"Your warriors, Lann and Wenduag included, fought bravely against the cultists. We couldn't have done any of it without them." Ary notes, then smiles to Seer Opoli, "And several of them were wounded as well." she seemed a little in better spirits. Chief Sull seemed... like one of her bosses. Maybe some of the old crusades was still alive in the way these people had structured themselves. Maybe.

Ary grins at the old batman, "Lovely. Thanks. I feel good as new. I think we'll still be spending some time in your home until morning, though, if you'll have us. Then we'll be out of your hair." Fur? Same thing?

"You've done quite a bit for us already, but your offer is appreciated. We're just glad to have a safe place to rest after everything that's happened." Val inclines her head respectfully to the chief. "Would you mind us using your baths again? I feel like I need to get clean after meeting those demons."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Chief Sull chuckles at Valaria. "That's an easy request. Of course! Now off with you, you all look exhausted. Relax."

The group is left to their own devices, though Anevia, Aravashnial and Horgus leave for Seer Opoli's hut.

A little while after Seer Opoli is done with healing Ary and the others, Crel and Dyra arrive with furs and mushroom stew. It's warm and rich, with chunks of dire rat meat in it.

Seer Opoli smiles at Ary. "Absolutely. I'm glad I can do you this small service. My niece was among the men you saved from those demon worshippers."

Horgus interrupts the mood. "Ugh. This stuff smells like those demon's foul gases. No doubt it will make me retch all the same."

Valaria fights the urge to slam her head against the wall. "Just stop Horgus. Just... enough. We've had a long day. We had to fight our way through cultists and demons and we're tired. Just... not right now. Please."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

She takes a bowl of the stew and eats quickly, finding it satisfying no matter the taste after the day.

After she finishes, she stands and stretches out. "Well, I'm taking a dip in the hot springs. Anyone want to join me?"

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Horgus grumbles, but he stops talking. "Fine. I wanted to go to sleep anyway. My head is pounding." He regards the furs for a moment, picks the cleanest looking one, and wraps himself up in it. He rolls over, facing away from the group, his bowl of soup untouched.

Anevia flashes Valaria a grateful look when she silences Horgus, having inhaled her own stew without complaint. "Yes! Yes! Me, please!" She hurries out of the hut after her. Lann moves after them, since he needs to secure a ferry for the ride across the lake to the springs.

You have all been awake for 24 hours now and are fatigued.

Markus eats about half of his stew before he pawns the rest off on somebody else - he's full already, and he doesn't want to waste the rest of his food. When Anevia and Valaria get up to go wash themselves, he volunteers as well. "I'll go with you. I'm...cold. I could use a dip in hot water."

After thanking the Seer for his services yet again, Hrut walks over to Lann,

"Lann... earlier I had called your people mongrelfolk and I may have seen you take offense to that, is there something you prefer to be called? I was ignorant in my wording and if you enlighten me I would appreciate it. I honestly meant no offense."

While adrenaline from the fight had kept her going up until now, the walk back to Neathholm combined with the feeling of safety it provided finished off what little energy Li'an had.

She remained quiet for the journey and their interactions with Chief Sull and the Seer, though she smiled and offered her thanks when Opoli healed her wounds.

"Val's right Horgus, please just accept their hospitality. If you prefer rations instead you're welcome to mine."

"I think I can manage enough energy to soak for a bit," she said with a yawn. "Would you like to come along Master Aravashnial, or did you want to go ahead and get some rest?" she said, turning to the elf.

Nice one Hrut!

Ary's mind did a little loop-the-loop as the Seer said that his niece was among the men... then she just nodded and went with it.

"It wasn't a big deal. They kinda saved us, too. If they hadn't stood their ground we'd have quickly become overwhelmed. So... just make sure she knows a Bishop owes her her life as well." Ary smiles to him, then partakes in some of the soup, thanking them. She... wasn't any more a fan of what they were eating than Horgus was, really... so she was slow to eat it.

Once she'd finished eating most of her soup (never let it go to waste!), she'd curl up near Horgus. If he didn't accept things from Fen'wen, she'd have set out some trail rations between them for him to take in the morning; he'd likely be famished, since he'd lost his meal earlier. She wouldn't mention it, and he likely wouldn't either.

Come morning, she'd definitely head out to the hot springs to get cleaned up, and get her gear ready for topside once more... but she was too tired for another night in the hotsprings, just now.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Earlier...

Lann glances at Hrut and smiles. "We're just people, same as you. I don't quite understand your need to focus on our differences when we could be focusing on our similarities. Though your honesty is appreciated."

