Sovereign Court

Hi there
i have pc going from ustalav to Osirion
they have embarked at Calpihas and will visit some ports before disembarking at Kerse, in Druma.
after that point i think the route should be via river either
1) to highhelm (and the 5 kings mountains) then on the sellen river to cassomir then ship to Absalom then ship to sothis)
or
2) river to macridi, then land route to hills at the borders with isger then river again to falcon's hollow.. river to almas then via ship to absalom and again ship to sothis

while the last 2 legs (cassomir > absalom > sothis or almas > absalom > sothis) are pretty clear to imagine, the travel from kerse to cassomir or kerse to almas are quite hard for me to gauge in terms of peril and duration

any suggestion ?
thanks in advance

here goes the text:

A shaman who chooses the life spirit as her spirit or wandering spirit gains the following ability: Channel (Su): The shaman can channel positive energy like a cleric, using her shaman level as her effective cleric level when determining the amount of damage healed (or dealt to undead) and the DC. The shaman can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 1 + her Charisma modifier.

does this power grants the shaman the necessary requisite to take channeling feats ? or not ?

thanks

Sovereign Court

It doesnt says wich action can prompt this.
Since the real short duration of this, i say move or swift or free
not standard... i hope

Battle Spirit (Su): A shaman surrounds herself with the spirit of battle. Allies within 30 feet of the shaman (including the shaman herself) receive a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and weapon damage rolls. At 8th level and again at 16th level, these bonuses increase by 1. The shaman can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. These rounds do not need to be consecutive.

let's say i have the monster A hit by a bestow curse, he fails the spell and the caster decide for the
50/50 chance to act
effect.

in his turn the monster rolls and it comes out that he can't do anything
in the players round someone triggers an opportunity attack in his range.
can he do the attack or since he is "doing nothing" this effect lasts until the start of his next round ?
so basically the effect is in effect for his round or for ALL the rounds until the cycle arrives back to him ?

thanks

hi there
the wording i need to clarify is this
"This spell causes tall grass, weeds, and other plants to wrap around creatures in the area of effect or those that enter the area. Creatures that fail their save gain the entangled condition. Creatures that make their save can move as normal, but those that remain in the area must save again at the end of your turn. Creatures that move into the area must save immediately."

so lets say i am the druid and my opponents are 4 orcs
initiative starts, i am aware of the orcs (i set up an ambush) they fail the perception check so are surprised
i can act (1 standard action) and cast the spell
they all roll ST. since they cant move (are surprised) at the end of my turn they need to save again ?

let's say they arent surprised, i am first anyway, cast the spell and it goes off
they need to save the first time as per spell descriptor, and then a second time in the same round again, since they cannot possibly move out of it before i end my turn ?

the mechanics after the first turn is clear enough. who is in the effect radius at the end of my turn rolls the ST (as anyone that enters).
but the first turn disconcert me

thanks for the input

what happens to an alchemist if the "opponents" take away from him his alchemist kit ?
he cant do anything ?
bombs ?
extracts ?
mutagens ?

imho is basically powerless

if i am a pack lord druid, level 2
i can have 2 animals, both of which are an animal using the table on the base rulebook page and each benefits from the animal companion table for the line "level 1" right ?

so for example, i take 2 wolves, both get:
2 hd, + 1 bab, same st (3/3/0), 2 skills, 1 feat, no other bonuses and link and share spell both

when i get to third level, i can raise one of them to the line 2 of the table (so he gets 3hd, +2 bab etcetera (The other stays as the line 1), or i can get another line 1 (2hd) animal that has the same characteristics of the first 2.

at fourth i can raise one up to line 3 and the second stays to 1, or both to 2 or get another at level 1, so i have effectively 4 at line 1 etcetc

each beast use the line 1 at start then adds the relevan animal abilities and then grows on it, minding that i can have a total number of LINE level equal to my druid level. (line level doesnt equate with HD levels of the animal)

i am right ?
thanks

hi there
if my 1st level bird (owl) gets weapon finesse as starting feat, it can use on both his attacks ? (bite and talons) or i need to take 2 times the feat one for the beak/bite and one for the talons ?
thanks

Sovereign Court

Hi there
it's correct to presume that the flying speed of native flying creatures like birds (and only birds, not dragons or other flying creatures) can be varied as the base land speed for the regular humanoid ?

standard move > base flying speed
full round move action > base flying speed x2, 3 or 4 (but depending on what ? at wich rate the birds fatigue ?)

