Need mind repair magic so I can live my best life

Advice

I'm looking for a source of "fix my brain" magic. My character critically failed against cursed metamorphosis (baleful polymorph to you old fogies out there) and got turned into a small dog.

It occurred to me that I would LOVE to play a Cosmo-type character (from Marvel) with great innate power, so now I'm looking for a way to get my character's mind back while retaining the permanent physical form.

Please help this good boi.

(And please don't say "wish." I'm looking for something relatively accessible.)

That's pure GM-player coordination not something you should "force" through game logic.
So my very cheap solution is to talk with your GM.

Suggestion for you/your GM
A Restoration Ritual (you can either Not have read the fine print or the noch helping fumbles just the right way)

One doable but not easy GM fiat possibility is to have the party find a high Lvl NPC Alchemist that can feed Dog Focus Cathartics for a month straight or something.

The item is explicitly about purging / healing maladies that hinder the mind, and do nothing for the body.

Perhaps also feeding Dog a whole lot of Cognitive Mutagens to get some GM fiat lasting boost to the impacted mental faculties.

That's my thought too. This is a cool character concept, but it is going to need agreement from the GM and the rest of the table.

Whatever magic you use to justify it in-game, here is the previous thread on options for how to play a character that is just a dog.

Aren’t we getting awakened animals as an ancestry very soon? It seems like the “how” there is going to be pretty open ended for players.

Liberty's Edge

Given that RD is talking about literally playing a dog and is aiming to have a PC-styled consciousness within it I am highly doubtful that the AA Ancestry is going to be of much use for this concept as all of the examples seem to showcase anthropomorphic humanoid creatures that are stylized after specific animals which makes plenty of sense given that, well, there is no way they're going to be able to put out a single Ancestry even if it has a dozen heritages that can possibly cover all different animals let alone get something balanced that will enable PCs to play a single Ancestry that ranges from tiny to huge size, can burrow/climb/fly naturally, have between 0 and 8 arms/hands, and has speeds that similarly vary wildly from what is considered normal or baseline for PCs even at very high levels.

The idea and pitch that it will be open-ended for players to create as they please seems for all intents and purposes to be wishful thinking when the previews thus far all seem to point toward a "build-an-anthro" ancestry for people who want THAT sort of thing rather than rules to support a literally squirrel/box turtle/mole/horse that is biologically that animal but as intelligent as a humanoid and able to improvise/GM fiat how they'd handle equipment that would have to be specifically made just for them.

You might want to mention your character level if you want 'accessible' options: 1st level characters have a very different definition of this term than 20th level characters...

Ok then, so as a playable PC? Never, outside of GM making up both a ritual to make it happen and rules for a character with no ability to interact or manipulate objects.

Liberty's Edge

I suppose that's fair enough and supports the first few assertions in the thread that this is going to be a concept that needs to be dealt with with close coordination with the GM, a general Ancestry that follows the rest of the PC building rules is just simply not going to fit the bill even if it does lean on the upcoming "AA" Ancestry options that is very much sans rapport for what awakened animal concepts have always been.

As for the closest thing you could do to approximate this with the existing rules I think the nearest bet is to use the Possession Rules as a yardstick with a permanent duration and there being no actual "original" possessor's body which would otherwise be unconscious.

Retrain to Summoner with the dog as your eidolon and always use Meld into eidolon.