Aravashnial shakes his head. "I'm fine. I would actually like to speak to Seer Opoli about his people's history. I had a rather fascinating talk with Wenduag while we waited for you to clear out the demons, and she recommended that I ask him the questions she herself could not answer."

Horgus doesn't accept any food from Li'an. He seems eager to just go to sleep so that they may continue back to the surface, and therefore, back to his home.

Now...

Lann ferries Li'an, Valaria, Anevia, and Markus (along with anyone else would would like to come along) across the lake to the hot springs. He stays with the ferry when they leave to make the actual trek there - he assumes that they know the way now.

Val yawns as they ride the ferry across to the hot springs. "Gods, I need a break. We've been going almost non-stop since we got down here." She climbs off the boat and walks to the hot springs. She strips, not bothering to cover herself, and piles her things up a bit away from the water, then slides in, giving a content sigh as she relaxes. "That's so much better. Ugh, pretending to be a cultist today made me feel dirty."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Anevia grins. "Whatever, you did an incredible job, you even freaked Ary out a little! Are you like, a professional actress or something?"

She sits naked on the edge of the springs, just her legs in the water, massaging her broken leg. She doesn't have much of a sense of modesty - if anything - she's a bit of a showoff, though her physique is more boyish than anything.

"That was always the part of thievery I was bad at. The talkin' bits. Just not one of my talents - it seems like one of yours, though! My ma always said everyone's got a talent, and it's up to smart folks to use our talents and then to figure out other peoples' talents and then use them too. So life's about talent collection."

"So... Valaria's talent is talking! And being gorgeous. And Li'an's talent is.... stabbing dretches! And makin' clever guide-ropes to help cripples cross chasms. And... Markus' talent is.." She peers at him for a moment. "Hmmm! Twiddly fingerin'!" she wiggles her fingers around. "Best twiddly-fingerin' zombie-less necromancer I ever did see."

Valaria rather shamelessly admires Anevia's body. Her own top half is above the water, and she's about as modest as Anevia is. "Well, I'm a storyteller more than an actress. But if you can't make your stories believable, no one pays, so I've developed a talent for getting into character. I like to think I have a talent for it."

Li'an followed and disrobed, definitely looking less nervous than last time, although it helped that she thought bring one of the furs to cover herself with. Stepping carefully in, she tossed the fur aside at the last moment and let herself slip in, submerging herself with quick splash. For a moment as she fell in, a large scar was visible on her chest right over her heart. After a moment or two she popped back up and let out a sigh of relief. While she was more relaxed about entering than last time, she definitely still wasn't sure what to make of Anevia and Val being so open. She blushed and tried to avoid looking directly at either of them.

"We need these up in Kenabres, a cold bath after duty just won't be the same after this," she said. She'd normally have considered this a frivolity, but she found it hard to turn down the opportunity now that she'd experienced it.

Li'an nodded in agreement with Anevia. "There's no doubt you have talent. When I'd suggested we disguise to get in, I had thought we'd be able to disable the defenders outside without raising an alarm. I never imagined we'd end up face to face with Hosilla," she said, leaning back some to relax.

"I'm not sure I'm any better at stabbing things than you or Val," she replied to Anevia. "I think I just get lucky. Sometimes I even feel like Lleuad is guiding me when I strike." She *had* been awfully lucky with some of those strikes today, she thought as she went over the battles in her head.

"I am glad you stepped up and started the battle off by rallying the Wendaug and the Underfolk. I was getting quite nervous at that point, and had convinced myself the only option was to step up and try to catch Hosilla by surprise with an attack. After seeing what those glaives did to Hrut though, I'm not sure I'd have survived," she shivered at the thought of Hrut getting nearly skewered on the wicked polearms.

Markus relaxes a little more as he settles into the warm water - he's no longer nearly as self-conscious as he once was with these ladies, though he still remains mostly silent. When Anevia makes a joke about his twiddly fingers, he giggles a little bit and twiddles his fingers at her. "Look out!" He gives her an intense little stare. "I'll curse you with an eternity of suffering if you give me such ridiculous talents!"

Female Tiefling (Pitborn) Bard (Weapon Champion) 9/Champion/Trickster 3 | HP: 97/114 | AC: 25, Touch 18, Flat-Footed 19 | CMD: 26 | Fort: +10, Reflex +13, Will: +10 | Init: +6 | Perception: +16, Darkvision 60 ft. | Performance: 18/24, Shatter: 1/1, Lore Master: 1/1, Mythic Power: 6/9

Val can't help a small chuckle at Li'an's shyness. It's oddly endearing. "I've got some skill, but you've held your own just as well. Plus, that sneaky stab thing you do when you catch an enemy off-guard takes skills I certainly don't have."

