"The Pathfinder Society has turned its attention to the Ruby Phoenix Tournament—a world-renowned fighting competition, held once every ten years in the city of Goka on the eastern continent of Tian Xia. More specifically, the Decemvirate is interested in the incredible prizes available to the tournament’s winner—a choice of treasure from the legendary vaults of Hao Jin, the Ruby Phoenix herself. As part of the preparations for the tournament, Pathfinder Society agents have been deployed across the Inner Sea and beyond to seek out forgotten lore, allies, and magical items to be used by the Society’s tournament representatives.
Venture-Captain Amara Li, leader of the Lantern Lodge and Goka native, has uncovered information about one such item hidden amid the reaches of the Wall of Heaven—an Iroran relic known as the Braid of a Hundred Masters. Organizing the search from her base in the Dragon Empires, she intends to send a group of Pathfinders to the high mountain range in search of the braid’s ancient home: the Clouded Path Monastery. The two-week-long journey to the mountains began in the cosmopolitan city of Goka, passed through the surrounding villages and farmlands, and led thousands of feet up into the tallest mountain range on Golarion; all that remains is the final day’s journey up from the base camp.. "

A short and stout halfling slowly paddles into the room, his hands folded across his chest and his bare feet poking out from beneath his long brown robes, accented only but a bare rope tied about his waist acting as a belt. His hair is shaved on top, in the tonctured manner that has been out of style for some time now. He nods his head to all in the room. "Friar Huck Flaxseed. It is a pleasure to meet you. You may simply call me Huck, or if you insist on using my title, 'Friar' is also fine."

"I am quite excited to visit the Clouded Path Monastery. I have heard that the devotees in Tian Xia have a different but not wholly dissimilar manner of practicing discipline and order. Of course, my path is not so strict as some of theirs, or so I have heard." The good friar chuckles and pats his round belly, no doubt swollen from many years of drinking some sort of grain alcohol or another.

Huck smiles and says, "As soon as I retrieve my pack I will be ready for the journey. How exciting!"

A tall, attractive and muscular built Keleshite woman marches into the room with an air of nobility. She has bright golden eyes and her head is shaved except the top where a cascade of long, dark brown braids come down to just pass her shoulders. She wears colorful clothing of the traditional Keleshite style with flowing, billowing blouse and a wrap with light armor beneath. The beautiful greatsword strapped to her back is hard to miss.

"Hello I am Ruthzarta of the House of Rubani of Eto from the ancient land of Osirion." She looks over the group and clenches her jaw. ... great a fat halfling, a dirty female peasant and a boy greener then a new sapling .... don't saying anything ... You will be traveling with these "people" for weeks if not months .... Ruth has 7 Charisma so.... she can be very rude most of the time.

She turns to the Venture Captain "Mama, is their any customs that we need to be concerned about in the Dragon Empires? For example; my last mission we were tasked with saving a town from a flying beast but the town did not allow weapons in town. I refused to give up my sword and had a very rough relationship with the townsfolk."

Your two middle-aged human Tian guides, Xue Ho and Hai Xuan greet you all again this morning as they have each day for the past two weeks. With a bow and grin, Xue Ho speaks...

" Master Pathfinders...today we will reach the base camp at the foot of the mountain. That will be the last of the easy journey of tea, noodles and country inns. There the real climb will begin. "

They gather their packs and walking sticks and wait patiently for you each to follow.

As you continue your climb throughout the day, through the foothills of the looming mountains, Hai Xuan stops and points...

"Master Pathfinders...ahead see basecamp. We reach destination. Tomorrow you climb."

The base camp site, only a few hundred feet
above the forest line that covers the lower reaches
of the Wall of Heaven, offers a panoramic
view of the surrounding farmlands,
far below. The half-flooded terraced
farmlands appear silver and mirrored in
the late afternoon light. The camp itself is
little more than a trio of unmaintained
wooden shacks surrounding the remnants
of a large fire pit and a fallen wooden corral
fence to the east.

"It is really quite beautiful here, isn't it? Just the scenery for a painting or a sketch, I would say. But yes, Saldoc is right. There is shelter here and a place for a fire. Let's stay warm this night before we begin our ascent tomorrow. Alas, the Lady Shelyn has not granted me with a worthy voice or I would sing a song about the campfire tonight."

Meredith will prepare Endure Elements so she can handle the extreme temperatures.

Meredith doesn't say much during the trip and instead takes in the sights. When they reach the base camp, she takes a look below. "It's beautiful, isn't it? Makes you forget your troubles, even if just for a moment."

"If you need protection against the cold, I can ask the very earth to protect two of you tomorrow. Speak now, though- I'd rather prepare my abilities for other potential issues."

There are no signs of recent habitation in the base camp. The buildings appear to be abandoned months ago or longer. Your two guides move towards one of the huts...

Xue Ho turns to Ruth and says plainly...
"We shelter here tonight...you set out tomorrow."

Followed by a nodding Hai Xuan, who points upwards to the mountain trail which twists and climbs steeply into the darkness.

"We stay here until you return from monastery."

"Now, we best set camp and collect wood for fire before dark."

Xue Ho agrees.

"Cold nights in mountains. More cold higher you go. "

Although most has melted in the spring, there are still traces of snow in the shadows of the mountain at the higher elevations.

Most of you easily find sticks and branches which could be used for a fire. Otherwise the camp appears to be uninhabited. Unless people are inside.

The two guides have taken up to arguing about something in their native language...pointing to the mountains and trees then shaking their heads and end with a chuckle.

While he is thinking about his, Friar Huck hands his wand of cure light wounds to Meredith as he is helping her find sticks for a fire. He offers to carry the sticks and pieces of wood that she finds, as he doesn't know much about setting up camps in the wilderness.

Ruth grabs a small wand out of her pack and says the command word. Mage Armor Putting the wand back with one hand she draws her sword with the other. "Come! Let's clear the camp before we start setting up." She walks to the nearest tent and opens the door.

Ruth approaches the closest hut and opens the door. Inside the hut reveals that the building has not seen much activity in recent years.

Saldoc also finds his hut empty other than a few rotting mats and shreds of clothing.

Meredith and Friar Tuck head to small group of trees to gather dry branches she has located under some snow drifts.

Meredith also notices some paw tracks near the trees.

And I just realized it should have only had a bite attack last round due to surprise, but fortunately it missed.