thanks for any suggestion/clarification or pointing me to the rule about flying speed

Sovereign Court

Hi fellas
i have a question
in the sacred weapon description / war priest, there is this passage

"The weapon must have at least a +1 enhancement bonus before any other special abilities can be added."

it is intended that the warpriest can exchange an amount of +x of a specific power only after he uses a +1 of his enhancement allotment to the +1 bonus or that +1 can derive from other sources ?

for example if i have a longsword magic + 1 (that is an enhamcement bonus) or just a longsword + 1 masterwork (another enhancement bonus) can i use immediately from level 4 a quality (like flaming, cost 1) ?

what is true ?
thanks

Sovereign Court

hi there
i can assume that combat expertise can kick in only when you declare (as by rule) and execute the attack ?
and the AC modifier will kick in in that moment and until the start of your next round ?

i had this situation

player A, with initiative count 27 and a readyed action (melee attack)
npc b, with initiative count 30 and readyed action (witchfire ranged attack)

at count 30 the npc starts its attack (he is flying overhead and so Player A cant attack him at all)
i roll 2 times, hitting the ranged touch armor of the player A, that says "i am using combat expertise, since i am a fighter lvl 12, i have my AC raised by 7, dodge bonus, so my AC isnt 15 (and i could have hit him 2 times with my rolls) but 22, ending with 2 misses

i could have ruled anyway, the GM rules as he wants, but didnt knew exactly wich was the correct ruling.
so i am asking.
i could say he couldnt use combat expertise, since
1) he couldnt even attack them, hence his readyed action wasnt performable (the melee attack) and his CE was henceforth useless
2) a declaration of eventual full defense had to be done at his round, and not at mine, but since he was readying (but an attack and not a defense... ) he could act before me

any suggestions are appreciated

Hi there
i was reading the timeline (in Rule Of Fear) and it comes out that the palatinates were created in 4670.
At that age, Alpon was count (albeit a young one).
At the time of Carrion Crown, even setting it in 4710, Alpon is 40 years older. How old can him be ?
30 at the moment of the standing down and now 70 ?
some other idea ?

in the same book (RoF) there are 2 weird lines about the beast of lepistadt that can be useful for the setting of the age:

in the data line it says the beast was created by a doctor Moritz (in 4690):

Spoiler:
Quoting from the book "Dr. Henri Moritz, an outspoken champion of the people, is murdered by his secret creation, a monstrous amalgamation of corpses and monster parts given unnatural life. The terror goes on a rampage, killing numerous famed citizens and members of the ruling council in Lepidstadt. The monster comes to be known as the Beast of Lepidstadt."

in the vieland page, under the "the beast of lepistadt" the entry says:

Spoiler:
Quoting from the book: "The truth of the matter is quite different. Created by a younger,
angrier Alpon Caromarc to avenge him against those who stole his county from beneath him — the first being the creature’s supposed creator, Henri Mortiz—the flesh golem possesses near-human intellect and a naturally peaceful, if inquisitive, demeanor."

From this entry i get the Beast is the creature of Alpon Caromarc (already knew this ToTB). The beast it's said has been created by a YOUNGER alpon.. younger ?! 20 years after the creation of the palatinate ? from the idea above he should be around 50 years old..

Also Alpon is said in Alchemy Companion:

Spoiler:
Quoting: "A few of the university's faculty continue to practice
the forbidden techniques of homunculus creation and alteration in secret, but only the abdicated Count Alpon Caromarc whose powerful thirst for recognition at times overrules his desire for
privacy-is willing to teach these subjects"

In this passage is hinted a role of Alpon in the teachings at lepistadt (not a truth, but a hint).

This means Alpon has eventually done some lecture at the uni AFTER the palatinate creation ? but if he was so angry at the city (that was surely paramount in the palatinate creation) why he should do that after ?

SO i am thinking this

All in all, i see the palatinate date creation moved up to be completed in 4685, even if the movement started in the 4670.

Maybe vieland was the last one to "concede", and only after Alpon saw the other 2 going out violent OR there were diplomatic moves before the concession or whatever.

But that will move a bit the age of Alpon. He can be born in 4650 or something, being 40 at the moment in wich he concedes.

