Sorcerer Pheonix question

Rules Questions

The sorcerer pheonix can heal when casting spells that do fire damage. Does the immolation ability let it heal allies and itself?

Bloodline Arcana: When casting any spell that deals fire damage, you can instead heal your targets. The spell deals no damage, and living creatures affected by the spell instead regain a number of hit points equal to half the fire damage the spell would normally deal.

Immolation (Su): At 3rd level, you gain the ability to surround yourself in fire as a swift action. This fire burns for a number of rounds per day equal to your character level plus your Charisma bonus. These rounds do not have to be consecutive.
Any unarmed attacks you make while affected by immolation deal an additional 1d6 points of fire damage, and any creature that ends its turn adjacent to you while you’re affected by immolation also takes 1d6 points of fire damage.

My take is that the sorcerer pheonix CANNOT use immolation to heal, because it is a supernatural ability and not a spell.

Right, the bloodline arcana does not apply to supernatural or even spell-like abilities.

It does feel strange that Immolation didn't get included with the healing fire theme, so I understand why you'd question it.

i swear i read somewhere that bloodline arcanas always apply to bloodline powers if possible, but i can't find it. now thinking about it more it was when i was playing a bloodrager but i also can't find it there...

If it was with Bloodrager then you might be thinking about the Rageshaper archetypes Bestial Aspect ability that talks about affecting Transmutation Spells and then states at the end that it also applies to bloodline powers… this seems especially likely when you consider the simple fact that Bloodrager bloodlines have no bloodline arcana…

The Phoenix bloodline allows you to alter fire spells so that they heal instead of inflicting damage. The bloodline power is not a spell so cannot be altered to heal. Looking at the Phoenix in the Bestiaire its flame aura does not heal. The phoenix does not have the ability to turn fire to healing, but they can cast cure critical wounds at will. That would be a little too powerful, so they gave the bloodline the ability to convert fire spells to healing instead.
