Daredevil: Born Again

Television

Just...wow. Really it's not quite like where it left off after Netflix, but at the same time, it's a grown continuation story. Episode 1 left your jaw on the floor with the first 5 minutes; But really episode 2 and the BEST fight so far of the season; That was just...killer.

D'Onofrio's Kingpin is still one of the best features of this series. It's nice to see the growth of the character while still being who he is. Cox is just FIRE. The two of them are just top tier talents and the restaurant scene is still the best of them chewing scene.

Best MCU? Nah. Best TELEVISION bar none.

Seriously?? No one else here watched it??!

I'm saving it for the weekend when I can savor it.

I just watched it late last night. Agree with you, some of the best TV I've seen in awhile, and definitely some of the best Marvel (though Agatha All Along was also terrific). It captures what was great about the first series but also carried it forward in a new way.

Very sad about what happened in ep 1, but it was handled extremely well, I thought.

They killed off my favorite character after killing off my second favorite character last time around (Ben Urich) so I have very little interest in watching the rest. Plus I keep seeing Tristan from Stardust when I see DD.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

I liked Ben a lot in the original series and was indeed devastated when he died back then. BUT that makes me all the more intrigued to see what they're going to do with his niece in this one.

I know people were upset by the death of Ben Ulrich. But it was a necessary part of building up this show. They aren't doing character death for the lols. It's clear it's meant to impact EVERYONE on this show going forward.

As for Bjorn's take on Charlie Cox... I don't agree with given we've had LONG time to come to terms with Charlie's take on Matt.

In any case, I'm stoke for this season. Especially with the clips I've seen of Muse. (Love that guy. Huge Soule fan.)

I can see why you like it but it's just not for me. Apart from the fight scenes, which are quite good, I'm not particularly invested in any of the characters. It's not bad, just not my cup of tea, and with them having killed off the two character I gave a damn about there isn't much left for me.

Had we not lived in an era with such a glut of interesting stuff to watch I probably would watch this; I just have other stuff I like more that I will watch instead.

Fair enough Bjorn.

Took me 2 nights to watch the 2 episodes that dropped, but it definitely delivered on all fronts for what I was looking for. Can't wait for the rest of the ride. I do hope they'll have a little bit of the 6 year gap filled in by flashbacks though. Don't want a full flashback every episode, or a whole episode of it, but some bits filling in the gaps would be nice.

The ending of episode 3...WOW. I cried. (well not really but my eyes did kind of well up.)

REALLY like how Matt handled this in the court room. We'll see what happens now.

Also enjoying how Vanessa is still hands on even while keeping clear for Wilson.

Maya,

It's been starting for the last two Tuesdays.

Marc,

If you insist (since I didn't want to spoil it...)

Spoiler:
Hector gets acquitted after Matt reveals his identity in court. Hector goes out on patrol, gets ambushed and shot in the head.

This shook me for real. I enjoyed all three episodes. Anxiously awaiting more.

Finally got around to last Tuesday's episode. VERY much loved the interplay between Matt and Frank. Best of all was the Muse debut. BEST showcase from a character I loved to hate.

Double episode week! Both were great, and both featured involvement from a fun character from other parts of the MCU. Hopeful for where some of those crossovers could lead.

Yep. I loved it at lot. Between the Best St. Paddy's Day themed episode and the debut of Muse, I'm VERY VERY happy with these two episodes.

Agreed. Great episodes and the bank one was especially good--an actual episode of television (as opposed to a chunk of a long story). Who'da thunk?

I'm not finding much about this on the internet, which feels strange.

Is the bank episode of Daredevil: Reborn pretty much just a diminished remake of Inside Man? The setting seems like the same building in Manhattan.

I'm not familiar with Inside Man. It may be an homage. It may just be that's a common place to shoot bank scenes in Manhattan.

SuperTumbler,

it's not necessarily a remake of that so much as it's kind of like "What does Matt Murdock do when a bank gets robbed?"

So they've resolved Muse. (Little sad he went out the way he did, but at least it wasn't a whimper.) Also it seems that Wilson and Vanessa are back to working together. Just two more episodes left. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

A couple that plots murder together stays together. So heartwarming.

