Background: Perhaps his natural skills and gifts were what attracted the attention from the Deep Darkness Beyond, perhaps his generally amoral attitude and behavior. No matter, the Ancient Ones from the Void speak to him now, and they teach him secrets, knowledge, and grant him power.

From a young age, Robert has had a way with words. He never spent much time “in trouble,” even when he was obviously at fault for things. His childhood friends often failed to realize he was taking advantage of them, or coercing them into performing his own chores. This all suited the callous, self-absorbed youth greatly.

Upon reaching his adulthood, he realized his skills with words, combined with his general good looks, could win him many things hard coin could not. Gifts from noble ladies. Attention from the pretty farmer’s daughter. Access to the “good stuff” at the top of the bar’s shelves. And hardly anything had to be actually paid for.

All that came to an abrupt end once Robert started forging letters of introduction and credit for himself. The lawkeepers of Talingrade do not take kindly to “outsiders” deflating their economy with false promises to pay, or especially to low-born scum taking it upon themselves to enjoin the upper class through deception.

Found out through his own arrogance (really, who would wear a borrowed suit of fine clothes to a noble’s ball, especially with a forged invitation), Robert was clapped in irons and shipped off to Bradenscar for his judgement and punishment.
