Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |

Oh sorry, not reading carefully again... :-p Atol, I would gladly take out a line at your bank... Again...

GM_Chris |

I've updated the treasure sheet reflecting the purchases. I've marked Dyrant's crafting in yellow since he might never get around to it and the money can be used for his resurrection.

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

"No doubt they could teach him letters by reading that holy horticulture book of yours. What was it called? The Book of Common Scents?"
This is funny. But not quite as funny as how easy it is to raise and care for a child. I'll let GM Chris explain how much work Dr. Toffitt has just volunteered for.
...he rushes himself, breathing heavily before finally penetrating the Skie's back door.
Just WOW. Trying to avoid, uh, saying the every response I could make to that statement.

Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |

Notice that Toffitt hasn't committed to 24 hour care for the child. He just wants to keep close tabs during our current down time. However, if there were an NPC at one of the two temples who were able to foster him, that would probably be better than an unprotected orphanage.

Things that make you go hmmmmmm. #2
Hmmmm #1
Things that no longer make you go hmm have been removed. Yes, there are dead ends and random tangents listed here. This isn't a completely linear adventure.
- Unusual interest in Terrem Kharatys by beholder 2611
- Room with slaad where something magical was being built 5315
- Umber hulk and Maavu's warehouses
- Celeste (who began the adventure with you) shows up after attack and connects you with Splintershield. Is she missing or just out of town for a long time?
- Matching invisible tattoos on Finneas's face 5581 and Splintershield's face 7254 and now Terrem's.
- Splintershielf spoke of the smoking eye
- Erinyes doesn't kill you
- Half-orcs added to city guard
- Research of tattoo: It is called the Carcerian Sign for the prison plane of Carceri. Written in the margin of the text are just a few words: how and why and transdimensional equilibrium.8281
- Commune with Aralynn about mayor and Lord Vhalantru followed by dinner with them both 8290
- Taxes not being used for rebuilding Cauldron 8341
- Fire creature tries to kill Maavu during the tax speech riot 8411
- Minuta's board, hangout of the Alley Bashers, is burned to the ground by two fire elementals. The gang accuses the Last Laugh. 8455
- Star of Justice divination: "The priest who is not a priest asks two questions at a time for which there is not a single answer so it is only appropriate that he receive an answer that is not an answer. Evil summoned the creatures. Evil and greed and an unholy thirst for power so powerful it has even corrupted a paladin." 8548
- Commune with Aralynn about Alek, Cauldron, and Nidrama 9437
- Kaurophon:
"They call themselves the Cagewrights. They are the source of the unrest in your city. Their agents were involved in the kidnappings and thefts that plagued Cauldron. Yet I fear their true goals are much more sinister." "As for Cauldron, if the Cagewrights gain power on Occipitus then it can surely be bad news for the city. I don't know of their exact plans, but it has something to do with a planar ritual."9501
- The lich appears to have been studying the dark void at the center of the fire in order to tap its power. Several months of study has not yielded much except to note that anything living touching the nexus quickly dies (via level drain).10830
- Dyrant's examination of Finneas: Finneas glows with a variety of magics. His flaming eye has an obvious conjuration aura. However, his entire body has intermingled auras of abjuration, necromancy, and transmutation magic. Finneas appears connected to, or even possibly, merged with the plane of Occipitus. You suspect he might be able to influence this plane of existence with enough patience, practice, and perseverance. Finneas detects as evil, just the faintest amount, but there like a taint.[http://paizo.com/campaigns/ShackledCityPathfinderGMChris/gameplay&page=218#10895]10895[/url]
- Commune with Aralynn about Finneas 10913
- Ike Iverson, Church of Wee Jas, sends assassins. Speak with dead 10913
- Atol's commune about events 11058
- Star of Justice Divination 11101
- Letter in Church of Wee Jas:
As many have heard me say, the cages alone will not afford the completion of the ritual. The Cagewrights have built a matrix on which to support them, but due to the shortsightedness of the others, I have been left out of these discussions. You are my only ally amongst the Thirteen now. You must warn them that there is more hidden in the Soul Pillars that could prove of great import to their plans. What more is needed I cannot say, and so I continue to explore the mysteries of the Soul Pillars at great peril. Vittriss Bale grows ever more restless, and the insanity that lies frozen in Karran-Kural begins to stir. Yet I shall remain here until the end, in hope of unveiling the last of the weavers' hidden lore. Still, the risk is great. My price has doubled.
F. Abradius [see bottom of post]
11180
- Dead Stormblade
- Info on cage from Striders: "The cage is a focus for a ritual to establish a permanent portal between the Material Plane and Carceri. I see a fire giant. His name is Dugobras. He forged the cage. There was a cleric, Grehlia Cairnis, and three others who assisted him: Triel Eldurast, Skaven Umbermead, and Tarkilar. There is a connection between the cage and the sould pillars of Karran-Kural. Words float above the cage, "An ancient hate stolen from the souls of the dead, the cage is but the key to a greater evil."11376
Potential sources of information
- Aralynn - commune
- Star of Justice with Jenya
- Various merchants
- Various churches
- Various politicians
- Striders of Fharlanghn
- Library of Books collected from lava tube area 5272 Yes, I know you've tried, but I'm open to ideas.