I am fine with how the Muse plot ended but I wish he had a little more buildup prior... more interaction with him or characters' reaction to his art. He felt like he was just in the background mostly and then suddenly had a ton of focus. I don't think his story needed more time, just to be woven into the existing story better prior. I expect this is a result of reshoots.

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

All reports say there were no re-shoots. They simply filmed half the season, realized it was bad, and started from scratch. Nothing I've seen said they salvaged anything from the first go at it.

At least nothing that seems that way, other than maybe episode one kind of.

But I do get why people would like to see something more seamless with Muse. He was a very cool bad guy in the comics. I'm just glad he wasn't quite the one note I felt they did with Gorr.

I have one complaint about this show:

Has no one... NO ONE... in fictional New York City ever gotten Stop the Bleed training?

There's been several episodes now where someone is bleeding and nearby people just stare. FFS people... even if you don't know how to pack a wound, applying pressure is something I learned to do in 7th grade home ec! Why are all you people so useless?

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

First of all, I've never even heard of Stop the Bleed training, so I would think that training isn't as common as say, CPR. Also, when someone is shot, everyone runs for safety, there aren't a lot of people running to the victim to give first aid.

My primary complaint is that there is always someone in the show sitting next to the victim for several minutes when they could be applying pressure to the wound. They are not running for cover. So that is not an excuse. (Moreover, they are characters who should have the presence of mind and likely training to be able to do so.)

My secondary complaint is that people who deal with life saving and criminal situations in a major city are in fact likely to have received Stop the Bleed training, and even if they haven't (and therefore don't know actually how to pack a wound), basic first aid knowledge of the type I was taught in 7th grade home ec teaches people they should apply pressure to the wound. Which if it isn't widely known outside of my 7th grade home ec course, should be.

My tertiary complaint is the writers of a crime show should understand basic first aid and should be responsible and show people how to react properly to a first aid situation. (Source: am a professional writer and editor, so being a writer is no excuse not to know these things.)

Finally, now you know about Stop the Bleed training! Go get it. It could save a life of someone you love. :)

Honestly I get DQ's complaint. But honestly I'm still in the whole suspension of disbelief mode when it comes to some of this.

I STILL loved the ending and I love the pathos of this show SO! so much.

Wow....my jaw is on the floor. Between the absolute violent and bloodshed that was this episode (especially by Fisk and Frank), this was by FAR the best way to end a season. I can't WAIT for the next season!!! SOO SOOOO!!! GOOOD!!!!

I know some might say this wasn't like Neflix. I disagree. This is way better in many respects.

Also, I hope this means the Defenders show up. (Or they can always call themselves New Warriors...)

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

I'm guessing that not only will the Defenders show up, but with the set up in the bank episode, Ms Marvel. Also, we can maybe see some associated characters, like Misty Knight, Hellcat, and Colleen Wing. Theoretically, Spiderman could, but I'd doubt that he will. Could be another nice easter egg though - even along the lines of him doing things off screen; "Spiderman is keeping the rest of the NYPD busy chasing him so we can deal with the anti vigilante squad without interference".

It looks like DD season 2 will come out in March 2026, and Spiderman Brand New Day wiull come out July 31st only a few months after season 2 ends. So there could also be some nice easter eggs in Spidey referring to being on the run from Mayor Fisk recently, even if he's not in season 2.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

That was indeed really good. I'm not ready for it to be over.

I want desperately all the Defenders/Heroes for Hire/Daughters of the Dragon to appear. I'd kill just to see Jessica Jones again.

Buut... I'm not sure they'll really do that, especially with the focus more on the "normal good guys" who want to help Matt that they had in the episode. They don't tend to overload this kind of stuff with multiple heroes even when it would make sense for them to do so. But it would be super cool if they did. (And yeah, given Matt had a cameo in one of the Spider-Man movies, seems like a mention of him at least would be called for in return.)

But if we're gonna hope for everyone to show up, let's add in Echo. Her relationship with Fisk makes sense for her to be motivated to show up. (As an aside, I truly don't understand why that show had a poor reputation. It was uneven, but there was a lot to like about the show, IMO. Characters were great, action was good, and the lead actress was phenomenal. And frankly I thought it was better than many seasons of the Netflix shows, Daredevil S1 included.)

