Firebrand Braggart and Curse Maelstrom

Rules Discussion

Hello, I have a question about firebrand braggart and curse maelstrom archetype.

Firebrand braggart dedication :

Quote:
You declare a boast about a particular skill action, such as Balance, Demoralize, or Recall Knowledge. The first time you attempt this action within the next minute in a context the GM deems both suitably challenging and meaningful, you must roll twice and use the lower result.

Curse maelstrom dedication :

Quote:
During an encounter, when you succeed at a check, the GM can offer to have you roll again, taking the second result. This is a misfortune effect. If you do so, you enter a curse maelstrom state.

Is it possible to use a boast to trigger a maelstrom state ?

Thanks for your future answer.

No.

A misfortune effect detrimentally alters how you roll your dice. You can never have more than one misfortune effect alter a single roll.

I would agree - no, it won't work.

My reasoning is that the example of a fortune effect cancelling the Curse Maelstrom effect from happening is just an example. The rule is that if the Curse Maelstrom offer of rolling twice and taking the lower (which is a misfortune effect) is still being cancelled if the misfortune effect is instead going towards the ability of Firebrand Braggart.

Basically, you can't pay the same cost and get two different benefits for it. You have to pay the cost twice in order to get both benefits. And you can't have both misfortune effects apply to the same check. One will get cancelled for being a duplicate misfortune effect.

Even stacking rules aside, both triggers are specific. Rolling twice from the braggart effect is not the same as being offered misfortune for the purpose oF Curse Maelstrom. The effects have nothing to do with each other and don't interact at all (except as previously stated that you can't stack them)
