Amaya looks around, "No shoes." And then suddenly, the shopgirl's bored voice, "But I have undergarments picked out for the dresses." Amaya blushes a bit. Amaya, "ummm... thank you?"
"Go ahead, dear. At least for the black and the gold. See what you think. How they make you feel,...and I have something else for you as well." he hands her a velvet lined box in which the amethyst jewelry set in platinum is located (150gp value-tiara, earrings, necklace, bracelet, anklet).
Azhar smiles encouragingly, "I'd like to see how they look on you..." his eyes flit to the people around them, "with the dress, I mean."Gravlax d'Antonio |

"We are not going out and finding a random woman to judge which of us is the better kisser."
Gravlax laughs. "You must admit. A paladin would never do that."
He cocks his head to the side and purses his lips as he thinks. "I don't have cards," he admits. He looks out the window. "There's daylight yet. I could be back in a few with cards. Or I have marbles. Strip marbles?"
Gravlax's Landlandy
"Sounds nice. What's the rent on that one?"
He thinks for a minute. "The d'Onofrios? Or the Grazzolettas? Nice people, both of them, but a lot of ..." Color starts to drain from Gravlax's face. "...kids ... underfoot...." he finishes weakly.

Rev arrives with Janiven. They are probably the last. Janiven seems to be dressed in her working clothes. Rev too is in character.
Cassian smiles and nods at pretty much everyone, but his attention is far more focused on the environs. Looks like his usual paranoia, always expecting a knife from the dark, determined to get there first.

I have not been able to find anything that says the Ranger FE and FT ability bonuses do not stack. Again, it doesn't matter in this instance, but let me know in the future.
For those who happen to notice such things, Dentris is carrying a few more weapons than he was during the play. For those who know Azhar, however, he looks pretty normal. He appears fairly comfortable, enjoying the company and any offered hors d'oeuvre. Of course, the fact that he happens to be quite familiar with so many of the guests at the moment, doesn't hurt.

The room already contains some of the evening's guests. (Currently five people, the lord-mayor, two gentlemen both on the older side, and two ladies, one older, one in her mid-twenties.)
Dentris arrives, helping a much younger Tian woman out of the carriage. He removes his simple, travel worn cloak from around her shoulders, revealing a slender, but shapely figure that nicely fills out the simple black dress she wears. Her jewelry, a tiara, necklace, bracelet and anklet of amethysts set in platinum almost do her brilliantly exquisite eyes justice. Almost, but not quite. She would be stunning, were it not fairly obvious that she is quite likely trying to hide behind the large warrior mage feeling entirely too exposed. He greets those already there amicably, introducing himself and his lady friend confidently if not with aplomb.
Melilot enters rather offhandedly.
Accompanying her is Fiosa, the brunette halfling dressed in a gold dress that is fitted to her curves and a long slit in the skirt to allow movement.
Antonio arrives by covered carriage. He is dressed as Tybain Obeisan, Paladin of Aroden, and wears a lily of the valley on his tabard, as he did during the performance. His sword hangs at his side, and he helps his companion out of the carriage.
His companion is wearing a refined red and black dress, her features elegant, cheekbones high. Her heels give her a good inch or two on Antonio, but he does not seem to mind.
"Good evening, everyone."
Cassian arrives at the mayor's shindig on Calseinica's arm in blah blah blah even he doesn't care what he's wearing. Rygel appears to have a new vest, and Cassian is unarmed.
Rev arrives with Janiven. They are probably the last. Janiven seems to be dressed in her working clothes. Rev too is in character.
However, her weapons, along with any overnight bags anyone brought, were taken by the army of servants at the front door with a promise that "All of your belonging will be safely stored in the room picked out for you personally by the lord mayor."
SM 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 4 = 12 +4 FE
Shortly after Rev arrives, Robahl comes through the door with a tall, willowy blonde dressed in a green dress. The pairing of such a beauty with the dwarfish director would be comedic if not so sad. That pair is followed by Lady Delour escorted by a Adonis-sculpted man wearing just a gold bikini briefs. A pairing that makes Robahl and his lady look down-right normal.
The rotund mayor stands as the final pair makes it into the room and as he chimes a bell a few other guest come back to the banquet area from what looks to be interior gardens through doors to the north and south of the hall. Just as the mayor is about to welcome everyone, one final guest walks across the bridge. A tall, shapely red-head with pale aristocratic skin dressed in a skin tight blue shimmering gown cut almost to her waist in the front and a white fur of what appears to be a serpentine, wolf-headed creature with wing pulled around her shoulders.
There is a murmur among the women of the three couples that had been enjoying the gardens, surprise, intrigue. The lord-mayor, Aberian Arvanxi, stands up to his full five and a half foot height, "Welcome to my cornucopia." He motions to the five people in full costume, "My honored guests, the performers of the Six Trials of Larazod." There are a few enthusiastic claps, a few polite, and one absolutely perfunctory one from the man dressed in military garb with salt and pepper hair.
Lord Arvanxi motions to the table, a loud gong sounding. "The feast of the gluttonous wolf." As the guest sit themselves, an seeming army of footmen brings out the first course. A abundance of food consisting of beef marrow fritters, boiled side of axebeak, loach flavored with spices and sage, eels in jelly, and smoked fillet of giant gar set in jellied aspic. Each guest is offered a glass of "Jeggarian 4683".
From the menu cards, the mayor's cornucopia appears to be six courses long with an hour scheduled for each meal.
All of the checks in this post are separate checks.

