Background:

Duran Vesik was always going to be a bit of an odd man. His parents were adventuring in Qadira when his mother was pregnant with him, although it was early in the pregnancy, so they did not know that their lives were not the only ones at stake. It was on this adventure where Duran’s mother almost perished from wounds that she had suffered during a battle with demons in the Meraz Desert.

Fortunately for her and the child she was unknowingly carrying, a phoenix was in the area, and it saw the dying woman. The legendary creature took pity on her and used its’ great power to heal her wounds and save her life. Duran’s mother was grateful to the phoenix for saving her life, but she and her husband came to the agreement that it was time to end their adventuring career and return home to Taldor, which turned out to be a timely agreement, as on the way home, Duran’s mother found out that she was pregnant and shortly after she returned home to Taldor, she gave birth to Duran.

At first, he seemed like a normal boy, a little spirited and adventurous, but nothing unusual for his age. It was as he got older that it became clearer that he was not like the everyone else. He possessed an unusual strength and vitality that made themselves apparent when his emotions were particularly high, he took a greater interest in learning about magical creatures than his actual studies, and he dressed strangely, favoring bright colors in his clothing. His mother theorized that she must have been pregnant with Duran when the phoenix saved her life and that its’ magic must have affected him somehow. But it was fine. Duran proved to be a charismatic young man, so even if people found him odd, they were at least willing to tolerate living with him.

However, that would change one day when a local home caught on fire with two children caught inside. Unable to idly stand by and allow the children to perish in the flames, Duran rushed in with no thought for his own safety and rescued the children. Miraculously, Duran escaped the flames with only a few wounds, as if he had some resistance to the fire. Many of the people in Duran’s village thought that he was a hero for what he did, but some were curious about how Duran was able to run into the flames and come out scarcely singed. They wondered if Duran didn’t have some secret infernal lineage that protected him, suspicions that only grew when the young man failed to explain why the fires didn’t burn him. One of these individuals became aggressive towards Duran, accusing his mother of sleeping with devils. This individual increasingly antagonistic towards Duran, until one night he confronted Duran in a drunken stupor, insulting his mother and threatening to light his home on fire to see if she shared his resistance to fire. Without thinking, Duran flew into a rage and started beating the man, striking him with such force that he killed him instantly.

As Duran cooled down, he realized what he had just done and quickly hid the body before running home and telling his parents about what had just happened while trying to keep himself from panicking. Duran’s mother told him about what had happened in Qadira and how the phoenix had healed her, which might be why he turned out the way he did. His parents then apologized for keeping this from him, wondering if this would not have happened if they had told him earlier. His father then gave him an old set of gear that he had kept from his days as an adventurer along with some gold that he had made during that time. He told Duran that he needed to flee from his village, as it would not be long before his murder would be discovered. Tearfully, Duran said farewell to his parents and ran, following the road toward no particular destination so long as it took him as far from the village as he could get.

Duran was now alone with no home to return to, but with the gold and gear that his father had given him, he refused to wallow in self-pity and allowed his adventurous spirit to lead him wherever it may across Golarion. Perhaps it might even lead him to find a phoenix.

Appearance and Personality:

Duran is a tall, muscular man with slightly tanned skin and hazel eyes.
His spirited personality can easily be seen in appearance, as he prefers to wear brightly colored clothes and keep his hair dyed in obviously unnatural colors.

In terms of personality, he is usually a friendly man, albeit a little quirky. He does have a tendency to act without thinking if he's in a situation where he thinks someone needs his help or if he is being provoked.

Role:

Duran serves as a frontline fighter, making use of Bloodrage and Power Attack to deal as much damage to the enemies as possible. When he obtains his spells, he will use what magic he has to buff himself and provide some healing to allies, although not enough to serve as a primary healer.
