Will the marshall still redeem vouchers.
My familiar is gonna cost 200
And a cloak of resist for 1000

Damoc Oberigo |

Sunphoenix, thanks for the second critique.
Ok. Some observations.
I can only assume you wish to make a utilitrian build for your spellcaster... as you are obviously not spell damage.
However, your utilitarian spells selection is... odd. You are not built to do damage so I would think you would have the really important utilitarian spells that are the staple of Transmutation... but you didn't take them.
1st Lvl - feather fall {Never discount how useful this spell is.. it can save lives. And its one of the few immediate action Vocal only spells!}
* magic weapon... but 'meh' not really a good buff spell when at this level every has a +1 weapon... and you can craft +1 weapons and armor for half market value.
- You also selected Silent Image twice.
2nd Lvl - Alter Self, Knock, Make Whole, Spider Climb
3rd Lvl - Gaseous Form, Flame Arrow, Haste, Keen Edge, Magic Weapon Greater, Slow , Water BreathingThose are all utilitarian spells... Very useful to the party.
Spell list modified. Feather fall was an eye opener. I hadn't looked at it since AD&D, and was laboring under the impression that it was self-only. I had to look up the AD&D version, which if anything is better than Pathfinder's. So much for my memory. Haste is a great favorite of mine. I had pared back the list to near dead minimum for my last post.
I didn't take everything you recommended. I felt I'd be top-loading the list too much and there were other spells I wanted too. Hopefully I can pick them up as we progress in the game.
As for your questions.. I thought I answered those...
You had. The board monster ate my first response and I was very sloppy indeed trying to recreate the post. My apologies. Thanks for the enhanced information though.
Ok.. we got Graxer in... Arianna, Damoc how would you like to be introduced?
I like the idea of Ashe going to the Academae for an enchanter for his armor and shield and told of a Ex-student Graduate who would do so. Lol..actually for half cost if you don't choose to charge me market price!
I like this idea very much. And, awed as he will be by your reputations, Damoc would be happy to craft for everyone at cost.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Damoc, are you planning on taking any Necromantic spells?
Cause if your not... why not take Necromancy as a opposition school and not Evocation? You actually have Evocation spells.. and to prepare them currently it costs you double the spell slots for that level.

Graxer Firebeard |

Damoc you have a lot of gold left to spend lol.. WBL for 6th level is 16k.. By my count you may have spent 4-5k so far.. I would suggest a headband of int +2(4k), a rod of lesser extend(3k)..

Asherick Whiteplume |

Oh Good.. I was a little worried! :)

Varrel |

Perhaps the money is for his 1/2 price self crafted armor?
He could make something nice for that amount at 1/2.
Graxer Firebeard |

I suppose he could.. He still limited by his caster level to +1 armor though.. I suppose he could take magical knack to get his caster laevel back and then he could do +2..

Asherick Whiteplume |

Glad your enjoying our tale Deriven! Keep watch... if we have an opening.. will let you know! :)

Damoc Oberigo |

I lost this post when it crashed on me yesterday.
Damoc, are you planning on taking any Necromantic spells?
Cause if your not... why not take Necromancy as a opposition school and not Evocation? You actually have Evocation spells.. and to prepare them currently it costs you double the spell slots for that level.
Already done!

Doh! I forgot to ask Megan about pre-game crafting and if she wanted to put a cap on it. Megan, do you have a ruling on this?
And magical knack is a really good idea. Also, I've been thinking about Ashe's comment on an object for an arcane bond. Both those would go a long way toward alleviating the self-nerf imposed by the ranger dip. One last adjustment for Damoc, and buy or craft a bit a bit more gear and he's ready.
I thank you all for your help.
And hit points -- 1d10 ⇒ 3, 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 6) = 15