And making this, I realized we never resolved Fetor Abradius being captured by the soul pillars before the dracolich.

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

Awesome. I love this stuff. Just not sure who the jerky "priest who is not a priest" is. I'm sure once Dyrant figures out who that is, the rest of these will fall like dominoes on a house of cards.

GM_Chris |

And one more tidbit:
Toffitt (and likely Dryant) settle in for some reading while others ponder the fate of Fetor. They discover that the Cagewrights were founded by demodands several centuries ago and charged with discovering a way to link the Material Plane with Carceri, providing the demodands with a near-endless source of prisoners and slaves for their needs. The Cagewrights believe that a ritual of planar junction fueled by a source of primal energy meshed with the souls of the Shackleborn can create a permanent portal between the Material Plane and Carceri.
The Cagewrights have maintained their secrecy by using lesser cults, such as the Ebon Triad, to do much of their work for them. The Cagewrights traditionally number at 26 members--13 leaders and 13 apprentices. In practice, the number of apprentices varies wildly, while the leaders remains constant. New leaders are selected from apprentices when necessary. Currently there are 18 members of the cult. Scanning through the notes of names you suspect, you find that Embril Aloustinai (Cleric of Wee Jas) is indeed a Cagewright. No one else shows up as a Cagewright.
There are some references to Lady Thifirane Rhiavadi and Lord Vhalantru, but it is unclear if they are Cagewrights or merely pawns. There is mention of a beholder and a list of Shackleborn, most notable among them is Terrem Kharatys and Finneas Glenn.

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

Flying back from Vancouver this day (after about 3 hours of city exploration). Will be safe and ahome this night. I will ponder upon Dyrant's researching plans.

GM_Chris |

I don't mean to delve very deeply or derail the campaign—mostly just want to confirm whether this is a location of note, and get a visual of his pursuer.
This worked out just fine. The book storyline is that one of the Striders is kidnapped and held by the Last Laugh. The Striders come to the party seeking help. They have a telepathic connection with their member so they can tell you the entire layout, almost like what Toffitt just did.

Well that's very tidy. One McGuffin please, wrapped up in a little bow.

Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |

Toffitt hits both times either way. Half-orc is still standing with or without the sneak.
It's an indication of how OP I must think Toffitt is that I didn't even bother adding in the flank bonus...

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

It was a quiet evening at the PaizoCon meet and greet before the fireworks started.
"Hi, I'm Chris."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Bryan (aka Finneas), but I'll probably forget your name tonight."
"Oh. I don't think you will since you know me as GM_Chris."
"Rand!!!
Still LOL at this. One of my fav moments at PCon.

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

:) Fun times! OH! And good luck with the current battle. Especially Atol. I like him better than Dryant, just like St. Cuthbert.
Trout! Don't you need to go play in some drag nets or something?! ;)
Yeah yeah yeah, I get it. Everyone loves Atol. Poor poor Dyrant. :(

Not satisfied with three down in one turn eh? Greedy.
Pfft! You should be thanking me! Look at all the headaches I saved you by taking them out nice and clean in the first round. Now you don't have to worry about them at all anymore!
Man...try to make a guy's job easier and he calls you greedy....

My posting rate will be slowed for the next few days as my wife's water has broken. Little Finn on the way. Hero Lab file for Finn emailed to GM Chris.

Thanks all. Mom and baby are healthy, we're all taking a much needed sleep break tonight. I'm too tired to post but I'm up to date on all threads, and not to worry, this shouldn't affect my ability to post as I'm normally in front of a computer for 12+ hours a day.