That means he is already a good to great alchemist, that can have done lectures or even been the dean of the university before Acciani and well known about homunculy and creations.
So when the Vieland starts to move up to its "revolution" (that can be 4670) Alpon can be the son of the previous count, and still studying.
THen he may inherit in 4680 after the death of his father and at 30 he has already got some "wind of change" from his 10 years in the university, before as student then as lecturer.
After 5 years in 4685 he jettisons his responsability both in uni and in county. And at this point the retired and bitter count begins to plot his "beastly" revenge on Moritz (that need to be a professor at Lepistadt university, maybe one of the fathers of the palatinate revolution, maybe a free spirited alchemist whose birth is in the bourgeoning class and that can could have been a friend of the younger Alpon in the class days). The beast birth can stay at 4690, and so the first death of Moritz then followed by the trail of blood of the beast escape and the tale can start from here

what do you think ?

Here is the description of the power

Shadow Well (Sp): At 9th level, you can use the Stealth skill even while being observed and without cover or concealment, as long as you are within 10 feet of a shadow other than your own. In addition, when within an area of darkness or dim light, as a standard action you may choose to switch places with a willing ally within 60 feet, who must also be in darkness or dim light.

situation

sorcerer A, fighter B (friend of the sorcerer) and FOE C

C surprise A, and puts at his back, threatening A with a knife at the neck
A surprised, B surprises

next round, C talks, (Loss of round)
A activate the power and asks B to swap his place

QUESTION 1 > being a SP, does this prompt an opportunity attack ?
i will say yes.

if this can go on, B swaps place with A
A has used his standard action
what can do B ?
does he loses his Standard action ?
or he can act (and being last in the round he can turn around and attack the FOE) ?

suggestions ?

Sovereign Court

Here is the text in the part i need a clarification for

Shadow Well (Sp): At 9th level, you can use the Stealth skill even while being observed and without cover or concealment, as long as you are within 10 feet of a shadow other than your own. In addition, when within an area of darkness or dim light, as a standard action you may choose to switch places with a willing ally within 60 feet, who must also be in darkness or dim light.

question

1) the sorcerer is in a position where he has an enemy at his back, threatening him with a weapon (not a grapple, but more a "graphic situation than a game situation) at his throat

he calls for the power his friend the fighter, that can see the situation

the opponent Initiative is higher than the sorcerer and the initiative order is

opponent (that moves from the shadow and put him in the position to threaten the sorcerer, cutting his throat for a small bleed damage)
the sorcerer is suprised
the fighter is surprised

the opponent waste his next round talking
the sorcerer calls his power (standard action) to swap the position with the fighter
the fighter accept and moves in

now
the fighter is in the same position as the sorcerer, but still has to do his move
can he attacks the opponent ?
does he draws an attack of opportunity at some point ?
does he waste his standard action to swap his place as his sorcerer does ?

any suggestion ?

Sovereign Court

Hi there. from what i understand, even if i have multiple attacks (useable with a full action) the grapple action is only a standard action.
so theorically i can only
1) attack the vampire with my usual attack. If i dont have the requisite feats, the vampire can attack me as AoO.
2) if i hit, in the same action, i can stard a grapple (my CMB vs vampire CMD).
if i get a hold, my action is over even if i have multiple attacks

then the vampire, in his turn, can use his fog power and escape my grapple.

so the question is.
it's possible to start the action, grapple the vampire and pin him so to impale him in the same round ?

i suspect not, so basically you can impale him only if

1) a multiple team gangs on the same vampire and has at least 2-3 members with an initiative above the vamp's one (so 1 grapple and the others pin and impale him)

i am wrong on something ?
thanks

Sovereign Court

lets say i have 2 characters
A > has unarmed combat feat (so he can attack in melee without provoking an opportunity action
B > a disarmed character, without that feat

A and B are engaged.
A moves out (normal movement action) so provoke an opportunity action from B
B attacks, but since he doesnt have the Imp.Un.Comb feat, he with his attack, usually provoke an opp. attack

How is the sequence ? in other words, can A attack in OPP/att B when he attacks him in OPP/att because A moves ?

so
A moves, B attacks him with opp attack, but since he dont have the feat, A can do an opp attack to B before B does his one ?

Sovereign Court

a quick question
if i have say a cleric/inquisitor of the right level, can i cast

- prayer
then
- wrath
then
- spiritual weapon

and use the buffs provided on my BAB to the spiritual weapon attacks ?
that is, do the spiritual weapon gets only my BAB or if it get buffed, can it receive the buffs i receive ?
(that's also for other buffs present at the moment of the casting, like the bard song and similar ?)

i rather say no, but i am not convinced
any ruling on this ?
thanks

Sovereign Court

Hi all
i opened this thread to understand how is the common behavior about getting PC resurrected in CC campaign.
First of all, the spell needs a 12 lvl cleric, and as far as i know, there is only the Pharasma priestess in Caliphas able to do this (but i can be missing something).