Asherick Whiteplume |

Very cool Damoc. I don't think Megan will have any concerns about what you can craft... because at max if you spent ALL your 16k gold on any items the most expensive items you could possibly make would only be 32k gold. That's only a +4 weapon or up to the low end of Major items... and then only ONE item... and NOTHING else! So nothing you could make would outbalance the game as far as I can see.
Just a suggestion at some point you may...want to take at least one more level or Ranger to get your combat style.
Also.. I'd suggest switching to a full Longbow... as a ranger you are proficient with it, at second level Ranger you pick up your combat style and that a free feat... depending on where you go two-weapon {Longsword & Shortsword/Dagger} or ranged feats - which you DO NOT have to Qualify for!!! Damoc has a STR of 13... one more stat point and he has a +2 bonus. Your damage potential with a Mighty Composite longbow is higher than a crossbow... plus range and rate of fire is also better! Plus - that, in melee, that 14 strength will serve you well for your swordsman/mage motif!
Remember even when casting Ranged Touch spells into melee you STILL take that -4 to hit without PB Shot and Precise Shot. Yes, it is only against touch AC but it still a penalty. Though there are many spels that auto target ...like Magic Missile and the like that require no attack roll. But Disintegration.. the 'flagship' Transmutation spell does indeed require a Ranged touch attack as a ray.
Oh.. and when you switch your opposition schools you get the evocation 0 level spells and not the 0 level Necromantic spell.
For your Armor... as you have arcane armor training... ideally Mithril Brestplate +1 would be the best...counts as light armor for all purposes and Rangers are proficient in Medium Armor. So no Arcane Spell Failure rolls and no armor check penalties to attack rolls for non-proficiency. Cost would be 5,600gp {craft price}.
A more affordable would be Chain Shirt +2 {you don't need Mithril cause you don't take Arcane Spell Failure rolls for light armor anyways} for a price of 2,125gp {craft price}
A affordable sword would not likely be more than +2 [4,156gp {craft price}]. Some nice combinations could be Longsowrd +1, Ghost Touch; +1, Bane {Humans}; +1, Corrosive; or +1, Spellstoring [My personal Favorite for a Wizard spell caster - another spell for the day!].
EDIT: Darn minja'd again by Megan! :)

Not bad Ashe.
As a dedicated caster, +1 Mithral is a great AC booster (particularly if he casts first melee later.)
The thing you have to remember as an EK Damoc is you can CAST or fight in a round. Not both.
Often it is better to cast.
But if you use EK bonus feat and normal feats to qualify for Arcane Archer, 4 levels of that will let you SHOOT and arrow as part of a casting.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Not bad Ashe.
...The thing you have to remember as an EK Damoc is you can CAST or fight in a round. Not both.
...Except with your spellstoring Longsword...as you can immediately cast the stored spell {up to 3rd level} in it as a free action on hit in melee...{say like magic missile, lightning bolt, glitterdust, fireball sepia snake sigil...etc...}
Then cast another spell into the sword to store again!
Or...if you wanted to be particularly Extra 'cheeky' you could instead of your +1 Mithril Breastplate go for ...
Chain Shirt +1, Spellstoring for a price of 2,125gp {craft price}... and store another touch spell of up to 3rd level that is swift action cast on a touch attack or a melee attack on the creature that hit you. To note one can touch attack oneself to trigger a beneficial spell like Cure Serious wounds... or even shield! And save 3,475 gp ...to buy a crap-TON of scrolls of varying level!
And YOU do not have to be the one to cast the spell into either weapon or armor! ;)
For a wizard more spells is always a good thing!
Also remember you can scribe scrolls at 1/2 cost! If you go for the chain shirt armor you have 3,475gp left over to play with!!! Which means you can have as many utilitarian first levels spells on scrolls as you desire at the low cost of 12.5gp each at Caster Level 1! The best ones are those that don't depend upon level for their effect like... sleep, color spray, silent image {A great spell by the way when you expect and ambush... just create and illusion of your self walking out into the open where you expect the ambush and watch the foes revel themselves! LOL!}, charm person, floating disk, unseen servant, detect secret doors, detect undead...etc...
You can become Mr. "Box of Spells" for a low low prices and always be prepared with the proper amount of scrolls!
Most of my arcane caster carry two scrolls of each of those above spells suggested on scrolls...so VERY useful! And cheap!
ie. [ 2x sleep, 2x color spray, 2x silent image, 2x charm person, 2x floating disk, 2x unseen servant, 2x detect secret doors, 2x detect undead, 2x shield {stacks with your worn armor as it is a 'shield bonus'}, 2x magic missile ] = 250gp / CL 1st

Asherick Whiteplume |

Waiting on you Megan!

