Hey, AK and Ansha: I assume you guys are using a translator for the Elvish dialogue? Which one?

If I had to guess, I'd say AK was using this translator, though I didn't find that until way later. I...am just a nerd, and after the first couple of posts started translating it into Quenya manually.

My (Tolkien) nerd cred is low enough I had to Google 'Quenya.' Here I thought it was just Elvish. :P

Your Humble Narrator

A 7:30-7:00 massive day at university followed by further unpacking conspired to steal my day I am afraid, but updates will only be delayed until tomorrow- I have a free day :).

Your Humble Narrator

Ok... update up, PM's sent.

I'd like to wrap up individual scenes fairly soon so some OOC discussion about your evening plans is in order- are you hunting the Ankylosaurus, as Qhude intends?

Meh. I'm trying to remember what Tebati was intending to talk to Ntisi about now. Hopefully it will come back to me. :P

Did we ascertain how far it is to the ranch's northern edge where the ankylosaurus has been seen and how long it will take us to get there?

Your Humble Narrator

The anklyosaurus attacks happened a little over a mile away- still within sight of the large building at the centre of the estate. Should be a short journey to the edge of the jungle there.

Your Humble Narrator

Joana- to answer your question i've used quite a few Elven "translators". I haven't settled on one yet. I may just use Ansha's link (not the one I have been using, but an awesome find!).

Male Human (Ijo) Monk 4 (Zen Archer)

I'm back in the states, but not yet home (stuck with bad hotel and airport Internet till then). Had a good trip, but it will good to get back home. I will try to get read-up and back in the threads over the next day or two. Should be home and up to speed by Thursday night. Sorry for the posting gap.

Re-reading the last couple of pages to try to remember what exactly we were planning to do. One thing was to consult Jeggare about both the pilgrim and any general rumors around town, although we don't necessarily have to do so before tackling the ankylosaurus. We were also intending to question Eliandra, although that's probably best handled by Ansha.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Qhude left the banquet before any of the finer detail was discussed, so in his mind it's a pretty simple go hunt the big lizard quest - which is what he's prepared for.

More than willing to be proven wrong - but that's his mindset at present.

Sick kids, man-flu and crappy internet connectivity is rife at present, so will remain intermittent throughout holiday timeframe.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Man-flu???

Something like the Tic vs. the common cold?

Or like the blue flu but referring to taking time off to either sit in the woods and drink beer or dance on a pride float?

Your Humble Narrator

Sorry again. I was hit by Freshers Flu, still recovering.

Hope you're feeling better, AK. Did you get hot and cold running internet in the house on schedule?

Your Humble Narrator

Internet is fine. I didn't get time to update you guys but I have been rushed away for a teamwork building weekend by my degree programme. This is the first window i've had to get on the internet since midday Friday and its a 2 minute window, its crazy intense.

Please spread the word where necessary, i'm back in action on monday!

Meh, teambuilding. I once dropped a class after the first day because I found out it required a group project. :P

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Your cheerful friendly barbaric self-mutilater is back in the metaphoric saddle and ready to get back into the thick of things. Holiday was good, though both too long and too short.

Ansha wrote:
She would have thrown a Color Spray in his face, but apparently she can't use spells with Somatic components while grappled. By the way, were we still ignoring material components or do I need to look again at wasting a feat on Eschew Materials?

If only I had seen the following way back when Ansha was being man-handled:

Sean K Reynolds wrote:
The above is a legacy of the 3E grapple rules. With PFRPG redefining grapple as "I have your arm, not your whole body," the above doesn't make sense, and it was only present in one part of the Core Rulebook (in the Concentration section, I think). So it's being removed in errata: the "no somatic components while you're grappled" rule shouldn't be in the book.

*takes thread's pulse* I think I killed it.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

It's not dead... just pining for the fjords.

Your Humble Narrator

Sorry guys. Updating later today.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

A query (as it came up in a recent campaign) of alignment.

What alignment do you think Qhude is based on his actions? Still TN, or is he CN?

I vote he's CN, because the more Chaotic in the group, the better.

>.>

Quote:

Neutral: A neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. She doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos (and thus neutral is sometimes called “true neutral”). Most neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character probably thinks of good as better than evil—after all, she would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, she's not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way.

Some neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run.

Neutral means you act naturally in any situation, without prejudice or compulsion.

Chaotic Neutral: A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn't strive to protect others' freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. A chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those others suffer). A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as he is to cross it.

Chaotic neutral represents freedom from both society's restrictions and a do-gooder's zeal.

