some background info on the starting town of Sasserine. I have read the guide, cover to cover. It implies swashbuckling, and that's about it.

As for meta gaming, I am asking because in trying to build a backstory where my father was killed by some other planes creature, and trying to make it relevant to the AP, and my character choices in the future. I'm not asking for huge ap shattering spoilers, just a piece of info to help tie my character to the story. I would ask my DM, except he sleeps at night and I sleep during the day, and we won't communicate until game time tonight and I'd like to have my background written and emailed before bed.

If you aren't sure which favored enemy to pick try the Guide. They get Ranger Focus instead of Favored Enemy. With Ranger focus you can designate 1 enemy per day per 3 levels to get the +2 to hit and damage which increase at the same rate at Favored enemy. So no need to work about which favored enemy to pick.

What's nice though is you can then take the Horizon Walker to get more favored terrains which include planes. Once you have dominance in that terrain you treat everything native to it as your favored enemy using favored terrain bonus. On top of that it stacks with Ranger Focus. Guide Ranger 10/Horizon Walk 10 works quite nicely.

This is what I'd do if I wasn't sure what favored enemy to take. I don't get Favored Terran till 3rd so I feel it out in the game and pick the right one. Even if I'm wrong once I hit Horizon walker I get more Favored terrains and I'll be 10th level at earliest before I get Terrain Dominance.
