I wasn't sure what to expect with this collection. A lot of rpg authors I can take em or leave em. However, I'm glad to say this antho was chock full of (mostly) pleasant surprises. There's a lot of variety running the gamut of SF and fantasy.
Standout tales were certainly Cunningham's Lorelei, Lowder's Unquiet Dreams, Kemp's Confession, Varen's Oaths of the Gods and the short but very enjoyable Three Impossible Things by Smedman. There were several others as well.
There are a few duds thrown in there. The Salvatore story isn't particularly noteworthy as are a few others but the good clearly outweighs the so-so.
Also as writers from the rpg field these stories are some great inspiration for adventures.
Overall I'd like to see more antho books in the Planet Stories line as this was a promising first.

Are these original short stories or ones that have been published elsewhere and are being reprinted in this collection?
Specifically, I'm wondering what Stackpole story it is, if it is indeed one that was published earlier.

Worlds of Their Own collects existing stories from a wide variety of sources (some of them very obscure). We'll post a contents list in the coming months.

Eric, going by the "massive" description and the higher price, is this going to be a trade paperback the same height/width as the other Planet Stories trade paperbacks, albeit with a higher pagecount?
Or is it going to be one of the larger size of trade paperbacks? (roughly the height/width of a typical hardcover, but softcover)
PS. This has to be the one that I'm most interested in for 2008, as Michael Stackpole is one of my favorite authors, hands down.

I've added the full author and story listing as well as the final cover image (if you don't see a person walking a fantastic landscape, reload your browser's image cache).