She laughs outright. "Well, I wasn't planning to get all the way to Hosilla either. I played that entire thing off the top of my head. The fact that it worked surprised me as much as you. I guess she wasn't all the bright."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Anevia laughs, slipping into the hot spring as she does. She splashes Markus playfully.

"Nonsense! The gods blessed with you with a talent, take it up with them! And you couldn't curse me if you tried, I'd outwit your magicks with my superior intellect," she adds, smugly. "Though I suppose I'd be right screwed if you ever did make a zombie, I doubt he'd be able to resist my potent brainial odours and I'd be devoured in my sleep. So perhaps you should go with a skeleton."

Markus:
She knows a decent bit about necromancy for someone so uneducated about magic - but considering where she was born it isn't too surprising.

No rush, but once someone at the hot spring decides they want to go to bed, we're moving on to the next day. :)

As a young man still at the dusk of his adolescence, wise Ehren decided to once again refrain from joining the others at the hot springs. Perhaps that was his loss, but he was not about to go out of his way to inject himself into an awkward social situation. Fortunately, he did not have to go out of his way to conjure up excuses.

If allowed, Ehren is content to sit in on Aravashnial and Seer Opoli's discussion, genuinely curious about Neathholm's history, if not as fanatically so as the wizard.

Male Dhampir (Moroi-Born) White Necromancer 7/Archmage 2 | hp 51/51 (healthy), AC 12, touch 10, ff 12, CMD 15 | Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +7, various bonuses | Init -1, Perception +2, low-light, darkvision (mythic power 7/7)

"If I was trying to curse you, you're telling me that I'd be better off creating something that's not as good at getting you?" Markus smiles, rare and sweet, wiping hot water out of his eyes. He barely feels the pain from the heat. "Besides, you could just ask them real nicely not to eat you. I'm sure they'd listen to someone like you."

Female Tiefling (Pitborn) Bard (Weapon Champion) 9/Champion/Trickster 3 | HP: 97/114 | AC: 25, Touch 18, Flat-Footed 19 | CMD: 26 | Fort: +10, Reflex +13, Will: +10 | Init: +6 | Perception: +16, Darkvision 60 ft. | Performance: 18/24, Shatter: 1/1, Lore Master: 1/1, Mythic Power: 6/9

Val giggles. "I don't know, I think Anevia would like it when people eat her. Then again, her wife might get jealous if anyone other than her gets to do it, so she'd probably still ask you to stop." Her eyes sparkle mischievously as she grins at both of them.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

At the hut...

Aravashnial passes the time asking Seer Opoli a literal barrage of questions - wanting to know everything from his people's history to their customs to how they've managed to survive underground for so long. Unlike the younger underfolk, the Seer is patient with him, though Aravashnial is much more careful than in the past with his words and phrases after Li'an's efforts. His only sign of rudeness is that he doesn't bother to keep his voice down with Ary, Hrut, and Horgus sleeping nearby.

"So, without the the sun, how do you keep time? I have noticed that there are always mo-.. people about, regardless of when we are in Neathholm. It makes sense to me that without the sunlight, conventional circadian rhythms would no longer apply. But you must have a way to track the passage of time."

"In the earliest times, our ancestors would estimate using sleep cycles. But the longer we stayed underground, the more irregular our sleep has become. So we created a device we call a 'kulniir' - at first it was just a small bowl that we placed under a dripping stalactite. When the bowl filled, we would use that as a demarcation of time - known as kulniir. Later, with the aid of other underground races, we were able to return to using Absalom Reckoning and created more sophisticated water clocks, though we are much more concerned with tracking the passage of days and years than of hours, this is true. It is one of Chief Sull's many duties to keep track of time and my duty to chronicle our past - our population, the health of our mushroom crop, and more."

"Other underground races? Please explain."

Aravashnial is rapt and attentive, though every now and then he looks frustrated. Finally, he asks, "Who is still here with us? I know that Li'an left with others to bathe. Who remained?"

Seer Opoli answers - "Lann left with most of the women. The Bishop girl, the tall knight, Hrut?, and your healer... Ehren remain, though only the young man is awake." He catches Ehren's eye and smiles, then turns back to what he is doing - packing up his alchemical stores into satchels, for travel, it seems.

Aravashnial nods. "Ehren. Can you read and write? I have paper, and quill and ink. I'd like it very much if you could help take notes. This really is the discovery of a lifetime."

At the hot springs...