She smiles, "Nothing to be sorry for, Cassian." A blush, "I mean, you would have told me if you were coming when I saw you yesterday," Her hand squeezes his, "After you walked me home." Deeper blush, "But I like to think about you, it makes me feel light inside."
She swallows, her breathing faster, her beautiful voice shaky, "That sounds... wonderful."

Calseinica looks at the man with absolute sincerity. "If you can get the measurements? In the same fabric as the shirt, please." She turns back to Cassian, "He's probably get to hot in a leather jacket." Brown eyes serious.
The man looks dubiously at the monkey he is supposed to measure, leaves, returns with a simple black jacket that fits Cassian's lean frame perfectly. In his other hand he is holding a tape measure and eyeing Rygel.
Gozran 16/Thesing
The maid bows, letting the pair in. "If you will please wait here," motioning to a comfortably decorated sitting room, "I will let Master Atenaar know that his presence has been requested." She closes the door as she leaves with another bow. Tarvi looks around, then starts shaking, which breaks into laughter that she is trying hard to suppress. When she catches her breath, she looks at Cassian, "Mother would be so jealous to have seen that."
"I am cautious of Ailyn's plans and I am wary of her ideas. However, her plan won out over my caution. But I did not disrespect in by disagreeing with her." He nods, polite, cold. "Be careful on your way home."
Fiosa
She thinks about that for a long time. Finally, she takes another sip of her coffee, "I'm glad that you don't have a vampire's heart, it was probably detrimental to your health." Then she smiles, "And there is no black there, only purple." Curiosity, "Why did you have a vampire's heart in your body?"
One of the few other people in the store, an older woman dressed in a elegant suit laughs softly under her breath at Azhar's stumbling over his tongue.
Amaya ducks back in, the process taking longer this time, leaving Azhar to his imagination at the sound of sliding fabric. Amaya comes back out in the gold dress, which looks just as fantastic on her. However the platinum settings clash with the dress.
She smiles, "Probably not."
One eyebrow raises, "Tell me how 'strip marbles' works."
Gravlax's Landlandy
"Thirty a month."
She smiles, "The Grazzolettas." She confirms. "And it will be nice to have a few less children." Her voice drops, low, [smaller]"I caught the oldest boy peeking in on the third floor." Her voice scandalized by cut with amusement.
Then she rolls her eyes, "And I'm pretty sure that pretty thing he is married to is pregnant, again." Shakes her head, "With that many, you'd think they know what causes it."
The third floor being the studio rooms she rents to woman, of course.