Asherick Whiteplume |

You are? Folks seemed to be getting on fine last time I looked. OK... (DM scampers off to check)
Eh ... I guess I see your point. I guess I'm just seeking confirmation that what I've already posted to set up the situation meets with your approval! :)

Varrel |

Ashe, any ideas for me?
My familiar is gonna cost 200gp.
I have 1000 to spend but will be able to cast in Breastplate next level.
Even with 1/2 craft cost I can't afford another +1 on my armor.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Well... looking at it a little closer...
I miscalculated. If Damoc is willing to enchant Magic Weapons and Armor for 'craft cost'... it is a bit cheaper. Remember... when you upgrade an existing magic armor or weapon from ...say +1 to +2... you only need to pay the additional cost difference of the enchantment minus how much you currently spent on the item's enchantment.
ie To raise +1 weapon to +2 costs 6,000 more [ 8,000 - 2,000gp {already spent on enchantment +1}.
But with Damoc doing it for us the price is half cost!
So upgrading a +1 set of armor to +2 is +3,000gp... but for us thats only 1,500gp!
If Varrel is low on cash Ashe...once he gets reimbursed can loan him the extra cash.
Eventually we will enchant out of our monetary reach even at half cost! hopefully we will have acquired more loot by then!
By the way...where is Damoc? I figured he was chomping at the bit to post!?!?

Varrel |

I am loath to enchant my chain shirt because I know I am gonna ditch it next level.
Maybe another pearl of power so I can use the SHIELD spell more often?
Feel free to post Damoc, the story is ready for you.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Yeah, don't do that... enchanting a set of armor your going to abandon soon is indeed wasteful.
Though you could still get the value out of it 'thematic-wise' if you take your armor to a divine caster to enchant and use your old armor as a sacrifice... for its value toward enchanting the new armor.
Divine casters enchant items in a 'thematically' different way than Arcane Casters... effectively... "Gods do not profit margin in such things." It's always a market value for them when getting the components suitable to enchant and new magical item. Its the 'value' of that sacrifice... not the sale price that matters to them. So clerics, in my opinion, usually only need to sacrifice items of sufficient value to their deity to enchant an items, be of devout faith and few transgressions and the item to-be-enchanted be of masterwork quality to enchant and new magical item. sort of a get over...but if their actions are every out of line with a deities ethos.. a magical item can just cease to work at the god's whim.
Not so with an arcane enchanted item... they always work once enchanted, but take Very specific components and reagents to enchant them. So the gold needed to enchant them is more specific than just, 'oh it has a market gold piece value of enough so it will do for enchanting a new item'.
Yep..waiting on you Damoc...lets get this moving!

Graxer Firebeard |

Just curious, but is this the normal play speed of the campaign?

Varrel |

A bit slower.
We are waiting on Damoc, then we can push to Ashe's, get our bard and resume normal play.

Asherick Whiteplume |

Got some bad news, my internet connect is no longer available on a regular basis. I'll still be posting but now it will be sporadic until I can actually afford to pay for re-normalizing my connection.
Sorry. I should be able to post once a day.

