New to Pathfinder... haven't played since 2001 the ole 3.0 edition...
Just started with some old and new people.. and we have 4 Pcs and a Dm.. playing Kingmaker starting level 1..
The DM made us not tell what character and class each Pc was playing until we sat down (exciting and nerve racking at the same time)..
I honestly didn't know what to play.. so I made a Half-elf multiclasses (apprentice) Fighter/Deviner (specialist wizard) with a magical knack trait..
The other Pc characters are
Aasimar Sorcerer with Draconic bloodline?
Half-Elf ranger from Southern continent
Tiefling? Druid/Bard carries a club sized for Giants.. cast Shillelagh to get the 3d6 damage..
and then me.. the Fighter/ Diviner... honestly for roleplaying and in real life my character doesn't know which class to excel or go into.. or just go up in each level evenly.. or maybe decide to follow one only..
Was thinking of maybe doing arcane archer eventually..
Just asking for other people's advice..
PS.. the Dm has stated that this Kingmaker is very open sandbox and can take years (game years) to play out... did first session last Friday... very fun...

Depends what you want to achieve with the class - do you want to be a wizard with a decent fort save and bit of melee potential or a fighter who can cast a few spells when he is out of armour?
Given your party is reliant on the Ranger for a full BAB class (and he is likely a bow fiend) that leaves the Druid/Bard (a horrible melee combination) to front for the group.
I'd seriously consider the 'Fighter with some spells approach' and get to level 4 fighter before taking additional wizard levels.
Alternatively, purchase the Ultimate magic PDF (its worth the money) and ask the GM if you can make a Magus - who at least can cast IN armour and is better and being a warrior caster.

I'm still an apprentice level character (0.5 Fighter/ 0.5 Wizard[Diviner].. and I'm not into combat spells (I'm a Diviner.. so I have a huge Intiative and Truestrike spell)..
..and yes.. the ranger is using a bow (we found a decent composite longbow Str+2 (not +2 magic.. just +2 Str to damage) off our first bandit in Oleg's outpost and immediately gave it to the Ranger...
I also use a bow and could have used that STR bow... but decided it would be more beneficial for the Ranger to use it (she gave me her Shortbow composite Str+1).. a decent trade since I was using just a normal Longbow... I think she used the Rich Parents Trait so she could afford a good bow at level 1..
I have the Magical Talent Trait which gives you a +2 caster level to your spell casting class (but not above your total hitdice)..
..so when I reach level 2 and become a Full fighter/ Wizard[Diviner] I can cast spells like Grease or Light as a 2nd level caster... very cool trait for multiclass characters..
Thanks for the tips.. and yes.. I actually gave the Dm as a gift Ultimate magic (all the players did)book last Friday.. haven't checked it out myself yet

I am worried about Healing and Trap finding for that party.
Ranger & Druid/Bard are nice medics but, no doctors.
Ranger & Druid/Bard are good Perception Monkeys but, do not have trap finding.
I would let Sorcerer be pure Caster and Spam the bad guys with save DC based spells till he blue in the face.
Hopefully you will have to 2 week pet to act as some time blocker form Druid/bard and Ranger.
As Fighter/Wizard Eldritch Knight I would take Combat Expertise for defense and one or two combat maneuvers based off Combat Expertise.
I like Dirty Fighting, Trip, and Disarm. True Strike + Enlarge person is +22 plus what ever you normally have and should get through. Add in Quicken True Strike when you can cast it.
I what schools are you not taking since you are an diviner? I would look at spell that gives some type of defensive buff and endurance.
Level 1 Shield, True Strike, Enlarge Person, Protection from Evil, Burning Disarm, Break, Vanish
Level 2 Resist Energy, Protection from Arrows, Blur, False Life, Ghoul Touch, Bear's Endurance, Cat's Grace
Level 3 Heroism, Rage, Invisibility Sphere, Vampiric Touch, Blink, Haste, Magic Weapon Greater, Versatile Weapon
Level 4 Stoneskin, Invisibility, Greater
Level 5 Overland Flight, Quicken True Strike
Level 6 Bear's Endurance Mass, Cat's Grace Mass, Quicken Blur
Level 7 Invisibility Mass, Deflection, Fly Mass

Unfortunately the person playing the Druid/Bard did not take an animal companion (and wouldn't have it right now since he is an apprentice character).. and almost died during our 2nd encounter with the bandits (luckily I have another talent to stabilize people..
The Dm was nice to give us 1 campaign talent (of our choice) from Kingmaker campaign and another talent from the Pathfinder character traits web enhancement...social/magical/combat/faith..
I love the traits so much that I used one of my feats to get 2 more traits... my 1/2 Elf heritage is Elven mother and Aasimar father... I didn't want to play an Aasimar but a 1/2 elf with some magical ability simular to an Aasimar (so magical knack and sacred touch make sense)
My opposing schools are Necromancy and Enchantment..
The Eldritch sounds intersting... never seen that.. I will look into it