Gozran 14/snake hunt - round 3
Mathalen attempts to tumble over the fallen snake, both to grant and gain flanking on the only uninjured snake. (1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25) She easily tumbles past the snake before it can react to her lower defenses. However when she swings at the snake, the blow whiffs through the air harmlessly.
Amaya holds in her window space, ready to dodge in to flank or heal. "Much better, Azhar"
But perhaps she spoke to soon, maybe she distracted the large warrior, because the snake with evily glowing eyes dodges forward his fangs sinking deeply into Azhar's flesh. (Azhar takes 21 hp and DC 17 Fort save 1d20 + 5 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 5 - 1 = 25 and is not poisoned.) At which point Amaya does cast a healing spell on Azhar, her violet eyes promising a lecture on combat safety later. (Azhar heals 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 hit points.) The other snake dodges to Gravlax's far side, but even with flanking, both vipers miss.
"All right, Big Red. You and me." Azhar says as he and the large snake with the strange red markings circle each other looking for openings in each others defenses. However the grievous wound clearly paining the warrior, his heavy blade again screeches over the evil viper's scales.
Gravlax swings at the uninjured snake Mathalen is providing flanking for, his black blade sinking deeply into what is aparently a nerve on the creature as it twitches, gravely wounded.

She smiles back, The Grazzolettas are moving out this week, so anytime after that. Do you want to see it when they move out?"
The man takes a deep steadying breath, then in a flash carefully measures the monkey. Cassian is almost certain that his hands did not actually touch the fur. The man flutters off. Calseinica steps up next to him, looking at Cassian then at his reflection in the mirror. "Is it okay? Comfortable?"

She smiles, "Mother has a thing for anyone with a title in front of their name." The smile turns wicked, "Oh, she will definitely hear that you are welcome to call here." A pause, "Although I reserve the right to... embellish."
A little while, actually quite a short time, later, Mauro comes through the door. He smiles at Cassian, although there is a note of caution underlying it, then he bows to Tarvi. "I have to say, this is a more pleasent way of seeing you..." His voice trails off as he realizes he doesn't actually have a name to refer to Cassian by. "Are you calling in your marker or do you need help with something?"

Gozran 20 - feast of the gluttonous wolf
To the north of the banquet hall is the Pool of Honey. The room's walls are covered by thick, thorny hedges of primarily roses although a few more exotic flowers break through the foliage in places. In the center of the room is a ten by fifteen foot raised pool of thick, viscous golden honey.
To the south is the Jungle of Nectar. Dominating the center of that room is a sparkling fountain of clear water under a sky dome which shows the Wiscrani night sky. Eqidistantly around the pool are three large tropical trees, with an abundance of all sorts of tropical fruits on each of the branches: pineapple, mango, dragonfruit, papaya, jaboticaba, and a number that are absolutely foreign.
As the first course finishes (despite the masses of food still uneaten on platters on the table), the mayor invites you to relax in any of the gardens surrounding the banquet hall. As people break away from the table, small pockets of conversation start.
After speaking quietly to one of the servants, the Lord-Mayor Arvanxi approaches Antonio. In what seems to be a very natural move, but is obvious to those trained in social cues, Mathalen moves slightly to keep the paladin between her and the round man. With a broad smile, "Wonderful performance." Reaching for Antionio's hand to shake, "Really quite good." His voice drops a little, not carrying far, "Lovely companion you brought, but I do hope you will mingle with the other guests. You are one of the only Tybains to ever survive a production." While his voice is mild, the suggestion is clear.
An older, yet relatively attractive middle-aged woman wearing dark clothing and an elaborate silver thorn support under her white-silver hair approaches Rev with a polite smile. Quietly, so as to not draw extra attention or seem rude, she bows slightly. "Greetings, my name is Crosael."
As Crosael attempts to draw Rev into a conversation, the grizzled man in the stiff formal leather armor of the Chelish navy, looks at Janiven. "You don't look like one of the fool actors, what are you doing here?" With a cool smile Janiven looks the stiff man straight in the eye, "I was invited by one of the fool actors of course, General." She looks around, "What are you doing so far from your fleet? Carousing as sailor's do?"
There is a spark of something between anger and amusement on the man's face. "Performing my responsibilities, something a... mercenary," his tone searching slightly, but mostly sure, "knows little of."
The other older gentleman that had already been present when everyone arrives approaches Cassian and Calseinica. He to bows, although it is more perfunctory than they respectful one Crosael gave Rev. "Do I have the pleasure of addressing Ms. Calseinica Nymmis?" At her nod and curtsey, the old man smiles, not an entirely pleasant smile but, oddly, not at all lecherous. "I was not expecting you see you here, Ms. Nymmis."
Her voice, polite, musical, "It was a last minute decision on my part, Lord Oberigo." The old man nods, "It does not fit the image my son, and your brothers, painted of you." Something close to censure in his tone.
Azhar, meanwhile, is surrounded by the gaggle of women, which leaves their escorts looking amused, annoyed, and upset. In that order.
The red-head slinks up to Melilot, her eyes moving from the drab scarred costume to Fiosa's dress. "Your taste shows in a far more positive light in your companion's attire. Which shop did you acquire it in?"