Anevia shudders. "Uch, you people! Makin' zombies is one thing, but necrophilia? Now that's some messed up s%%*, and I've seen some seriously messed up s&#!. ...Also, I am a married woman, and while I appreciate the offer to have a glorious undead orgy with you folks, I am afraid I must turn down your affectations. I gotta put my career first, y'know. ...Though if you're both into ~zombie love~ then perhaps you two are made for each other, as cute as you and Li'an are." She peers at Valaria and Markus. "It's hard to tell when you're wandering around dressed for a funeral, but when you're all naked you're actually -quite handsome you know. Or at least I think so. Sorry, but I'm not much into men."

She leans back and smiles mischievously. "Li'an, you're bein' quiet. You jealous? 'Ol mage fingers is stealin' your lady!" she teases, even though she has been the one playing matchmaker the whole time - even since the festival that feels so long ago.

Li'an had started to doze off, dreaming of some strange amalgam of Kenabres and Neathholm, where she'd been tasked with saving Anevia, Markus and Val from some army of really polite undead. Hearing her name called out chased the dream (and zombies) away, however, and she opened her eyes sleepily.

"Jealous? Markus stealing my Lady?" she responded, half mumbling. "When did I get her? Can I steal her back? She's quite beautiful... those horns... body..." she continued groggily, drifting back off into sleep. Or she would have, had she not shifted and caused herself to slip from where she'd been reclining, dunking her under water.

Li'an came up with a splash, fully awake again, "What," she said, looking around, confused for a moment. "Oh, hot springs, Neathholm..." she thought aloud, bringing her hands up to rub her eyes. "Wait, why are you all looking at me like that?"

Ary's body is a fine-tuned machine. Able to sleep through a storm, and wake at the first sign of trouble. At least, that is what she would like to tell you. The truth is, she's more 'really good at sleeping'. Specific, obnoxiously loud things will rouse her pretty quickly... like an alarm. Someone screaming. She lived in a barracks, though, for the most recent years. When she wasn't camping there was always someone nearby talking.

The young druid listens to the interview attentively, finding himself amused by Aravashnial's enthusiasm. This must mean so much to him... now more than ever. He glances at the wizard's bandaged eyes, wondering if they were the price he had to pay for this knowledge. The irony would be staggering if the world truly worked in such a cruel way. Ehren is surprised - glad, even - to have these thoughts interrupted by Aravashnial's request.

"Of course," Ehren replies with a smile, moving to retrieve the writing utensils. "Taldane will suffice, I hope." Perhaps there was a time when the Sarkorians had no need for literacy, but for their remaining descendants, it was all but essential. That being said, the skill still stretched muscles that the druid did not use very often - for writing, at least. It was a blessing in disguise that Aravashnial would not have to behold his horrendous penmanship.

She glances at Markus again and nods. "He's much better looking with a smile too. You can only take so many broody frowns before it starts to get tiresome."

Val blushes slightly as Li'an mumbles in her sleep, then chuckles as she bolts awake. "Oh nothing. Anevia just said something that has me thinking. You're learning all the magicy stuff too, right? So who has better magic fingers? You or Markus?"

He adds a quick addendum. "And it was never me that brought up having sex with zombies!"

Markus doesn't really want to brag, and he completely misses Valaria's innuendo. "I dunno, Li'an's pretty clever. She probably knows more magic than me, if that means anything."

Val shrugs. "Well, I was talking about vampires. Despite your desperate need of a tan, you're clearly very much a living breathing man." She runs her eyes over his body appreciatively.

She giggles. "I don't know. Li'an's learning quickly, but I'm sure that if you wiggle your fingers the right way dome really magic would happen."

Li'an really wasn't quite sure she'd heard Markus right, shaking her head to try to get the water our of her ears.

He did compliment her, though, so she decided to just run with that for the moment. "Thanks, Markus," she responded with a smile.

"I don't know," she responded to Val. "I mean if it just came down to having dextrous fingers, I'd probably have Markus beat hands down. And he might be right that I've spent more time studying the subject. I certainly spent more time than I'd care to admit locked in a room alone, working it out. But what really counts is the whole package, isn't it? I think he's probably a lot more experienced, and definitely better equipped than I..." Li'an stopped mid-sentence as her mind decided to bring her up to speed on what Markus had said before the compliment.

"Wait... Sex with what??? What are we talking about? Oh no..." Re-evaluating what she'd said in the context of the apparent discussion was enough to cause her to turn bright red. "I meant spell casting!" she stammered out.

Val's grin looks large enough to splot her head in two. "So your sure that your fingers are more dexterous than Markus huh. Maybe you could check and see. I'd be happy to judge that contest. Well, I'd certainly pay to be a fly on the walk while you were working it out in your room. Alone. Practicing with your fingers over and over again until you got it just right." Any attempts to keep herself from giggling fail miserably as she continues. "And Markus does have some very nice equipment, but your equipment is of a different kind and just as nice in that regard."

