As philosophies are discusses and the tools of torture toyed with, Kelvar is at least using his eyes well. In the south east corner of the room he finds a hidden door. It appears unlocked and when opened reveals the face of a young man, or even a boy who screams when his hiding spot is found out and pushes himself in the furthest part of the closet.
Carnadine |
"Aha! He's the one that needs to be here. C'mon boy. You're turn."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Bonuses for being strapped to the rack?
Kelvar Mylan |
Kelvar puts his axe away and steps back a bit, but still close enough to grab him if need be.
Carnadine |
Diplomacy to come to the rack? really!? lol
Carnadine is helpless. It's the only thing he could do. Worth a shot.
Rosemary Thorn |
Rose quickly frees Carnadine.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
"Oh my you poor child!" Rose exclaims. She approaches the closet and drops to one knee to be level with the boy.
"Come here darling. No one will hurt you." she holds out her arms like a concerned mother trying to comfort the scared child.
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12In case I need it. Although, I should think I could get a huge mod to bluff for being a lying sociopath XD
Kelvar Mylan |
"Do not worry. Tell us, how did you come to be here?"
Diplomacy (Aid Another): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
DM HolyWater |
not sure what you meant by a huge mod over and above your stats
"No, stay back! please..." He cowers into the corner and does not come out willingly and seems quite weak and powerless to resist. He has no weapons or anything to defend himself with but tries to put his hands between himself and the rest of you as if that could help.
Rosemary Thorn |
Rose drags the boy out. She is deceptively strong for her frame. She holds the boy on her hip, even if he struggles. STR: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Grapple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 If either are needed
"Now now, be a good boy, and tell us what you're doing here."
Carnadine |
After Carnadine and Rose strap the kid to the rack, Carnadine says to the kids, "I think we need to find out something about you, but we don't know what we're looking for. Once we know what we need to know, we can let you go. So, please tell me about yourself."
DM HolyWater |
"I, I, I'm Timeon. Squire to Sir Balin. Please no don't hurt me. I'll tell you everything." He is terrified of being put on the rack and though he tries to struggle he is no match for the rest of you.
"Please, I overheard when I was hiding that there are vicious metal cobras and a shrieker that will scream if there is light and the drowned men will rise and a secret door near some stairs..." he is almost crying by the time he blurts out what he knows.
Carnadine |
"Excellent Timeon. You're starting well." Carnadine encourages the boy and repeats the information that was said.
"Please continue. Explain who is Sir Balin and what you remember prior to being taken. Then, continue with what you overheard or saw while here."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 for improve attitude or +2=24 for gather information in half the time. OR -1=21 for Intimidate
Yzera Hykeph |
Still here. New work is draining my time and with Yzera being less social at this point, I figure I will let the nicer members of the party do the talking.
DM HolyWater |
thanks Yzera
"He is a knight of Aleria... We were just joining the search for the escaped prisoners when we were attacked by something and he was wounded and unconscious. I didn't see much of the battle. Please I'm just a squire and I told you everything that I overheard the man and woman speak of while I was hiding."
Sir Balin is a knight of the Alerion order and is personally famous for hunting followers of Asmodeus. Knights such as him played an instrumental part in each of your captures.
Kelvar Mylan |
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Frowning, Kelvar says, "Tell me of the Knights of Aleria, and what you know about the escaped prisoners."
Carnadine |
"Yes, yes. I'm familiar with that Sir Balin. Also, please describe the man and woman whom you overheard." Carnadine replies keeping his seething hatred contained.
Sir Balin of Karfeld personally captured Carnadine. The last thing he said to Carnadine was: “Mitra may forgive you yet for your lies. Talingarde will not.” Carnadine wants revenge!
Yzera Hykeph |
Yzera quietly listens to the discussion with the boy, after thinking, she moves forward.
How did you become a squire to this great knight? That sounds like an important position.
Carnadine |
Carnadine attempts to discern if there is anymore useful information that can be extracted from the boy.
Sense Motive take 10+5=15
Yzera Hykeph |
Where are you from? Why did your family think that becoming a knight will any more make you a man than becoming a cleric in the temple? Or a magistrate? Or a merchant? Or any of a number of other jobs?
She pauses before asking a few more questions.
Who was the woman? Who was the man? Why did they chase you?
DM HolyWater |
He tells an abrupt story, a devout family trying to gain the favour of Mitra. Sending their only son into service with hopes for an advantage for the boy in the future. He doesn't know why particularly they wanted him to become a knight but you know that knights have more chances to greatness.
He also doesn't know who the man or woman was but rough description could match Thorn and Tiadora. "I escaped when they weren't looking. I think they were going to hurt me so I ran down the stairs and hid in this room. I heard them speaking in this room and out in the hallway."
He doesn't seem particularly intelligent. The only immediate information he has told you are 'vicious metal cobras', 'screaming shreeker', 'a secret door near stairs', drowned men rising'.
Carnadine |
"Alright, I think the boy has told us all of his useful information. We should release him as per the lesson and move on.". Carnadine suggests.
Kelvar Mylan |
Waving Carnadine over, Kelvar whispers, "Should we let him live? He has seen our faces, and may be smart enough to escape and lead Mitrans to this place. We should leave no witnesses."
Carnadine |
Carnadine replies in a whisper, "remember the lesson. 'Cruelty is a tool not a pastime. Be ruthless to thy enemy but reward those who serve thee well.' The boy has served us well. We should reward him with his life and freedom."
Carnadine |
Carnadine frees the kid and tells him to run along.
Then, he starts looking for another way out.
Let's go! Perception take 20+2=22 to look
Kelvar Mylan |
Though not entirely convinced, Kelvar nods in agreement and joins the search for the way out of the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Rosemary Thorn |
Not sure that the boy is through with his usefulness, but trusting in the judgement of her party, Rose says nothing as the boy scuttles away.
Confident that they will find a way out she leans against the wall as Carnadine and and Kelvar searched.
"What do you think of all this Yzera? The cult and trials I mean. And perhaps." she nods at the two men searching the room.
