Can this Character cast Spell Resistance?

Rules Questions

I'm playing a Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple and am 5 Sorc/6 DD for a total level of 11.
Because of Blood of Dragons my effective Sorc level for Draconic Bloodline is 11 which grants me the spell 'Spell Resistance', however it's a 5th level spell and I don't get 5th level spell slots yet.
It seems like there is something wrong for the character to have a spell but not be able to cast it because they don't possess an adequate slot.

Have I made an error somewhere? If not is there a ruling about how this situation is meant to be handled?

No, the character cannot cast the spell unless they have a way to regain the lost caster level for Dragon Disciple. The Feat Prestigious Caster (which has the feat Favored Prestige Class as a prerequisite) is the only way I know to do this. No magic item that I am aware of boosts your caster level for spells per day.

The loss of caster levels including spell per day is the price you pay for the extra power the prestige class gives you.

Alright, thank you. Makes the Prestigious Caster feat all the more priority for me.

Sorcerer with Draconic Bloodline

Dragon Disciple PrC loses 3 arcane caster levels over 10 PrC levels. As usual the PrC only grants new spells and not other class abilities (like Familiar gains, new free learned & scribed spells, etc).
Blood of Dragons means your PrC levels stack/add for sorcerer draconic bloodline. This ability does not grant bonus spells to a sorcerer unless he possesses spell slots of an appropriate level. Such bonus spells are automatically granted if the sorcerer gains spell slots of the spell's level. So your question is answered in the PrC.

Magical Knack trait is helpful for caster level {aka duration etc}.

Prestigious Spellcaster feat is okay but you are trading feats for effective PrC caster levels not base class levels.

You might try the Advice Forum. I'd search it for similar builds.

Just note that the Prestigious Spellcaster feat is not PFS Legal, most likely either because it is considered overpowered or overly confusing/complicated (it only grants 'new spells per day as if the prestige class did grant +1 level of spellcasting for that level' rather than the 'you gain 1 additional effective spellcaster level from your prestige class levels' as described in the feat's description).

Definitely a 'check with your GM before adding this feat to your plans' sort of situation...
