About Ciara Rosenwald

Backstory:
Ciara was a ‘raised’ by a human looking half-elf wizard who had collected creatures from around Golarion and the other spheres above for experimentation and in order to expand his knowledge. Her body still bears many of the scars across her back that he inflicted upon her, no matter what shape she takes. She was shunned by the other creatures that he kept within his tower due to her unnatural form and ability to change shape at will. The only person she was able to befriend was a sentient construct that too was captive in the tower, a Kolyaruts by the name of Albrecht who had first seen her arrive at the age of four, and then to be bound and chained deep within the tower. The two became friends as the girl grew, while Albrecht taught Ciara what he knew of the world and of their captor. She only possessed one thing beyond the tattered clothes she was allowed which was an old compass that puzzled Albrecht as to its true origins. During her time in that tower she heard and saw terrible acts committed by the wizard; the raising of the dead, family members killing each other, summoning of monsters from beyond. One time when the wizard was testing out her abilities to see if she could duplicate the racial gifts of other races and how it was achieved, he began ranting about her origins; screaming at her for being useless compared to her mother and being little more than a bastard half-breed. In the end he threw the battered ten year old girl back into her cell, cut and bleeding. After he’d left her to her misery her anger and pain had become filed to a point of pure rage which she let out in a gurgling cry which caught her latent psionic powers which had been developing all her life and she had simply thought the signs of such just something naturally part of the tower itself. The bars to her cell twisted and bend, her arms became wreathed in translucent flames and formed themselves into blades as she howled her suffering to the silent heavens before she collapsed into Albrecht’s arms. Her actions had been wild and uncontrolled but it had burst apart the magical defences of their dungeon and left them free of the now broken wards and shattered spells that had held them.

Now that he was free of his captivity Albrecht made haste through the tower to the wizards chambers and slew him as he slept, destroying his dark magic’s and leaving with Ciara. The Inevitable sought out lawful parents for the girl, someone to raise her as he could not. Ciara had little trust of humans at first as they all reminded her more so of the wizard than anything. And sadly after he left her with them, she never connected with her new family especially since they were unsettled by the fact that her features would sometimes differ from what they could remember and they just couldn’t understand her or why she didn’t trust them. After a few months she fled and vanished into the wider world, seeking out her friend. She grew up in the slums of one of the larger cities, living off her wits and abilities more than anything else.

While uncertain of her future and her destiny she was little more than a thief or street urchin for the most part. Stealing what she needed to survive and rarely getting caught in the act; to the point of living alone even with gangs of urchins seeking punishment upon anyone who wasn’t part of their gang. Eventually though as she tried to find better marks to ply her trade she encountered an elven woman by the name of Sapphire White who intrigued her, being different from many of the humans she’d seen about. The young fourteen year old watched her for months, trying to adopt her mannerisms and confidence as a way to amuse herself as she stole food or coin from wherever the elf went. It didn’t go unnoticed and one night when Ciara got too close she was caught and made to explain her actions. Impressed by the young girl, Sapphire took her under her wing and trained her in the use of weaponry and the like.

Together they were part of the Golarion Pathmasters for a few years before their adventures became their downfall and the group broke apart in flames and tragedy was all that remained. Following the death of Sapphire White, Ciara felt lost and alone. And her memories of abandonment when she was younger came back sharp and stinging. She had left the others after the funeral of Sapphire, paying her respects and bidding the others farewell before vanishing as it was one of the few things she was good at. Since then she’s worked where she can, often playing whatever role she needs too in order to survive. Bouncing from town to town, working in theatre under personas, or living in the relative safety of brothels. Her life had taken a rather hard and self-destructive turn in the years since she’d been a member of the Pathmasters. She cared little for others but now she cared even less for herself, and was becoming more distanced from the world around her. This continued till one morning she was returning to her lodgings after working a rough night as a barman in a nearby tavern when she discovered a letter waiting for her. The letter bore her actual name which concerned her but its contents bothered her even more. Now she travels towards Claes, in the hopes of rekindling something with the only people she may see as family.

Uncertainty of her birth and parentage has always plagued her thoughts and caused her to question her identity. Sometimes she even wakes at nights in fear due to nightmares of her time in the tower, much of which is now half forgotten. She has even begun to doubt that the Wizard is even dead, which she tells herself is madness.
