Sweet

We can get them all in one case

I want to say I'll be getting the case bundle, but $519.98 is a hefty price tag. This set has got the translucent plastic I love, it's more environmental, and the figures we've seen so far have been leaps above the already impressive Heroes & Battles set, but $519.98...

If you try to add a case bundle and the rune giant, it doesn't think that you've added a standard case so won't let you complete the order. I was just checking to see the shipping costs, but I'm concerned that as the bundle is what subscribers are going to give it might cause problems when the orders go through...

I'm a big supporter of paizo's mini's, but at $25 a pop I wonder how long huge mini's will last. Also there is an error in the order text, "huge case" and "huge brick" seem to be mixed and mashed.

This bug is being fixed right now. Buying a case bundle or getting one through a subscription qualifies you to buy a Rune Giant.

Just confirming my understanding of the Pathfinders Battles Subscription. We're effectively down for 1 Case Bundle, correct? Just want to be sure I don't have to order anything separate.

Cool. Although, maybe I should put off my couple of summer trips for this. I noticed one thing here that always makes me laugh, cry or wonder aloud when I am on Amazon. I can PreOrder the Standard Case for $399.99 or the Huge Case for $119.99 or I can get both in the Case Bundle for (dun, dun, duh) the same price as the two of them together. Why don't companies realize that if you made it $517.98, they appear to lose two dollars, but will get several additional sales. Of course, when I see this with Amazon, the differences could probably be pennies.

Wow! I thought the retail prices were going to be high, but not this much. 24.99 for 1 huge blind mini!

Wizkids hosing the PF fans since they've cornered the market on plastic fantasy mini's. At this point I'm hoping WOTC gets thier s**t together and start producing minis again. At this rate you can either get every PFRPG product item in the Paizo catalog for one year or you can get a PF mini's case. Its only a matter of time before we price out the less financially able fans.

I'm sorry but for the quality diffence from the Heroclix mini's to these, the price bump is pretty significant especially when there is a decrease in mini per booster.

The standard booster contain "4 large, medium or small mini"'s need to be reworded as I find it hard to believe that some of these boosters will have 4 large minis. more like 1 large and 3 medium or small minis.

WoTC playtested their new minis game last year and are releasing them julyish. They'll be more pricey per mini, but are non random and come in smaller packs.

They do mention that RotRL boosters will each have exactly one large mini and three small or medium minis. It's right after the bit you quoted.

Whoa, the three cases I am signed up for in my subscription is gonna hurt!!

I guess I will have to hold off on my new PC.

I'm actually disappointed by the new packaging scheme. $2.99 for a single figure was a perfect impulse purchase price point. I don't see myself piling too many boosters on top of my weekly FLGS purchases at $15.99 a pop.

The price on the huge figures is over the top...and with so few unique figures I'm surprised they're a blind purchase.

As a casual collector I will likely buy one booster for the heck of it and pick and choose a few singles via the secondary market. If my FLGS puts their Rune Giants out at retail I may pick one of them up as well.

Osirion

Wow, look at that price! I feel sorry for all those Pathfinder Battles subscribers. Oh wait...

Yup feel sorry for people like me who are getting 3 case bundles and 3 promos, :S

Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I have very mixed feelings about this. I am a huge supporter of Pre-Painted Minis and I am so very happy that Paizo has created this line.

I have no vices and a decent income, so I don't feel remorse for the money I give up in pursuit of my plastic crack collection addiction. Until now. $500+ to get me the whole set is way too expensive! Perhaps this set should have been broken part into 2 different sets. Or better yet, unique minis like Scanderig, the mutant arm-ed Nualia, and the Sinspawn should all be part of an encounter pack as I will never use these minis.

Well, here's hoping that the high price tag doesn't tank the whole line. Maybe stick to releases of 30-40 minis to help keep the costs down, as I'm sure there are many that like to have complete collections of minis.

Anyways thanks for miniatures line. On the plus side I have already booked my plane ticket and hotel for GenCon in August, otherwise it would have been a real dilema on what to do :)

Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber; Pathfinder Card Game, Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Kor, I will be going to GenCon as well, so I'll see you there! And there was never a question of either, at least for me. I'll be doing both (buying my cases and going to the Con). Although I am fortunate that I will not have to pay for a plane ticket.

Speaking of GenCon, Erik, is this going to be out by then? And if yes, will subscribers be able to pick up their case(s) at the con?

The shipping and the customs I would have to pay for my subscription on this scares me. Can anyone recommend a European based retailer that sells complete cases with the promo Rune Giant? I checked amazon.co.uk but they don't seem to list them.

Hobbun wrote:

I think that question may have briefly stopped the hearts of a few staffers at Paizo. That would add a bit more logistics for them I would think.

But Paizo never fails to impress.