"Well, I was talking about sex with you and Markus. The zombie thing was the unfortunate implication of a joke I made."

Anevia winks at Markus. "It's okay, Markus. As long as it's safe and consensual, I don't care what freaky things you're into. I won't judge ya for it."

She then snickers all the way through Li'an's double entendre-laden speech, and shoves Valaria playfully. "This is clearly no place for a married woman to be - temptresses and zombie-lovers! What would Irabeth think? I'm going to bed." She slowly pulls herself out of the water and begins to get dressed. "You kids have fun, though!" She shoots the three one last smirk before she wanders off in search of the raft.

If she'd been able to cast invisibility, Li'an would've vanished then and there. She didn't have that luxury, and wasn't really sure how to handle the situation. Backed into a corner, and unable to feel any more embarassed than she already was, she met Valaria's eyes. Locked intensely on Val's, Li'an's own eyes reflected a bit of the fire she felt as she responded. "I don't do contests, and I don't share," she retorted defiantly.

"Wait up, Anevia, I need some sleep as well!" she called. She stood up out of the water in front of Val, lingering there for a moment to pull her wet hair back. She turned and walked slowly to the edge, getting out and drying off.

As she finished getting dressed and began walking after Anevia, she looked over her shoulder and called back to Val. "I do have a thing for horns though... You should keep all that in mind if you decide you want a demonstration sometime," she said with a quick wink.

Without turning around, as she continued walking away she added "Night, Markus," waving back towards him.

She caught up with Anevia quickly and grabbed her arm, whispering, "Lend me your arm, I might pass out if I think about what I just did, and I'd really hate to do that before making it out of sight."

At a surface I could see it foiled, but in clear water while completely submerged it shouldn't. To see the absence of water under water the spell would have to make you look like a void filled with air, but all it does is make light pass through you as if you weren't there. Without an air/water interface there's no refraction, and so you wouldn't be able to see there was something off unless the water was cloudy (same way fog, glitterdust and flour can reveal someone). A surface, on the other hand, will show a distortion where the person is within the water, as the spell doesn't magically duplicate the effects of the light interacting with where the air/water interface should be but isn't (due to your body displacing the water). Of course that's just a physicist's interpretation of how magic should work, so YMMV :p

I suppose she could've wished for a teleport, but if you can't manage invisibility, you definitely can't manage teleport! ;)

Val's grin somehow manages to grow wider as she meets Li'an's eyes evenly. Her own golden irises seem to reflect light and penetrate straight into Li'an. "Good to know. I'll make sure that we have some private time at some point."

She chuckles and shamelessly admires Li'an's body as she stands up, running her eyes hungrily over her curves. She watches her walk, but takes a moment to process Li'an reply. "I'll keep that in mind. Don't worry, I can give a very thorough demonstration some time. I promise you'll enjoy it."

As Li'an and Anevia walk away, she calls after them. "Oh, and swing your hips a little more when you walk away like that. It completes the image more if you play it up."

She chuckles to herself before turning back to Markus. "Well my broody friend, shall we follow them? I think I could use some sleep myself." She climbs out of the water and dries herself off before getting dressed again and heading after Li'an and Anevia. She hums softly to herself, feeling content and relaxed after the soak.

Markus appreciates that it's not him that's the butt of the joke when Li'an and Valaria are trading flirtation back and forth, so he sits back, a smile on his face, and watches the interaction. When Valaria calls for bed-time, he pulls himself out of the water and wraps a fur around his hips. "Yeah, sure. I could use a bit of sleep before tomorrow."

"Big day. Not sure how much innuendo compares to how important what happens tomorrow." He winks at Valaria. "I dunno if you and her are gonna be able to find someplace private in a war-torn city. If it's even still there."

He takes the raft across with the tiefling, his muscles having relaxed significantly during the bath - both from the companionship and the hot water itself.

She smiles at the dhampir as the raft arrives at the other shore and climbs off. She yawns. "Enough gloomy talk. Let's just get some rest and let tomorrow happen tomorrow. For today, it's time to relax."

The following morning; trying to get this out of the way so everyone can be ready to rock!

Ary would be early to rise the following morning, seeking out a razor, mirror, and a lather brush... with any luck, she'd be able to convince Horgus to shave, or let her do it, if she could find one. It was kind of a big deal to look one's best, after all... and she understood that most likely, that would be true for Horgus more than some of the others.

