Killing the summoner

Rules Questions

If a wizard is killed while he has an ongoing summon monster spell, do the monsters disappear?

What about summon monster spells emulated through shadow illusions?

Liberty's Edge

Those spells have a duration, so the monster doesn't dissipate. The monster will continue to attack the caster's opponents till the spell duration ends.

one thing to point out, and this is not a matter about a wizard and something he summons with a spell.

unlike these normal summoning spells, an Eidolon specifically get banished back if the summoner is killed, fall asleep or become unconscious.

There is a typical fantasy idea that spells end when the caster dies, but Pathfinder doesn't actually have a general rule like that. Spells simply last until the duration ends. You can cast continual flame on a rock and that rock could still be glowing centuries after you die.