She is smiling back up at him as he takes her into his arms, "They're fine. Maybe a little stiffer than I'm used to. But fine."
She gets lost looking up at him for a moment, then "I should put back on my clothes..."

Cassian Merro |
"No, no. The costume is fine as is. Just fine." He nods distractedly about the slip, clearly thinking much more about the costume.

"Afternoon, evening. Show them a good time. How much of a friend you are to the clan."
Cassian nods. "All right then. Good seeing you, Mr. Atenaar." The rogue prepares to leave, ready to head back and collect Janiven.

Azhar, meanwhile, is surrounded by the gaggle of women, which leaves their escorts looking amused, annoyed, and upset. In that order.
"Hello, Ladies. And why, might I ask, are you interested in this old man when there are such as Tybain, the Paladin of Aroden or Larazod, honored veteran of the Shadestar War?" he smiles in amusement, but casts a quick glance at his companion to see if his continued attention to others is causing her amusement, boredom or annoyance. He is trying to fit in, but not to the extant of putting off the one he brought to the dance, so to speak. "As you know, my name is Dentris and my most certainly more lovely companion here is Amaya." the slightest pause "and whom might we have the honor of sharing our presence with?" he looks at each expectantly...and does not overlook their escorts.
She is smiling back up at him as he takes her into his arms, "They're fine. Maybe a little stiffer than I'm used to. But fine."
She gets lost looking up at him for a moment, then "I should put back on my clothes..."
He takes in a rather longer sharp intake of breath at her words. He continues to hold her, trying to convey his feelings through the intervening space, "in another situation, I might respond that that is entirely unnecessary." he blinks and sighs, "unfortunately, if you wish to keep this garment in its best condition for the event, then I suppose you are probably right. I suppose we should inquire as to where we might get a set of shoes to match?" he looks around for the shop girl, unless he happens to meet the eyes of the older woman in the suit or anyone else in their immediate surroundings before doing so. If he does, he will ask them if they happen to know of the best place to go looking for the right foot wear.

Antonio smiles, and shakes the Lord-Mayor's hand. "Thank you, your grace, you are very kind."
"And your residence is lovely."
To Mathalen: "My dear, let us take in the flowers."
Antonio steers her (graciously) toward the north end of the banquet hall, the pool of honey, and the wall of roses. He speaks to her quietly.
Mathalen
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Mathalen turns to look at the rose walls as Gravlax talks to her. She turns her head back to respond.
A pause, then just quietly, but not secretly so. "It's all so lovely, but so... artificial. And controlled."