During the shave, she'd have a short talk with him, mostly about how every single person down here was their own type of crazy, and that each type of crazy was... in and of itself, a necessity for the war effort; certainly Aravashnial had some Paranoia going on, and Anevia, though chipper, had a lot on her mind. She pointed out that the differences of the people was what was really most important; that each was able to protect Kenabres in their own way due to different nuances. He, with his position and resources, Aravashnial with his knowledge and intrigue, and Anevia with her hands in the cookie jars (Half-orc and otherwise). It had never been Aravashnial -or- Anevia's intention to hurt him, and he'd just been caught up in the middle of them doing what was required of them to be the best that they could be. As a point of fact, both of them had actually helped him to gain a more trusted position amongst the leadership of Kenabres through their efforts.

And she would hopefully do this outside of the earshot of nosy and less-sleep-needing elves. :p

Once finished with that, she'd actually skip the hot springs, and instead simply wash her gear the old fashioned way... then do an hour of prayer, during which she held Radiance over Faith, and placed Justice (the name she'd given to the scale of Terendelev) before the shield. The prayer went on at length, but at the end, she did something she didn't usually do... she added her own bit to the end.

"نشكر أيضا Terendelev ... للتضحية لها ، وبالنسبة لي . وسوف أبذل قصارى جهدي ل تكريمها"

Celestial:
"Also thank Terendelev... for her sacrifice, for me. I will do my best to honor her."

Yeah, for me it comes with the job somewhat ;)

The water clock thing is actually really cool, and probably a pretty good solution. Interestingly, the length of their days would probably vary with the season, starting with a wet season like spring with fast dripping, and eventually going to a dry season like winter with slow dripping. They'd probably be offset some from above, just like temperatures are (30' underground or so winter, i.e. the lowest temperatures, arrive in the middle of summer).

Li'an returned to the hut and found a quiet spot outside to meditate for a few moments. She didn't have the energy to dance, but she closed her eyes and focused on the evening's events and the journey ahead, offering a simple prayer to Desna as she did. When she'd finished she headed back inside and for once laid down to sleep on one of the furs, instead of sleeping sitting upright as she usually did. Staring up at the roof of the hut, she thought back to the hot springs, wondering how exactly that'd happened, if Val had been serious, and for that matter, if she herself was serious. The thoughts faded quickly, however, as the last bits of her energy left her and she drifted off to sleep.

The next morning she made an effort to get up early so she could write in her journal before they set off for the surface. The previous day had seemed almost interminable, so occasionally she'd pause to try and remember if something had actually happened yesterday, or if it'd been some other day of their journey. Once or twice she even flipped back to see what she'd written on prior days. She also kept an eye out for Ary as she did, remembering she'd meant to ask why she'd been so interested in her writing last time, but she appeared to have snuck out even before Li'an had awoken.

Li'an's Journal Day #4?:

19th of Arodus (?)

We spent the better part of the day waiting for Hrut to recover from his illness under Seer Opoli’s care. I managed to find some time to take Aravashnial to the hotsprings while we waited. I think he enjoyed a chance to relax. I also found some time to practice my swordplay.

Anyway, we made preparations to assault the outpost as we’d promised Chief Sull. I was rather worried at the time that it would be quite a fight. Lann said there might be a dozen underfolk there along with Wendaug, and perhaps a half dozen cultists along with their leader. I suggested we use disguises to try and take their guards by surprise, which we ended up going with. Using the magic of the scale Terendelev left for me, we were able to change the most conspicuous among us to be more believable--As an aside, being human was a rather strange experience. I’m not sure how they manage to see anything with those terrible eyes of theirs.

We made our way to the entrance, broken up into two groups, and approached the guards in front. If I’d been in the lead I think we wouldn’t have made it much further than the entryway. With Valaria’s skills, however, we managed to get the entire group escorted straight to Hosilla’s antechamber, where she came out to find out what the fuss was about. Somehow Valaria managed to keep the act up for quite a while, the cultist leader unable to see through the ruse. Nevertheless, we were eventually forced to show our hands. Between Valaria, Ary, Ehren and the others, we were able to convince Wendaug and the other underfolk to turn on the cultists. I dread to think what would have happened if we’d been unable to do so, as there we’d have been severely outnumbered and completely surrounded at that point.

The battle was a bit chaotic after that, but we managed to take out Hosilla and her guards eventually. Hrut was able to take one of the guards almost immediately with a bit of help from Anevia, which gave us an advantage right away. Hrut was subsequently seriously injured when commanded to flee by one of the cultists, which gave all of them an opportunity to strike him as he fled. I also made use of his distraction, managing to catch Hosilla off-guard with a strike that likely punctured a lung. All in all, the fight might have lasted a minute or two before we’d finished off the cultists. We were able to capture Hosilla and her tiefling subordinate--who’d joined in mid-fight by using an invisibility potion--along with another cultist.