And while we're bringing everybody who knows Matt and/or Fisk, I'd also say throw in Jennifer Walters but I don't think the tone is right. Then again, Ms. Marvel doesn't seem right tonally either but I'm not sure why you'd throw in Mr. Khan if you weren't leading up to DD meeting Kamala. And well, Kamala is in California so why not bring in Jen. ;p

And since Swordsman will undoubtedly be there, that opens up for one or both Hawkeyes to attend the situation.

See? It could get unwieldy. But whereever they're going... it's gonna be good.

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

I believe I read an interview a while back, before Born Again was out, where Tatiana Maslany said she'd love to return the favor and cameo in Daredevil. So that could just be wishful thinking on her part and saying she'd be happy to, or it could be Marvel using their actors to purposefully planting seeds in the media about future events, which they've been known to do.

As for Jessica Jones, that's almost a sure thing, since Krystin Ritter was seen in NYC just as DD season 2 started filming.

And Finn Jones has had recent interviews and media coverage with him saying he'd love to come back as Iron Fist, and he's aware of the criticisms, but to give him another change. So could be another Marvel driven media story he's putting out there to prime the pump for his return, or it could again be him just having wishful thinking and/or lobbying for it to happen.

I'd love to see Echo and the Hawkeyes also be in it. If Ms Marvel is in, I think it's also a given the Kate Bishop will be in, since the last we saw them was the post credit scene of Ms Marvel starting recruitment for Young Avengers. And there's a lot of not yet officially announced, but announced, indications that Hawkeye season 2 is happening, so getting them in more recent memory can only help.

Liberty's Edge

Wasn’t there something a while back about Tatiana Maslany being angry and wanting to sue Marvel over something?

Or was that just YouTube clickbait ?

I've not seen anything of the sort. Closest I can find is Maslany saying, during the SAG-AFTRA strikes, that Bob Iger was "out of touch" (with the context to do with something awful he said during the strikes; he of course is not currently involved with Marvel directly). She may as well also have announced that Hulks are green. Hell, she was being kind. Bob Iger is a clueless piece of s#!@.

Nothing about a lawsuit and nothing against Marvel itself. Latest rumors I've heard is people speculating she's filming again for something for Marvel based on a shift in schedule she had for another thing she was making.

On the subject of all the cameos we'd like to see in the battle of New York, the more I think about it, the more it would be cool to see Misty Knight. As the justice-driven ex-cop, I'd like to see her take on Fisk's task force. (When I wrote this sentence, I meant "take" as in "I want to her what she thinks about them," but I just realized you could also read the sentence as "I'd like to see her fight them." And yeah, sure, that too.)

I have heard rumbling that Echo's 'healing' at the end of her series has been rendered worthless since Fisk is back to his old role as Kingpin.

I don't think so, necessarily. My understanding is what Echo "healed" was the psychological wound of killing his abusive father, where he had freed himself from his father but also became him. It got him stuck in this cycle of wanting to be a father figure but then be destroyed by his "child"; he got so obsessed with Echo trying to kill him and then surviving but then wanting her to kill him again... his deal with Echo actually caused him to abandon Vanessa and everything else.

The healing allowed him to let go of his daddy issues (and his "daughter" issues) and made him realize he had two things he truly loved: Vanessa and the city, which drove his running for mayor so he could possess his city in a way he couldn't have before. He's stopped trying to "mentor" people in the way he did to Echo and Poindexter. (While he has a bit of a mentor relationship with Daniel, it's not the same.)

I don't ever think it was meant to make Kingpin not evil or violent at all. Just able to let go of certain portions of his own past.

I know some of us are worried about making a DD show without much DD in it, but honestly, I'd love to see Ritter, Finn, and Colter come back JUST to prove how much the Netflix verse was good at times. If we do have to have some MCU connection, much rather we get Moon Knight. That would make for a SOLID cast of Vigilantes along side Swordsman too.

Anyway, 2026 is a ways off. We'll see when we get closer. I just can say, even as uneven at times, this was what I needed in 2025. Master class in acting and just absolutely BRUTAL/above tier John Wick violence in the MCU.

I can't wait. :)

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

I'm not expecting Moon Knight though, as last we saw him, he was in the UK. Not saying he can't travel, but with all of the NYC (and NJ) choices they have, think it would be an odd choice.

I know, Joel, but I just feel like we need Moon Knight. :p Sue me.

Unless you think we can get Shang Chi to some how show up...
