Hello and greetings one and all! I am looking to host a game of Rise of the Runelords here with several of you wonderful folks.
I was hoping to run a game with 4 - 5 players on a 15 point-buy character build limit as I have found 20 point characters often breeze through much of the challenge in these APs and have decided to try something a little different to up the challenge a bit. Besides, I'm told the AP was designed for 15 point buy anyways so it should be fine.
Anyways, rules are:
15 point buy
Most races and classes are fine but no Drow Nobles or Cyborgs.
If you want to play a cleric or paladin you MUST worship a god or one of the other prescribed faiths such as the Green Faith. Players should aim for a post per day where applicable.
No 3PP
Max starting gold.
2 additional Background skills
1 Campaign Trait and 1 Trait of your choice.
Recruitment will be open until 5/09/2026 00:00 PST.
This will be heavy on roleplay so only apply if you are comfortable writing long, well thought out responses.
Any questions please feel free to ask below or DM me.

Dotting - I have a Dwarf Ranger that I'd like to bring to the party if you'd have me :) will post sheet and background over the next few days. Love the focus on RP, and I don't mind the low point buy at all! The extra challenge will be welcome. He's a melee, martial character that goes on the dwarven-specific cleave-related chain of feats (not many opportunities to use it!)

Very interesting! Excited to see a dwarf character, never had someone play one in a campaign of mine before. Especially a melee ranger dwarf build. Sounds very unique.

Terrible memory is also my best/worst quality. :P

I'll need to work on how she came to be where she is. And integrate her into the narrative
Would you allow her bite to fall under the normal monk attack bonuses?
As it is a Natural Weapon and not an Unarmed Attack I'm gonna have to rule that as a no.
As far as story integration, well, fortunately Sandpoint is a port town so don't know if that'll help you with your sharky individual but might be a good starting point.

So im thinking she grew up close to Sandpoint, a small island off the coast. Very dangerous waters, but even then her family made a living from catching the more dangerous fish that made their home in said waters. So eventually she decided to take to the ocean and explore the waters away from home. Meet new people and see what the outside world has to offer, including, maybe, learn how to awaken the latent blood inside her

I have this tiefling abjurer I've been wanting to run through this AP. He's an exile from Riddleport who got cozy with the scholars of Sandpoint after moving there.
Are you okay with the Thassilonian Specialist archetype for wizards? It's fine if not, he'll just be a vanilla abjurer otherwise. The profile will need some reworking to meet your requirements, but the premise is there regardless. The profile has an RP excerpt.
Question, does the "2 additional background skills" mean we get 4?

I'm perfectly fine with the Thassilonian Specialist, in fact I find it rather fitting for the AP.
2 additional Background Skills mean two in total, not four.

2 additional Background skills
Pardon, is that 4 Background skills total or just stressing the usual 2? EDIT: Nevermind, I misread I think and will need to add more 4 more background skill points then.
... That aside, I think I'm done.

Yaron's story: I should be very grateful, not only was I born into House Deverin, but I was born celestially touched, an Aasimar. Most see such a child as a sign of favor from the gods. Had I been born into any other noble family I might have gotten a swelled head, well, more swelled than I already have. Alas, though I was an adorable almost cherub like lad for my early years, I also came with an odd condition, the babbling of tongues- Celestial, language of the heavens. My first words were in that language, and indeed, stress had me resort to it. Apparently, some clergy declared it was another sign of my 'blessing'.
Yet when you are a child, different from others to a degree, such a blessing is like iron to a lodestone. The same bullies who resented that I was special, delighted in mocking me because I was a freak. I was told to take the high road, to be above it all, and I really did try, but I am at least in part human, and I got into more than one fist fight. I usually lost by the way, but some how I recovered faster than I should have. People said I was here for a reason, and that put a lot of pressure on me when such gifts never came. And being told you WILL be good, its in your blood AND family can make one long to wear black and grow a twisted beard. I never gave into that urge, because at my core I suppose I don't want to be evil, and also I've had trouble growing decent facial hair.
Seeking a new place to reinvent myself, my family , which helped found Sandpoint anyway, decided to send me to my older Cousin Kendra and other relations in that town. Big religious ceremony there, and it was thought that if anyone should go from the Magnimar set of the family, it would be their miracle child. Not what I had in mind *Sigh*
---
It should be noted that, until the adventure starts, Yargon has never cast an actual spell (out side of of his race's natural gifts) in his life. The start of the adventure is the time where the gods bestow their full blessings which he gains an almost instinctive use of. It is surprising to him and makes him a bit alarmed that they do have a plan for him after all.
Appearance: Yaron looks mostly human, but when he heals or begins speaking in tongues, a halo of light appears over his head. Add to that his eyes are a celestial blue and the whites appear to be more pearl like, and those who know what to look for can tell he is an Aasimar.
My idea is that the events that start the adventure are what cause his full 'oracle hood' to kick in after a life time of an odd verbal curse alone. I know he's not an X-Man but it should be fun to role play his surprise as he starts healing in combat etc.
Hope I've got everything right.

You should have 2 Background Skills in total mind. Not 4.

Ridge wrote:Got it. Hope the rest is good?Absolutely loving the character concept! Very well done. However, I could use a bit more of a physical description as I only know he looks human and has cool aasimar eyes.
What is his hair color/style? Height? Build? Complexion? Age?
Ah, my bad. I had notes in hero lab but not where it would show in he output that I copied.
Updating the appearance

He has lived for 24 years but looks closer to twenty thanks to his unique heritage. He has a fair complexion though not as pale as a Nidalese.

Okay, I believe Latore is finished and ready for review/consideration. I'm excited about an RP heavy AP, and of course best of luck to all.
This all looks great to me. Way to tie your character into the setting!

Excellent. Everything looks good here.

Rokea Razortooth, as she's called by those that know her, is a tall woman. She has a bit of a wild look about her. Her hair is shaved on both sides, with a middle streak that reaches down her back. Her hair is a mix of blue and grey. She has very dark eyes. Muscular. The scent of ocean about her. She has a few scars that cover her body which she claimed is fighting off sea creatures that wants to steal her catch of the day. Around her neck she weares a necklace made from shark teeth. She claimed it's all the teeth she's lost so far fighting off the water denizens around her fishing boat. She's rough around the edges and seems to put people off with her tomboyish nature and manarisms. She has very little social tact and often says things like she sees it. She shows a lot of skin, saying that normal clothing makes it difficult to swim and can easily catch on hooks and other debris in the ocean. What makes her stand out even more, despite the strange colour of her hair, is the fact, and the cause of her nickname, she has serated teeth, which can easily be seen and noticed when she smiles

I will put an application together tonight. I'm thinking a goblin kineticist. :)
Questions I didn't see anyone ask: Max hp? How do you feel about Elephant in the Room feat revisions? And can we take a drawback trait?
No drawbacks and no Elephant in the Room.
Also, yes, max HP at level 1.

Hi GM! Here's Lapyd with my Dwarf ranger. He uses dwarven weapons, a dwarven fight style, and is focused on melee. Hoping to go for the cleave chain of feats. His profile here includes background, sheet, and a bit more fluff that I added for flavor / RP. Thanks for running it!
Hi GM! Just wanted to make sure you had a chance to see Gharudim too :) thanks