After the fight, I searched Hosilla’s room and found a long box that was locked. I quickly opened the lock--it was quite trivial with my skills you know-- and found some scrolls, a bag of gems, and a case containing the lost blade Radiance. The blade was quite beautiful to behold, appearing to be made of gold much the same way as Lleuad-a’r-Ser appears to be made of bronze. From what we were told, the blade was supposed to have been dead, losing its powers some time ago. When Ary picked up the blade, however, it sprang to life! Yet another sign that we’re being watched over! How else would a stolen museum piece manage to wind up falling into the hands of the first person to be able to use it in quite some time?

We learned after the battle that Hosilla had managed to summon some demons to guard the main entrance of the place. The group decided we should clear them out before taking supplies and gear back to Neathholm and resting. Dretches are foul little creatures, and though we managed to kill one of them right away, we ended up needing to retreat from the stinking cloud another conjured. That gas that they summon is absolutely terrible. I managed to inhale a good bit of it and it was all I could do to stagger back into the outpost, trying to keep my stomach from emptying its contents. Once it’d cleared, we headed back in, fighting another three dretches inside a what appeared to be a labyrinth dedicated to Baphomet. The tight walls made maneuvering difficult, and yet another cloud of stench was summoned, leaving me sick again for the second time.
With the little demons defeated, several of the group scouted ahead, finding an entry into the sewers beneath Kenabres. Knowing we’d found our exit, we grabbed everything we could and headed back to Neathholm to rest for the night.

The trip back was less eventful than the quick trip to the hot springs afterwards, which is probably the last time we’ll have such a luxury for the foreseeable future. I’m not sure what awaits us above, but if you’re listening Desna, a quiet place with some privacy wouldn’t go amiss.

Sorry this took so long, trying to get my stuff together for meetings tomorrow.

Anevia gladly walks with Li’an on her arm. When Valaria calls out to them, she gladly wiggles her hips for her benefit, even though she understands she was calling for Li’an.

Gradually everyone falls asleep in Seer Opoli’s hut. The Seer himself also tries to get some rest, so that he can prepare spells anew after some rest and consultation with his little bat friend.

20 Arodus 4713

The heroes rest after a long day of fighting illness, cultists and demons. It’s only been a few days since the festival, but they have all noticeably improved and grown since then: partially by necessity, but mostly because they have started to really settle into working together as a well-oiled team.

Congratulations! You’re level 3! :D

Please update your aliases and report to discussion with a list of any changes to your character. Don’t forget your background skills, and also, with ABP you all get a +1 resistance bonus to your saves.

In the morning, after Anevia is done praying to the Inheritor, she seeks out Markus – doing whatever he does in the mornings to prepare his spells. Plopping herself next to him she murmurs, so that someone would need to be eavesdropping to overhear: ”Hey! If me giving you s$&% is making you uncomfortable, let me know. I can always just give Li’an even more s#!! to make up for it. I was just trying to see if I could get you to blush anyhow.” She grins, but she looks concerned all the same.

Horgus gladly allows Ary to shave him, he was getting pretty scraggly looking, all things considered. He listens to Ary’s spiel but doesn’t talk much – the fact that he doesn’t immediately talk back or argue is a good sign, at least. At the end he does remind her – ”I know that you think of Anevia as your friend, but just because she wears a friendly mask doesn’t mean she didn’t steal her wife’s sword back. Good thieves are disarming. I… might apologize to her when I have it back.”

The Seer casts gentle repose on the cultist bodies. ”This spell will only last three days. Hopefully that gives you enough time to get them where you need them to be.”

Before the heroes leave, Lann approaches them with the question of what to do with the cultists – both living and dead.

”Seer Opoli stabilized the other two men before they died…. I hope that is what you wanted. Are you taking them with you? We don’t really have the resources to hold them here… and also you are taking the bodies with you, yes?”

Need answers as to what to do with the cultists – once 2 people agree we’re good.

Otherwise, once two people say they are ready to leave for the surface we will! I hope you’re as excited as I am :D

Excited? I'm -terrified-.

"Seems fair enough." Ary grins at Horgus. It was certainly the best she was going to get... or so she suspected. The fact that he didn't mention Aravashnial at all didn't seem to upset her overmuch; she already felt like he was a losing battle as far as she was concerned. While she viewed him as a citizen in need of aid, he seemed to really dislike being treated in such a way... and it was a lot of effort to coddle him without him realizing he was being coddled. She wanted him to like her and respect her more... but she felt that everything she did around him was somehow... wrong. So the bridges were sort of burned, there, unless something major happened.

