About Graghhh

background:

Graghhh has three sounds associated with the h's. They are all quite easily made by any humanoid in the shadow plane, but not so easily in the regular world. It is mostly an annoyance that almost no one speaks his name correctly.
Graghhh grew up as a miner and a rope artisan. He can make a rope from most any root, fibrous plant, or other sinewy item. He worked his childhood moving large blocks, heavy machinery and workers through tunnels, out of pits, into small holes and almost all by ropes and rope assisted machines and pulleys.
Although he is not stupid and has great charisma, Graghhh does not put his knowledge to good use all the time. He knows things, but doesn't always know how to use the information; therefore, he sometimes blunders through and/or succeeds at tasks by simple dumb-luck.
In that way, he is quite lucky. Graghhh manages to solve problems often in unintended ways.
He believes he is more wise than he actually is. He is about as knowledgeable as he believes, but not as wise. He sometimes misjudges his strength, believing he is stronger than he actually is.
On the other side, he often thinks he has less charm than he has. Maybe it's the eyes, or the smile, but he can often get others to do things for him without much reason to back it up.
He astonishes himself with some of his other actions. He doesn't realize how agile he is.
In essence, he under- or over-estimates most of his abilities.
Throughout his life he has been taken between the plane of shadow and the material plane. Everyone has not done so well with these shifts and may have affected his mind in the process.
Graghhh has a long line of strange characters in his family. It is believed that he comes from several of the earliest groups of dwellers in the land including The Early Ones, The Ancients, and The Nomadics No More as well as humans.
His family has moved between planes since at least one of the earliest Times of Division of the Races. Thus, Graghhh is a fetchling whose heritage comes from long ago in this very plane.
Graghhh is a fetchling, or as they call themselves, a Kayal, meaning shadow people. His family has been able to cross back and forth between the Shadow Plane and the Material Plane much more easily than most. However, he has been taken unwillingly between the two and at times has ended up being caught in strange ways almost between the two. This has resulted in a mental strain and has affected his perception of himself and the world around him. He doesn't always know his strengths or judge his surroundings accurately. His grandfather was a sailor, which was part of the reason his father became a miner, and a well-known one in the Shadow Plane. Miners there have become accustomed to working close to dragons and those who use magic and sorcery. Much of what is used in sailing in the Material plane is useful in the mines of the Shadow Plane.

1. Graghhh has been mentored directly by Mwuoqrrreg, who was himself apprenticed at the hand of the great Creeegaq, Graghhh's father, so indirectly, his mentor was his father, only being disallowed by the laws of the Miners to take his own son as an apprentice.
2. Graghhh is fetchling, or Kayal. He is from a particular region that refers to themselves as Ayal, more of a regional dialect than anything else, but speaks to who their ancestors were, being from more than just humans who were stuck on the Plane of Shadow and intermarried with other races. His family is a minority even among this group, having been able to travel more often between Planes. They are known as the Gnok-Ayalan. One of their biggest rivals is a rather large, yet secretive group of Kayal (the term Kayal more often applied to those who are like them, yet "others" or "outsiders" and those who are not thought of so fondly). This group is known as the Kayal bekayal avaan, but more often, Graghhh uses the shortened form, Baky'all, as a slight against them.
3. Grimpldoon, a Dwarf. Verashnateek, a thin man who is apparently never seen doing any work, yet always seems to have enough money and appears at the strangest times when friends might need his help. Odonthian, a catfolk, also a miner.