I'd say True Neutral, more in that he doesn't meet the standards for Chaos than in an exact match to Neutrality. Qhude has fought to protect the Sargavan soldiers and Bethany, and it couldn't just have been for love of battle because he was willing to negotiate for Bethany rather than go in fighting. He would have been shamed if we had interfered in his honor-battle with the Bandu raider, whereas a Chaotic character wouldn't have cared if his word was kept or not. He embraces rather than challenges the traditions of the Zenj. And while he most definitely represents freedom from society's restrictions, he does accept the world as it is rather than fighting against it.

He may express his Neutrality in overtly violent ways, but I don't think he's philosophically Chaotic. Of course, people seem to think I have an uncompromising reading of Chaos. :)

Male Human

I think I agree with Joana on the matter of Qhude's alignment, mate. He has not really done anything -at least overtly- chaotic. Furthermore, he appears to have a sense of honor and fair play and adhere to a form of discipline and a set of rules, even if they are his own more or less.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

I'll keep him TN for now then... though with a smile I note that there's no confusion as to whether he should be Good or Evil. I think he neatly bisects that axis.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Actually, given that he adhears to a strong personal code outside of the area where that code is common, an argument for Lawful could be made.

I think TN is still the most fitting though.

Your Humble Narrator

I think TN is a comfortable fit right now. Its rare someone fits entirely within an alignment and Qhude has both chaotic and lawful elements.

Male Human

You know, I may be touting our own horns and all that, but I went back and browsed through our little game/story and it does make for a not so bad read. Yay us!:-D

Yaaay :D

To answer your in-thread question, AK, it does look like Jakob has a light source.

Ninj'd by Ansha!

Your Humble Narrator

I had a vague recollection of it so I was happy to assume.

I've actually got the post-Freehold section almost finished... Bwahaha :)

Can I quote myself?

Well the light makes for very little difference at the moment.

I second that Yaaay. Looking forward to the next bit. Always assuming Jakob does not get squished by the nice dino.

Your Humble Narrator

You actually came upon it during its nap time... but it heard you stumbling around before you heard it sleeping quietly.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Great. We disturb it's rest and we have neither bacon, hot coffee, or good donuts. We are soooooo squished.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Mutters unmentionables at the noble act of protecting the column's rear. Qhude is far too far from the party for his liking :P

Oh, yay, a 21 misses. Hope there's a cover bonus in there somewhere. :P

Male Human

Oh, boy... And unfortunately Kieran will be attacking. Played true to form, he is a bit reckless. Here's hoping he does not lose any body parts, at least no irreplaceable ones.

Ah, a rules question: He is currently holding his sword in his right hand. If he were to draw and throw his dagger with his left, would it be considered two-weapon fighting or not?

Sovereign Court

Male

No, it wouldn't.

Edit: I thought it was rather apparent that there would be a cover bonus in somewhere. I believe I hinted at it in the description.

Yeah, you did:

DM Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:
a good shot that was unfortunately deflected slightly off course by the dense undergrowth

And even explicitly, here:

DM Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:
attacks with reach weapons and ranged attacks will be subject to cover.

It's just sobering to start off a combat at 2nd level and see a 21 miss. ;)

Should have Bit of Lucked him, and we might have confirmed that crit. ;P

Male Human

Heh... Mayhaps. Though I should think the bonus to AC might also come in handy. The beastie hits with a +11!

On another note: Do you guys have Facebook?

Your Humble Narrator

I do. I'm usually very easy to find. N'bellocq's attack missed.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Have it, don't use it more than I have to. Nothing in my profile is true* or links back to the real me.

I have issues with their privacy policy.

*this may be a lie.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

I am indeed facebook ready - makes keeping in touch with the relatives around the world much easier with sharing of kidlet photos and whatnot.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Joanna - Cru-tho-ni-ax gave Qhude two nets:
Eventually, Cruthoniax presented Qhude with two large, intricately folded nets.

Though I'm still internally debating whether Qhude is going to be a bit too emo to use the second... partially depends on whether the anklylosaurus draws blood...

Qhude wrote:

And how much. :P

Tebati's just a bit exercised because it's her boyfriend in melee with a dinosaur while you guys are in the back playing with butterfly nets. ;)

Not on Facebook. Not a fan of websites that don't allow lurking. I'm commitment-shy.

Male Human

And the suspense, what with it being the beastie's turn and all, is killing me! Hopefully, the attack, on the other hand, will not...

And it just really occured to me: Kieran is sword-fighting with a freakin' dinosaur!