Her eyes briefly scan up and down the redhead. the scars would certainly look striking on you
"Kind of you to say." The alto voice hard to read, perhaps honest praise, maybe amusement. "It was your companion's attire whose designer I was interested in, but perhaps stopping by the theater would be a means to add to my wardrobe."

Amaya is not ignored, they all politely smile at her, before going back into their gaggling.

She takes the same number of dice as Gravlax. She follows his direction in spreading the marbles in the circle. "You first." Possibly because she needs to see him to know what to do. Right before he shoots, "So the winner gets a choice of clothes or a favor... or the favor is last?"
Not entirely sure how many marbles Gravlax took, but I figure we can do this as a Dex check DC 10 for one marble and one additionally marble for every 5 points you beat the DC by? Asks the person who has never played marbles :)
"So... you like the costume. Don't think it is a little heavy on the leather?" A pause, a growing smile, an absolutely innocent look playing over her features, "I guess that means I don't have to try on anything here."
Gozran 16/Thesing
"Cassian." The tone of one last thing, "I'll be sending the invitations to the main house tomorrow morning, first thing after sunup. It is common practice to send them to the main house and they ensure it goes out to all of the family members." He smiles, "Would you consider picking up Thesing's invitation after it has made its way to his home? It would look highly suspicious if I didn't invite him and he was to disappear."
Mouth dry, "Sounds like a plan." Ducking behind the curtain. And by the time she comes back out in her shapeless garb, Azhar has gotten the address of a place where matching shoes can be purchased.

Gozran 14/snake hunt - round 4
Mathalen bats the snake with the stick, this time hitting solidly both times, pummeling the creature into unconsciousness, if not true death.
"Thanks 'maya." Azhar grins. He seems to be enjoying himself. "This guys pretty tough." He swings his sword in a lazy-8, continuing to watch for his opening. Overconfident with its previous blow the large snake attacks casually and when Azhhar counters with a viscous strike, the snake's defenses are not good enough to defend against the blow that takes its head from its body.
The other snake continues its fruitless attack on Gravlax. When a quick glance determines the flanked snake is no longer a threat, his black blade cuts into the final snake, wounding it fatally.
A search of the basement reveals what was at one time a profitable alchol smuggling ring. The bodies of the two masterminds long dead, all that remains of one is the parts the snakes couldn't digest, the other is a wax mummy, the puncture marks of the large snake clear in his dead flesh.

Mouth dry, "Sounds like a plan." Ducking behind the curtain. And by the time she comes back out in her shapeless garb, Azhar has gotten the address of a place where matching shoes can be purchased.
While she is changing (if possible), Azhar pays for the two dresses. When she emerges, he is all grins and sunshine, "Shall we go find something suitable for your feet?"
Gozran 14/snake hunt - round 4
After searching the building and finding no other evidence of snakes in or around the surrounding area. Azhar turns to butchering the snakes, taking care to avoid the poisonous parts.

"No use letting good meat go to waste." he turns flashes Amaya a smile, gives her a wink and mumbles "not when it gives me an excuse to get invited over again, anyway." and after they discover the bottles of liquor, "I don't suppose you know what your dad likes to drink?"
They're large snakes (or medium sized anyway) plenty of meat to go around for anyone who wants some.
He looks over at Gravlax and Mathalen, "Thanks for having us on this little expedition. Don't suppose you have other places in mind?" he glances over at Amaya again, this time with the hint of a wry smile, "I don't think she thought very much of my idea to familiarize ourselves with how this place looks at night."

She glances at Fiosa to see if the other halfling intends to answer the woman's original question.

Gravlax has taken six marbles.
"All right," Gravlax says. He hands Mathalen a larger marble in her color, and says, "the shooter."
He takes his shooter, and ... 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
...barely manages to knock one of her marbles out of the ring. It rotates slowly, just edging over.
Gravlax 6 marbles, Mathalen 5
I've never really played marbles, either. But I've seen it done.