Pathfinder Comics Subscriber; Pathfinder Adventure Path, Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Whew, I knew this set was going to be expensive but... :(

I was hoping to be able to pick up two cases of this like I ended up doing with Heroes and Monsters but it looks like it's just going to be the one for me, which is a shame. I'm with the others for calling for future sets to be a bit smaller. With the goal being three sets a year this is just too high.

That being said, I am still very much looking forward to this set, all the previews look very cool (Goblin Commando in particular looks great), just hope the next lot will be a bit more forgiving on the wallet :p

1 person marked this as a favorite.

$500+ for a set is massively prohibitive. I realise this is aboutthe same price per figure as the previous set but still is waaay too much in one hit.

I was very keen to get this set as i am about to start running the AP but...not at this price for a full set. It'll be buying just a few specific singles for me.

Like others, I am glad Paizo do a miniature line, I'd like to see it continue, so i hope this doesnt cause the line problems, but I think this might have been a misstep to have the set this big/expensive.

In future , might i suggest sets cover only half the Number of figures ( say ap1-3, then a second set 4-6)

Paizo Charter Superscriber; Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber

This pricing is indeed prohibitive for me. Considering that it will probably cost at least another $50 in shipping and then 19% import tax, this will add up to close to $700. I'd like to get these miniatures, but I'm not ready to pay a sum like that. I have already played Rise of the Runelords, and a lot of figures are not that useful outside that AP, for example, I can't see really needing a $25 harridan mini. Anyway. too bad, but I'm out.

Paizo Superscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber

It will be interesting to see the effect. If individuals don't buy cases but pick up more singles and boosters it might just result in a shift of who purchases the cases from Wizkids. I'm also wondering how the huge cases will be received. That was the biggest pricing surprise to me.

The "one big hit" issue can be avoided by charging your credit card in advance via gift certificates (I took advantage of the quiet February and march to build up a bit of a buffer).

Yes, if the minis line ends up with 3 sets a year at this price, I'll likely be dropping out myself. I can take twice a year hits at that price, but 3 gets to be too hard on the wallet.

Paizo Superscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Deluxe Comics Subscriber

Has there been any statement about aiming for three sets a year? I thought there was vague mention of aiming for two releases per year, but I can't find that.

Just adding my voice to this. I was pleased with the previous set (though I purchased it at my FLGS for substantially less that what was available through the subscription.

Even with a similar level of discount, I can't justify the expense of the RotRL set. They look nice, and I will probably pick up a few singles though.

The pricing confuses me a bit. With a 15% Adventure Path subscription discount, $661.62 should come to $562.29, but the price listed is $519.98 -- not that I'm complaining, but where does the extra $42+ in savings come from?

Also, I think I may have incorrectly ordered. Looks like at one point I pre-ordered a standard booster case for RotRL and more recently subscribed to the PF Battles Minis line which placed a Case Bundle in pre-order.

To clarify, I want one bundle (one standard case, one huge case, 75% off one rune giant}, not two standards plus a huge case and the single premium. Does my Sidecart need to be adjusted?

The 661 is the price of everything put together. The 519 is the price paizo have chosen to sell it at as a discount for buying in bulk.

As for your ordering, it's probably worth posting in customer services as they're more likely to notice it there.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t notice that ‘every four months’ under the ongoing subscription, either. My experience, on what Paizo said at GenCon and on the boards, pointed at a couple of times a year.

But one who is ok with the pricing, this is good news to me. I just hope there is enough who is ok with the pricing to keep the mini line going strong.

Andoran

The comments Erik Mona has provided to me indicated that the minis would be twice yearly with new sets - but more often when encounter packs and other releases are taken into account. Obviously, a twice yearly schedule would accommodate a set near or about the start of the release of an Adventure Path, which I anticipate is NOT a concidence and ties into Paizo's established cross-support philosophy that has permeated nearly all of its product lines to date.

Whether this proves to be the case or not going forward depends on a number of issues -- not the least of which is the art orders, NPC details and monster details of what can be expected to be in an AP before it is even written. RotRL is a special case as Paizo uniquely knows exactly what is going to be in that AP, but going forward, Paizo will have had to have changed their workflow or they are unable to release a new mini set to robustly support an AP on or about the release of that new AP. The problem is one of lead times required by Wizkids.

If a set is released at or about the start of the release of a new AP, Paizo will have had to adjust their workflow and outline drafting for the AP to reflect "must include" feature monsters and at least some more key NPC description and race details than they have in the past. There is some indication that these changes in the pre-assigned details of an AP's content have alaready stated more than a year ago. Jade Regent's outline, for example, included a list of "must include" magic items to AP authors so that the Jade Regent Item Deck could be more useful and accurate than Item Decks have been in the past. My understanding is that this practice has continued -- and my GUESS is that it has been expended to accommodate the realities of supporting an AP with pre-painted minis.

