Flanking is your friend... from E16 Gwen can provide flanking against T, T1, T2 and L, given the appropriate positioning. Pick your thug, gentlemen!

Rojerick Alandsson |

Rojerick unlimbers his shield and sword as he steps forward, toward the nearest thug. He changes his grip, exposing the flat of the blade to his enemy.

Rojerick's attack seems to have very little effect. Gwen barrels though the group to the nobleman's side. Bordan gives the thug in front of him a solid Glasgow Kiss, making the man reel back, but remain standing.
With the action turning violent, the leader snaps out of his fascination.

I guess they do. I saw that and I was just hoping that you didn't do massive stupid failures for nat 1s.
Naa, I'm not that cruel. Cheeky descriptions, but nothing mechanical ;)
Gwen meanwhile rounds on the wavering thug that Rojerick just hit, and forces her sword right through him.
T strikes back at Bordan atk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 DMG: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Borden fishes punching the lights out of the one he head butted.
1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 = 24 assuming there is that flanking Gwen was talking about.
1d3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6 with arcane strike.
My bard song doesn't grant bonus as it was a fascinate effect but I can change it as needed... But it's not needed here.

Rojerick Alandsson |

Scimitar Charge: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Rojerick charges the apparent leader, swinging his blade toward him in a quick circle. He shouts at the foe threatening the man. "Throw down your weapon and go home to your family, or I swear by the Dawnflower you will face the consequences! I do not wish to spill more blood here today."
full action charge,+2 to that attack, -2 to ac until next turn

Only one rioter left alive now and upright now, right?
Well, when you posted that it was two. Now it's one.
Rojerick charges into the leader swiping with his blade, and gives a good solid blow. The leader goes down, bleeding badly. Zero hitpoints, so not quite dead, or unconscious, but incapacitated.
Gwen?

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

I'm afraid that the staggered condition does not prevent AoOs, but if he's down and he tries to attack while prone he gets a -4 penalty and loses 1 hp, so... I'll take my chances
Gwen mutters a quick thankyou to Rojerick; throwing all cautiousness to the wind, she quickly goes around to take care of the last thug.
No fighting defensively this time. Gwen moves 20': f16-g16-g15-f14, and attacks T4

Yeah, that'll drop him. The leader, doesn't retaliate physically.
"Leave me the f!!# alone queen's man. I don't need help from the likes of you."
The noble stands "I, ah, thank you, that wasn't going to go well until you arrived. Here, take this. I thought it was what they were after at first. I'd gladly have given it them to be left alone."
With that he hands Gwen a purse that tinkles with coin, and turns and flees.
150 XP each and 5pp worth of coins to split between you.

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

"Would you look at that! We just saved his life and he doesn't even stop to introduce himself. Ah well, we'll better get out of here fast, we don't want the watch to find us here with this mess, do we? I suggest we get going guys!"
Back to finding Gwen's friend?

Gwen, wait! Here!
He orates a bit And lo! Though she was wounded grievously her spirit, great as any man, nay, greater than any warrior of eld, gave her strength to stand and fight on.
Cure light wound: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Just a quote I memorised from a saga, it helps focus the magic...

thats 5gp each, right?
Ever practical Borden searches the fallen workers... Not for coin but for booze. Any coins he gives to the survivor or if he is gone, the one he knocked out along with the 5gp he just earned... The booze, if any, he keeps.
Next time look for a way that doesn't include getting smart mouthed and threatening around armed and armoured warriors d#!!+ead - here's their money pouches plus some more coin for their coffins.

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

"Cool bro! I feel so much better, thank you. Let's go!"
5 pp = 50 gp iirc. Split between us four, that should be 12.5 gp each

No problem.
The rest of the journey to Gwen's friend passes easily. Korvosa seems quiet now. A little too quiet. There is no smell of bread on the air, and no bustle of women moving to collect water, or goods. None of the shops are open, and even the rougher taverns seem to be locked tight.
Guardsmen are seen often, but never alone. The sable company are to be seen flying above the rooftops far more than is normal.
At a small jewelers shop, it takes a good hard bang, rather that a knock to illicit any attention. Even then, it takes a few minutes and Gwen's voice to have the door opened and unlocked. Once it is, a halfling woman stands before you. Even entering her middle age she is attractive, with long blond hair, and a pretty smile. But she looks worried today, and bustles you inside to lock up behind you.
"Well, my dear, it's been a while since I saw you. What have you got for me to go with these swords?"

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

"Well hello dear, it's so nice to see a friendly face again, especially today! This place's gone crazy, ain't it? What the heck happened! Is it true what they say? The king's dead and the queen's got something to do with that?"
What's her name?

![]() |

"Ohh, it's a shop, I wonder what it sells!" thinks Roj....
"Well, it's true enough the King's dead. That was proclaimed proper like late last night. As to the queen having something to do with it. Who can say. I would be surprised if she didn't, but I'd not say she did. Now. I'm sure you lot didn't come here just for a chat. What do you really need?"
sorry, missed that! She's called Rilka.

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

"You're right of course Rilka... well, it just so happens that these friends of mine... oh but I'm such a lout! Guys, this lovely lady here is Rilka. Rilka, meet Brod... Borden, Rojerick and Basil. So, where was I? Right. It just so happens that these guys have something they might sell and something they would like appraised. So I thought, wait a minute, maybe Rilka could be interested, let's see if I can kill two birds with one stone and make them AND Rilka happy! Eh? Borden here has the merchandise, will you take a look?"

![]() |

Rilka smiles, "The city is in flames, and you are on the make. I'm glad it's something so mundane. I guess you didn't come by these by legitimate means? Oh well, at time like these that matters less. I wont be able to shift anything for a little while, I expect, but it should make tracing them a little harder too, so less chance of complications. Let me have a see, and I'll tell you what's what."
Pawing through the goods for a few minutes, Rilka splits them into two piles. I'm also assuming you've kept the oils and weapons back, as they could be useful.. The first has just the golden broach, and she ignores it for the moment.
"This little lot is quite a haul in itself. There's not many places in Korvosa you'd find a stash like this, and I happen to know the owner of this ring. He'll be very glad to buy it back. Even more so if he knows that the thief is dead and Emmah can rest in peace. I'll give you 1,300gp for this lot."
Turning to the broach, she picks it up and inspects it closely, sighing a little, then puts it back down. "This I will not touch. The Queen has put a price on this, returned, with a promise that no action will be taken against the one who returns it. That price is 1,000 gold. I would advise you take the offer. If you are found to have it, I dread to think what the queen would do."

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

Gwen approaches the counter and takes a puzzled look at the golden broach."So, the queen wants this, huh? Enough to put a price on it, mmmm... Must be important beyond its value in gold, must mean something... I wonder..."
She takes a few steps back and whispers to Borden:
"How did a lowlife like Lamm manage to get his hands on such a thing, eh? What do you think?"

Borden Read |

Kiddie thieves. Like flies, they can get in anywhere - swiped from a light fingered maid or something I'm thinkin'.