Ravengro, Lepistad, Ardis, not one single city has a 12 lvl cleric available, not mentioning costs and such.

so wondered what you did in your campaigns if a PC died

Sovereign Court

hi there
i was navigating in maps and Rule of Evil documents, looking a way to find if there was a "road" between ardis and the south (more precisely to thrushmoor).
i didnt found anything
there is someone out there that has a good idea on how the route can be ?
and the mileage/types of terrain ?

to me is just going south along the Senir river, then probably at the fork between the senir and the high senire there can be a village.
at that point is south through the hungry mountains (height ? passes ?)
down to Hyannis.
from there is down the danver river to rozenport and thrushmoor

the "unknown" part will be the hungry mountains..

Sovereign Court

hi there some doubts on the black tentacle spell

1) area of effect. if there are walls "in the middle" of the aoe, the tentacles continue to grow beyond the walls or stays inside the same room where has been cast ?

2) if a cretaure with initiative higher than the BT enters the area, the BT immediately attempt to grab it.
where does he stop if he is caught ? the first square entered ?
if the BT misses the attack, it can be repeated in the next square entered if it is in the aoe or is just 1 attack for each move action ?

3) assuming the above situation, that is a creature with higher INI enters the bt, is grappled, when it comes the round of the BT caster, the BT attacks the creature again ?

4) can a grappled priest use the (su) channeling power ?

5) if a creature frees itself from the BT grapple in its round, can he move for that round ? and if it can, it is immediately attacked when entering the first new square or since it's free, he can move is maximum allowable speed (and so probably come out from the BT aoe) ?

thanks in advance

Sovereign Court

Hello there

i am with this dilemma
the empowered version of the MM spell, gives out a
(1d4+1) x 1.5 frd (as usual)
That means i can have these 4 results

roll of 1 + 1 > 2 empowered x 1.5 > 3
roll of 2 + 1 > 3 empowered x 1.5 > 4,5 > 4
roll of 3 + 1 > 4 empowered x 1.5 > 6
roll of 4 + 1 > 5 empowered x 1.5 > 7.5 > 7

so i can have 3, 4, 6 and 7 (average 20, that is 5)

if i maximize i get 5 hp per missile, and that's the same result i get with the empowered (yes, i can have less than 5 rolling 1 and 2, but i can have more than that rolling 3 and 4)

why i should use a higher spell slot for the same average result and possibly even a better result ?

or i am wrong with my math ?

thanks

Hi there
just tried to understand the discoveries part of all the Alch. Archetypes and really cant figure how they work

The discoveries listed in the archetypes descriptions are

1) the only ones the archetype can choose from
or
2) an addenda to the base class discoveries ?

thanks (if someone can answer with an articulate answer, to give me more chances to understand i REALLY will appreciate it

thanks again

Sovereign Court

suppose we have a party with

1) druid with animal companion
2) summoner with eidolon
3) alchemist
4) monk
5) bard

the bard start using his "inspire courage"

1) all using weapons (including natural weapons) should be affected
but
is the eidolon able to "perceive" the bard song ?
and if the bard uses a "visual effect" only ? are all those in front of him affected by it ?

also
spells with hit requests (acid spray) are affected in the hit part of the process ? or since they are magical attacks they arent covered ?
the druid's wolf companion has his attacks enhanced by the bard bonus ?

are the alchemist bombs influenced by the song both in the hit and in the damage parts of the action ?

any clarification will be welcomed :)

Sovereign Court

Hi all, i am new of the game, was looking for some clarification

1) if an eidolon qualifies for a secondary attack (for example a serpentine form with tail attack), is this attack made at -5 right ?
and also, can be made the same round of the standard attack ?
if so, it can be done only using a full attack option ?
or can be part of the routine of a standard action ?

2) when an eidolon gains 1 evolution point, it has to be immediately spent.
since there are evolutions costing 3 or 4 points, is to be assumed that the evolutions can be resetted at any level, if the summoner wants it ?
example: i have a first level eidolon, 3 points spent to get
- 1 improved damage
- mount
- improved armor
when i get to second level, i get 1 evolution
if i want to get the limbs evolution (2 ev. points) i cant put the evolution gained aside until it's 3rd level, i need to shuffle them ?
so for example i keep improved damage (1) and improved armor (1) and get the limbs (2) ?
i am correct ? if not, can i have some clue about this ?

thanks in advance
