What playable species would you like to see?

General Discussion

Wayfinders

There's no shortage of playable species in Starfinder, but are there any current aliens in Starfinder that you would like to see upgraded to playable?
Or is there some type of alien that somehow has been missed you'd like to see?

I'd love to see Xaarbs become playable. Sure ysoki has cheek pouches, but a Xaarb can swallow whole medium creatures.

I'm fond of ramiyels, (which do have playable stats). But they haven't gotten any additional coverage outside the AP backmatter article that introduced them.

I'm always holding out hope for the known but neglected sapient species of the Pact Worlds and Veskarium, notably Castrovel's kaymos and the talphi of Vesk-4.

How about a playable Swarm race? Most Swarm creatures are terrifying insects, but how about humanoids transformed into human-shaped insectoids in service of the hive, acting as spies, assassins and such? Imagine a Swarm infiltrator, bred "with a class", tasked to kill a civilisation at its core. Using feats, that infiltrator can obtain natural weapons taken from other Swarm species.

Like every hive alien, there are always drifters, so ;)

You're not going to believe this, but :D

(The whole "in service to the hive but take part in society until it's time to betray it from within" genestealer schtick kinda makes this sound like a monster, and not a playable species, but hey, no reason you couldn't just add some class grafts onto a shirren and go to town with that idea! Operative or Envoy graft for more of an Infiltrator vibe, or Evolutionist or perhaps Biohacker graft for more 'sprout devastating natural weaponry' flavour.)

Wow, completely missed that part :O

I thought those were native from Castrovel and always at war with Lashuntas...

Aha, I see the confusion - I believe you're thinking of Formians, which are also insectile.
Related fun fact - I don't think we know where Formians originate from, originally? They seem to be big on sending asteroids full of bébés shooting out into space to start new colonies, which is what (presumably) happened on Castrovel and Vesk-5.

Wayfinders

Formian appear in Pathfinder 2e on Akiton in Doorway to the Red Star. So if they're not native to Akiton they must have arrived a long time ago.

Ok, I kinda feel stupid for missing that fact about Shirrens XD

Now that it's out of the way, I... have no idea for aliens. I mean, it can be just about anything, and I mean ANYTHING O_o

1) Pick an animal, insect or plant
2) Make it humanoid
3) Give it outerwordly physical traits
4) ???
5) Profit :P

Space Zoo Standalone Adventure, introducing a dozen uplifted races.

An uplifted pigeon and an uplifted pig must be prominent NPCs.

Wayfinders

How about an uplifted javelina, they kind of like like a cross between a ysoki and a pig.
javelina.

At this point, an Uplifted graft would work better.

We could use a 0-HD alien race from Aucturn.

How would a 0-HD race work? Extra stamina? I like the idea. Just not sure of how you're seeing it working.

I think they're just misusing an old term from PF1e. Back in 1e, for races to be playable they were generally needing to be 0HD and instead have class levels.

So I think they just mean a playable species.

The vibe I get is that entu colony is supposed to be a sort of catch all for uplifted animals. On that note I would love for entu colony to get alternate species options, feels a little weird to be an entu elephant or something and just get a bonus to int. And yeah a bunch of other alternate options would be nice, just to fit a variety of entu animals.

Yeah, that's what I meant... Sorry, old habits :P

Between the 3 available size options, they could have listed 3 different physical modifiers (STR, DEX and CON only).

Then again, I see it as the Entu symbiote being as "physically variable" as a human.

I'd like to see some crustacean-inspired PC species. It's a bit surprising that we don't have any Crabfolk, Lobsterfolk, or what have you-folk already, honestly, considering how many terrestial or flying arthropods, aquatic cephalopods, sea anemones, and so on, we have! Gimme something that swims with a big ol' hard exo-skeleton and maybe like, some pinchy-pinchers? I mean we all know how much John C evolution loves crabs, right, so feels like a slam dunk!

The Wrikreechee seem to fit the bill on this one.

Let me turn the question around: what "licensed" alien races are currently "missing" from Starfinder? For instance, you could argue that we have our "Klingons" with the Vesk and our "Vulcans" with the Lashuntas.

So... which alien races should Paizo make its equivalent?

Lashuntas originated in PFe1. I don't think they were intended to or fit the role of Vulcans. All Lashuntas get +2 to charisma, for the Vulcans Logic as an advantage but all so a personality quark.

I love the Ferengi in DS9. I think kobolds kind of fills that role in Starfinder.

Wrikreechee doesn't have a hard exo-skeleton with an AC bonus and pinchers for a natural melee attack. A hard-shell crab could be interesting to have besides being a natural tank, it make a front-line spell caster a better option.

Ooooh, good call. Allow me to also add on: updates for borais with options for the Old Talents species feature from some of the many new species that've come out since Pact Worlds! I think it's perfect fodder for a home GM to sort out with interested players, but it'd be neat to see more of those as options in Org Play land.

Wrikreechee give me more of a mollusk, filter-feeder vibe. Doesn't quite scratch that armoured, "I pinch," itch XD

Surgeon-General's Warning: do not use a crab to scratch an itch.

A patriarchal race based around commerce and market? Oh, that could be fun :P

Oh, the swindling possibilities XD

Don't know if this would be a reasonable place to put this but i think the playable races in Starbound would be pretty neat in starfinder. especially with their different starship types. even more so with Novakid...space cowboys with there space trainz

Star... bound?

Care to enlighten me on that matter?

Ok well there are allot of races in the SF adventures that would be nice to have in one place.
Tabaxi/cathar, lion, tiger, lynx, house cat, dogs, gorillas/Wookie, racons, possums, illithid [just make them green squid heads, that dont eat brains] Squidward, Tengu/raven dudes, squirrels, chipmunk, treants Groot![that one tree race is blind...]. Hippo/giff, rabbit/Lepi, kangaroo rat, fox (not kitsune), kitsune, spiders, praying mantis, space skunks.

Squidfolks / cephalofolks... are pretty much out of the question, as WotC is very... very... VERY protective about that design.

Case-in-point: The miniature-manufacturing website HeroForge once offered squid parts for heads, unrelated to the actual mind flayer design. However, they got sued by WotC for copyright infringments. The case was settled out of court, but HeroForge had to take down the squid parts. I personally do NOT see this as a settlement when it's not close to a compromise.

Starfinder has some squid people but they're all squid, well outside the mind flayer squid headed person vibe.

That's the key difference between a walking-n-talking squid and a humanoid with a squid head.

Here's one: Yaddithians

They're literally cosmic travelers looking for new homes.

Bone Troopers/Corpse Folk and those Aucturn peeps would be my main desire, maybe also providing more info on those remaining Pact World & Azlanti Empire species?

it's a game on steam that's similar to Terraria but in space here. just think it'd be neat to see some of them in starfinder.

What playable species would I like to see (IE: a species being made SFS legal in some way)? The Entu. I really like them and see fun potential, but they are not SFS legal.

What playable species would I like to see (IE: species exists in lore, but isn't yet stat-blocked)? The "snake headed girl" race. In Starsugarheartlove there were those Snake Head girls that you carry on your shoulders. One of my players absolutely adored them. He wants to play one, but so far as we can tell, there is no breakdown for them in any Starfinder resource.

What playable species would I like to see (IE: a concept that doesn't exist yet, but would be great)? Pig people. As a Star Wars fan, the Gamorrean was my favorite space-race. I love the idea of an obese pig people getting to be known for being tough. It's super inclusive for body type diversity, in a world where fat people are normally very marginalized and ignored (or mocked and made to be comic relief and bumbling idiots).