Varrel |

So I guess Una and Shakhan ARE in fact gone.
Well,
Melee is well and truly covered
Healing is sufficiently covered (wands of CLW are cheap)
Buffing is covered
Arcane is covered.
We have access to Fly via Damoc so ranged is less of an issue.
Infact MOST of our fights have been indoors.
Given those we have lost (Again) I am not opposed to Maddigan hoping in as well, he could simply be known to Ashe and Varrel from the Temple of Many.
The two of them have been there enough to have met the man.
I mention it mostly because Maddigan is an active poster and it would make the group large enough to not need to recruit again if we lose one. Plus looking at his avatars profile, he appears to be divine caster focused, possibly building for Holy Vindicator which is cool and not an area fully covered by anyone.
Just a thought.

Asherick Whiteplume |

I concur. Ashe's next level is bard followed imediatly by holy vindicator, but the overlap is minor. We could indeed use another divine caster and a regular poster would tie up our party needs for the forseeble future.

Varrel |

Well Ashe and I are cool.
There others are just as new.
Not to presume to speak for Megan but we have had a group of Six previously with no issues. And she generally allows the playing group to choose.
If she is cool with it I suggest you also be at Ashe's house. It will speed things up. With a missive for Ashe or something. ..

Deriven Firelion |

The background I had is he was sent to assist Ashe. He's part of Ashe's Circle.
Soon as Megan gives the ok, I'm going to assume Ashe called on one of his Circle Priests to provide assistance in protecting Korvosa.

Deriven Firelion |

If Megan gives the ok, I'm ready.
Just a little info on the build. This is a holy evoker build I've been looking to try. Since Graxer is set up to help heal, that will make this build even more viable. I'll leave the crafting to Damoc since he seems to be building in that direction. This guy is going to focus on bringing the holy pain to the enemies, while keeping the party healed up.
I picked up Reach Spell because I like to be able to drop a heal at range if people get spread out. Moving only 20 feet a round can be rough getting to people to heal. Not to mention provking AoOs while doing so (at least until I can burn grace spells).
Not sure how high level we'll get, but this build doesn't shine until higher level. It will be interesting to try it out and see how it does.

Varrel |

Well,
Graxer is actually pretty built for Melee Badassery.
2 handed weapon, 18 Str Heavy armor, RAGE.
He can help with condition relief just by being able to use wands of Remove x and Restoration.
No one really has to rely on being a healbot since Ashe, Graxer and Deriven can all use cure spells/wands.
Varrel can use a wand of Infernal Healing as a last resort.
But as you point out nobody can heal at range.
The reach heal is a cool trick I guess. A bit of overlap with Channeling.
A tip might be to look at the Human favored class bonus of +1 to SR vs outsiders. Haven't seen many yet but this is Paizo and a chelish ruled city. Devils are sure to feature somewhere.
Also Clerics of Iomedae can cast GOOD HOPE as a 4th level spell.
(Though since we are about to get a bard that is maybe moot. Having a bard means you as a cleric won't need to be a dedicated buffer or healer.)
Haven't seen an evoker cleric in a long time.
Nice to see where it goes.

Deriven Firelion |

Where did you find that Clerics of Iomedae can cast Good hope? That's a nice spell.
The reach spell is also not just for cures. At lower level cures are its main use. At higher level it is for buffs as well. I can Reach communal delay poison Reach remove blindness, Reach Communal Resist energy, and other such things. Lots of cleric spells work pretty well with Reach Spell. I like having the versatility of buffing a party spread across a battlefield without gathering them all in touch range if needed.
Though I have to admit it works a whole lot better when you're an oracle and can spontaneously use it.

Where did you find that Clerics of Iomedae can cast Good hope? That's a nice spell.
It's in Faith's of Purity.

Off to the local Ren Faire with my family and friends. Will get a post up this afternoon/evening.
Ahhh... the Ren fair! How I miss it. Tromping around in 75lbs of my double-Chainmail Hauberk in my thigh-length leather boots and leather gauntlets with helm, shield and sharpened broadsword proudly at my side... in 90+ degree temperatures for the whole day...
Good times... good memories... with good friends, no longer with me in life. Maybe someday I'll forget... and actually be able to enjoy such an excursion... without remembering them in grief.
Miss you Paul. Rest in peace man... and see you soon.. maybe.