While a lot of these practical concerns are sort of "inside baseball" stuff to most customers, the point to take away is that in terms of scheduling and how the content of an AP is decided, there will have had to be changes within Paizo's established workflow to permit the direct support of minis for an AP line near its release date due to the lead time that Wizkids requires to model, prototype, manufacture, ship and distribute the miniature line to retailers. It's not impossible, but it does pose some significant changes in how Paizo and its AP authors develop an AP.

My guess is that Paizo is "pretty awesome" and that they are in the process of implementing/making these changes so that it can be done.

Andoran

Re: Huge minis and the cost of same.

I think it's worth bearing in mind that the only Huge mini we have had released to date in Pathfinder Battles is the Special Edition Huge Black Dragon.

I think we might all agree that the dragon is pretty awesome. I think it is among the finest -- if not the finest -- pre-painted miniature yet made.

Going forward, if the quality of the Huge Minis released for a mini set were to be seen as more akin to a "special limited edition" releases of Huge figures which recieve Cadillac treatment, it isn't reasonable to expect them at a Pinto price.

After all, we aren't expecting or paying for a Tri-horn Behemoth here. At that price, we are expecting limited edition kick-ass quality.

Provided the quality is there, we might come to accept that the Huge minis in the PFB line are the creme de la creme Special Editons which accompany a set, and are well worth our excitement and interest -- and perhaps even the cost.

Shadow Lodge

Can someone please confirm pricing after the "75% off premiums". I'd like to see if it's even worth it.
Cheers!

Karzoug mini is probably the worst mini I have ever seen. It is such a shame that so little effort came into a miniature of a boss of the first Paizo AP.

I agree. First time I saw it, I was like: WTF's that green goo coming out of his robes?

While I can understand the positioning from a manufacturing and stability point of view, it completely ruins the otherwise passable mini.
Especially the color is crap - green robes and icky-green... whatever spell effect? Hopefully they change the color and give the bubbles another finish.

Second thing I noticed was the gesture he does with his left hand to get the spell-effect going... Jeez.

Glad I've got the Reaper Mini painted and ready to go.

While you might think that is the case that little effort went in to the Kerzoug mini, I could not disagree more. You might not like the aesthetics of the miniature, the paint job still rivals Kyra in my opinion from the Beginners box icon sets. There are many details in this picture that make me want to see more when it comes out.

I am not sure about the elemental effects but the overall paint job is superb and amazing. There are great details in there that are nothing short of amazing in a prepaint. the bubbles actaully look like bubbles. The gems on his face is highly detailed and stands out nicely. The flames are not overdone and the lines on the robe nice and sharp and colors crisp.

While one may not agree with the color choices, it is not our choice or yours rather, it is one that comes from being prepainted. If you want to choose the colors you can always repaint it :)

BTW Karzoug is not the boss from book one of Rise of the Runelords but the main overall boss from the entire AP. He is a lvl 21 NPC. :)

While I agree it IS a lot of money but you are not just paying for a set of miniatures. You are paying for multiple mini's that might get most of another set not to mention plenty of doubles and triples and in some case maybe even quadruples. :)

If you want a full set of mini's and that is it then you would be paying much much more then the cost of the case for them on the singles market. But at least you can pick and choose that way then.

I think that the cost is going to be tough but one I am going to try and finangle the money for as I am amazed at the detail of this set and am pleasantly surprised at the detail of these minis so far and the previews for this set are nothing short of the first one and even better!!

The big thing to remember is that DDM at the end was roughly the same size box for about the same price. The difference was what DDM considered a case was 12 boxes, and what WhizKids considers a case is 32 boxes. Also DDM guaranteed you wouldn't get a complete set in one case (it usually took 3-5) and WhizKids says you should get a full set. The biggest difference is the case mini, however since I have a local store that last week still had 3 H&M black dragons on the shelf fr $15 each, I am not worried about getting one.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Some of you have mentioned that they'd like to see future sets back down to the 30-40 sculpt range. Here's the issue: WizKids tells us that they way minis are bundled is directly tied to the number of sculpts in a set. So, they can do 30-to-40-figure sets packaged in single-figure boosters (like Heroes & Monsters), or they can do 60-figure sets packaged in multi-figure boosters like this. We persuaded them to use the first two sets to try both types out, and at this point, I think sales will likely dictate which format we'll prefer for future sets.

But go ahead and tell us which you'd prefer for future sets:

• 30-to-40-figure sets packaged in single-figure boosters like Heroes & Monsters
or
• 60-figure sets packaged in multi-figure boosters like this

(To be clear, 30-to-40-figure sets packaged in multi-figure boosters is not an option.)

2 people marked this as a favorite.

As a case subscriber, I prefer the Heroes & Monsters format, based on sticker-shock reasons alone.

I have the feeling the booster-pack buyers will prefer the multi-figure boosters, though.
