I'm Hiding In Your Closet
|
I have a Pathfinder Society Witch/Cleric who is aspiring to become a Mystic Theurge, and I would dearly like to know if there is ANY way he could continue to acquire Patron spells - a feat, an item, anything will do - while advancing his Mystic Theurge levels.
If there were also/instead a way he could advance his Domain abilities, I'd certainly be glad to hear about it too.
Forgive me if this belongs in the Rules forum or whatever.

The PrC cuts off many class stacking abilites as you don't progress in that class anymore. I know it's a pain.
Your Home Game GM is the solution for one class, I don't think anyone would approve both.
In PFS GMs don't have home game caveat for the most part so there is no solution in that campaign.
as you want build Advice this is the right forum
With Cleric a buffer/healer and Witch a debuffer they are kinda at odds which is good for multiclassing. Personally just 'dip' 1 level in cleric varisian pilgrim using Wis 12 then stop as you get most of what you want.
Another way around this for PFS is the Samsaran boon, taking your main casting class and poach 4-5 spells from the desired spell list. You have to stay within the same style of your main class's arcane/divine/occult caster lists.

If the spells are already on the witch’s spell list simply purchase a scroll and have your familiar learn the spell. Witches do not get extra slots for patron spells, so as long as your familiar has the spell you can still memorize it.
The cleric on the other hand is just plain out of luck. Their domain spells do get extra slots, and they cannot use their normal slots to memorize domain spells unless the spell is already on the cleric spell list. Domain powers are also something you sacrifice with the prestige class.

The spells I am most interested in getting specifically are not on the normal Witch list.

It just so happens he is a Samsaran!

1) Why Varisian Pilgrim?
2) How would I not have to invest 3 levels in Cleric to become a Mystic Theurge??? If I'm wrong about that, that would indeed be VERY good to know (at present, he still has only 1 level in Cleric, but I meant to advance that next)!| Azothath |
sooo - you know I post builds. Good builds IMO, all PFS legal.
Sure, they're Wizard multiclass dips into cleric, monk, paladin but you can do the same thing with Witch. Go read a few.
It is about spell lists and using magic items. Spellcraft is always better than Use Magic Device for items on your spell list. Samsaran can poach a few or a dip nets you the whole spell list.
Varisian Pilgrim allows you to use your domain powers on your (morning prayer session) allies at range as though they had the domain power. Think about that. The only catch is your deity needs to have A certain domain so you keep your two domains. I chat about this in my build posts. It's worth netting a decent weapon while you're at it (all the wizard weapons su&& eggs).

Spells Wiz--> Witch
choose 4-5 spread across SplLvls 1-4...
1: Break, Coin Shot, Heightened Awareness, Illusion of Calm, Magic Missile, Protection from Evil, Shield, Vanish...
2: Bear Endurance, Cat's Grace, Create Pit, Hideous Laughter, Invisibility, Mirror Image, Resist Energy...
3: Ablative Barrier, Aqueous Orb, Blink, Haste, Phantom Steed...
4: Dragon's Breath, Shadow Projection...
5: Acidic Spray, Cone of Cold...
The Mystic Theurge in PFS has no workaround. You need all your levels. You take a hit on your spellcasting for a bunch of low level spells and kill off your class ability advancement. Not worth it. Now if you want to play a mystic theurge for the fun of it and roleplay aspect - go for it.

I'm fairly certain that the (few ways of) entry into the Mystic Theurge prestige class with only one level of a divine caster class aren't entirely PFS legal. The Faith Magic arcane discovery method is definitely not PFS legal, and I'm fairly sure Witches have no means in which to access that arcane discovery.
Sorry for being the bearer of bad news. If you weren't a witch but a wizard....
The only option that I believe has a shot is the Spirit Whisperer archetype for the Wizard that selects the Lore Spirit and the Arcane Enlightenment hex, as the archetype and spirit are both PFS legal.

I recommend a plain old witch with the Healing patron. Consider the Hedge Witch archetype to get spontaneous healing and condition removal.
You get full spell progression, good healing, a single casting stat, and all your hexes (or trade out 2 hexes with the Hedge Witch). If you want to buff your party consider: Protective Luck, Cackle, Soothsayer, and then Fortune.

PFS Specific
I'll add your PC in PFS is not 'set' until you have 3 XP and start your 4th scenario, 2nd level. So if you are just a Cleric 1 it is not set in stone yet. Same goes for GM babies that have never seen table play. Some people just play Pregens for those first 3 scenarios to try out different classes.
PFS only goes to 12th so the single class never edges out the multiclass dip supporters unless you are in the "seeker" scenarios or APs. It also means late bloomers (like Mystic Theurge) won't see a lot of play. I have a wanna-be Bloatmage at 5th now... I know the issues but she's just for roleplay fun (Violet Beauregarde).

I'd agree that a single class Witch is a bit more effective and the Healing patron adds some nice divine spells