I'm not sure what to do with the cultists. I'll think on it as we level up.

Val gets up a bit early, taking the time to write another entry in her new journal before offering a brief prayer to Desna. "I'm sorry I haven't been doing the full prayers recently my lady. Please just hang on a little longer until we're beneath the stars again."

20 Arodus 2713:
Yesterday was… interesting. We took the time to rest, relax, and recover for a bit, especially since we still had wounded and sick people. Well, other than Anevia and Aravashnial, but they’re going to need a lot more than a few days to get better. Hopefully there’s a good healer left alive up in the city. I did get a chance to find this wonderful hand written book full of stories and records from the First Crusade, told by the descendants of the crusaders themselves. Oh, some the images and tales… it’s breathtaking. I’m going to have so many more stories to share after my time here.

Anyway, we headed out in the afternoon A note in the margin reads: Maybe, hard to tell. to find the Neathholm outpost that the cultists had taken over. There were maybe a dozen of the underfolk there, but I never got a good count. We put together a plan to sneak in past the guards by pretending to be more cultists who had come from the surface. I put on my best entitled act and we managed to bluff our way inside. It didn’t hit me until this morning, but I sounded like my mother. Ugh. The sooner I can forget yesterday, the better. Anything that compares me to that woman is too much for me.

Anyway, we managed to make our way inside and ended up getting taken straight to Hosilla, the cult leader. Okay, so that wasn’t part of the plan. I really had no idea what I was doing after the first exchange, so I started ad-libbing. And somehow she bought it. I was as surprised as anyone when she fell for my little act. Maybe she was just dumber than she looked. Then again, she’s a demon worshipping cultist in a city run by paladins. I doubt she’s all that smart at all. Things degraded rather quickly when Hosilla decided it was time to sacrifice one of my friends. Yeah, not happening. On the plus side, we managed to turn the people from Neathholm against her and the fight devolved into a massive melee as the cultists and underfolk fought while we took on Hosilla and her subordinates. There was this one tiefling who I really wanted to punch, but he got taken down before I had a chance. Note: Lucky bastard.

We found some interesting things looking through Hosilla’s stuff though, including an ancient sword apparently called Radiance. It’s some ancient artifact from past crusades that supposedly lost its magic. Considering how it glows when Ary holds it, I think it’s still got some magic left. It just needed the right person to bring it out. I wonder why the cultists wanted it. I seriously doubt that holy weapons are of any use to them and if it lost its magic, there’s not even a reason to keep it from the hands of the crusaders. I found a note mentioning corruption, but if the cultists can corrupt sacred treasures, we may have a serious problem on our hands. Something to worry about once we’re out of here alive I guess.

Our last little challenge for the day was a pack of demons guarding the way to the surface. I’m starting to hate dretches. On top of being ugly as sin, they’re foul, violent and let out this noxious gas cloud that makes me want to hurl. And on top of that, we had to fight them in a maze that the cultists constructed. Maybe some kind of tribute to Baphomet, maybe just to be annoying, I don’t know. At least we managed to kill them all off without taking too many injuries. Despite their nastiness, they’re terrible fighters. Which is probably good for us I suppose. With those out of the way, we headed back to Neathholm to rest and recover before braving the surface.

And another dip in the hot springs. Thank the gods for that. And I learned Li’an has a little more fire in her than she lets on sometimes. I like it. She even knows how to flirt once you push her enough to get a response. And apparently she likes my horns. Note: find something to polish my horns with So today we brave the surface. With luck, the city will be intact and we’ll be able to find help. Without it… Desna protect us and everyone still alive up there.

"That's a great idea Hrut. That sort of thing gets used by scouts quite a bit. It would come in quite handy when even whispering is risky, or we can't use magic, or can't hear anything."

Li'an will pick up a group sign language for linguistics if we're allowed.

Sounds good to me :)

Ary frowns slightly, which turns into a thoughtful expression as she furrows her brows... she finally comes up with:

"نعم فعلت ، وشكرا لكم ل يسأل." and then after a moment's thought, "و أنت؟"

Celestial:
"Yes, I did, thank you for asking. And you?"

"I... don't know. It sounds like it'd obviously be good. Less risk of interception if Fen'wen can't do her spell... and we also can talk in secret. Definitely worthwhile to at lest develop some sort of rapport for basic things, like stop, go, heel..." she nods to Hrut. "Depends on how long we're all together. With any luck, we'll be topside soon." she smiles... and then the smile turns slightly into a frown, as she thinks about the implications of that.
