Gold rewards

Silver Crusade 5/5

I have a quick question concerning Rewards.

I am preparing to run a PFS scenario tomorrow evening. I noticed that as I am reading the text of the Scenario, that it said

Rewards: if the PCs do not fight X there are no rewards for act 2. If the PCs defeat X reward each Tier thusly:

Tier 1-2: give each player 4 gp
Tier 4-5: Give each player 4gp

On the Chronicle sheet, there is a spot marked “Max Gold”
And there is a corresponding reward for Tier 1-2 and Tier 4-5

I had assumed at the end of the scenario, if the PCs accomplished the Pathfinder mission, and achieved their objectives, going through a minimum of 3 combat encounters, that they got their rewards. I assumed their rewards were: 1) an experience point, 2) the gold amount listed on the Chronicle sheet by Tier, the prestige points they earned by successfully completing their faction missions, and any boons they earned in the adventure.

How does this “rewards” section of the Scenario fit in? Is this gold I give the PCs above and beyond the gold they get on their chronicle sheet?

Thanks

The rewards section of each part should add up to the Max gold in the Max Gold section. It is very possible for the group to miss some of the reward and therefore not get the Max gold, the GM should adjust the gold Given at the end to match what was actually found.

As Dragnmoon said these sections should add up to the total found for the sub-tier on the Chronicle.

In your 3 encounter example, they would only receive the gold for the sum of the 3 encounters and not the total listed on the Chronicle.

Dragnmon, Mark Garringer, thank you both for your answers and clearing up some of my confusion.

Also worth pointing this out.

Reward Creative Solutions

Sometimes during the course of a scenario, your players might surprise you with a creative solution to an encounter (or the entire scenario) that you didn’t see coming and that isn’t expressly covered in the scenario. If, for example, your players manage to roleplay their way through a combat and successfully accomplish the goal of that encounter without killing the antagonist, do not punish the PCs for their creativity. If that scene specifically calls for the PCs to receive gold piece rewards based on the gear collected from the combatants, instead allow the PCs to find a chest of gold (or something similar) that gives them the same rewards. Additionally, if they roleplayed past a bad guy who carries a specific potion or scroll they might be able to later purchase off their chronicle sheet, don’t cross that item off the sheet—instead, allow them to find it elsewhere as a reward for creatively solving the encounter without resorting to combat. Pathfinder Society Organized Play never wants to give the impression that the only way to solve a problem is to kill it—rewarding the creative use of skills and roleplay not only makes Society games that much more fun for the players, but it gives you, the GM, a level of flexibility in ensuring your players receive the rewards they are due.

Rewarding creative solutions does not allow you to award a PC more gold than the max gold listed on their Chronicle, however. The only thing that increases gold beyond that is a day job.
