RAW it may work, but it is an obvious oversite and probably will not go over well with most GM’s. I would not allow it in a campaign I run.
So would you also limit them using vital strike to only natural weapons? It doesnt list any limitation about what weapon can be used for that, but if you're houseruling one might option as well do both.
"If the ranger selects natural weapon, he can choose from the following list whenever he gains a combat style feat: Aspect of the Beast, Improved Natural Attack, Rending Claws, and Weapon Focus. At 6th level, he adds Eldritch Claws and Vital Strike to the list. At 10th level, he adds Multiattack and Improved Vital Strike to the list."

What you call "obvious" I call a baseless assumption.
The expanded list of ranger combat styles was to give the class more flexibility, I don't see an indication that a firm restriction was intended.
Indeed, the very same book that introduced the ranger combat styles beyond TWF and archery has selectable options restricted for thematic reason, in the Water patron's Elemental Body spells, so it's not as if the idea never occured to anyone at Paizo.
