[GM Needed] Curse of the Crimson Throne: Anniversary Edition?

Recruitment

Hi all!

I'm a player in a Curse of the Crimson Throne game that just got past the first adventure. Unfortunately our GM had to bow out and we now find our merry band of do-gooders listless and floundering just out of the docks.

You can find the Gameplay thread here.

Where we are:

We just finished Lamm off and we're at the Sanctuary of Shelyn in the Five Corners district where one of the PCs has ties and where we sent the Lamm's Lambs that didn't run off into the night. Everything is currently going sideways.

The Merry Band
Lania 'Shrike' Fordyce Half-Elf Vigilant played by Cinnabar
Abella Tribastarion Half-Elf Shaman played by Hrothdane
Garrett Goodbarrel Halfling Rogue played by Malinor.
Lina Derexhi Half-Elf Sorceress played by Nickadaemous
Audria Human Paladin of Shelyn played by AdamWarnock

We're pretty active for the most part. If you want to know more, please feel free to ask away.

We’re fresh and I think have some really promising character dynamics!

Howdy players! Nothing is worse then when a game seems to be going well, and the GM has to leave for reasons.

A little bit about me and my current situation:

  • I used to be an avid PbP player for many years, so have run and played in many a game that either dried up or ended for whatever reasons (sometimes me, not going to lie). I took a break for a few years...think it's about 4 or so?...before recently discovering a desire to be back on here being creative again.
  • Started a couple of games as a player, but they definitely seem to be moving slow enough that I could run a game of my own.
  • I'm familiar with CoCT...mostly. Many yeas ago, I read my OGL paperback modules of CoCT 1-6, and I remember the flow and story pretty well. While I do own the Anniversary edition, I haven't fully run through it, and I know there are some changes, so I will need to re-read and re-acquaint myself.
  • I am about to begin the process of moving to a new apartment, so over the course of the next month or so, my posts may be short and mostly to keep things moving. I may create a "filler" segment to keep you all roleplaying while I refamiliarize myself with the CoCT - PF1 version.

    As a GM:

  • In my previous games, I used Roll20, and hopefully my account still exists since I like the ease of updating the maps and giving players control of their own tokens for movement, etc. Would anyone be opposed to using Roll20?
  • I am not a rule purist. If I decide I don't like how a particular mechanic will affect the scene, I may choose to alter it.
  • I don't think the heroes can do whatever they want without consequences. If I'm giving you clues that the gal you're picking a fight with is a veteran back from a war, consider carefully whether you really want to poke that bear. If you die because of your own bad choices, I will have no sympathy.
  • My goal as GM is help present a story where players can figure out their characters and fully realize the concept and personality they see in their mind. I know that means different things to different people, so if something isn't working out, let me know.
  • I'm not opposed to house rules, and I may institute one or two myself if it seems appropriate.

If you think you'd like to give me a chance, let me know so I can get to reading. :)

  • Hi pinvendor! Thank you so much for being interested. I know it's a big task to take on. Your GM notes and goals on house rules, etc. sound great to me and I would certainly be on board with you stepping in as GM. Completely understand that your posting for a month or so would be limited while you move and re-familiarize yourself with the adventure again. I have used Roll20 before a long time ago and don't anticipate any problems using it. Thanks again for responding!

Let me second Lania's thanks. I also don't see any issues on my end with anything. I completely understand the need to refamiliarize yourself with an adventure, and I think we're at a good place to have a little side adventure that's rules-light while you do so and get settled at your new place.

I'm honestly not sure how much time I should give for any other potential GMs to make an offer, but I guess I can go ahead and check in with you guys.

I know two of you responded an affirmative which I appreciate. Do any of the others have an opinion?

Also, I see you started with 6 PCs, but lost one along the way. I haven't fully reviewed everyone's sheets yet, so figured I'd ask if we are short on a specific class/abilities the missing player was providing. Do we need another small recruitment? Obviously, I can see if any of the other prior applicants are still available or just go for someone new.

I think we have most of the bases covered. I'll ping the others to see what they think.

Hi there! This is Abella’s player. Thanks for throwing your hat in.

Roll20 is great with me. I GM on it myself.

I’m with you on most things, though I do have some concerns about being loose with the rules. I’ve had GMs just decide in the middle of a combat that a prepared player spell doesn’t work because they don’t like it, and that was supremely frustrating. I like a collaborative atmosphere, and will do whatever is in my power to contribute to that. I will regularly make GMs aware ahead of time of weird abilities or things I know they will be unfamiliar with so that they have an opportunity to make rulings then. Essentially, I can be okay with things shifting, but I prefer a warning.

All of that said, it’s just a concern, and I certainly don’t want to deny us a game over it. I just want to let you know where I’m at

Fortunately, you’re in luck when it comes the rules issue. Most of my ‘adjustments’ are regarding when the pre-written encounter seems to be trying to force certain requirements or means for the players to progress. I’ve read plenty of APs/modules where the gimmick for the fight is just plain stupid.

Generally, changes I make are more about keeping the game in line with what the players and myself have created and not allowing some ad hoc adventure encounter ruin things.

Aha, then we are on the same page! Sounds like we are all good as I’m concerned :D

Hello Pinvendor. Thanks for the interest!

Just heard from Lina's player. If you're up for it, we're happy to have ya!

Hey pinvendor, you are amazing for rescuing this game. It is easy to start a campaign, hard to finish one.

I always encourage DMs to add their own touch to canned adventures. Always nice to make a motivation more clear, add some diplomatic options that may have not been there, throw an NPC in that has flavor to show the characters around, etc.

Holy cow. Wowbagger?! I knew Chainmail looked familiar. We used to run in those old werewolf/mafia games. LOL!

Alright, crew. Looks like I’m your boy as no one else has jumped in. I’ve already started skimming the gameplay thread, so I will get something written up to keep you moving hopefully no later than Friday.

Looks like my CoCT Anniversary hardcover is already packed, so I ordered a pocket copy which should arrive soon. I’m excited to see what kind of story we will tell together!

This is my GM alias, so expect to see a lot more from it. ;-)

Hurray! Glad to have you, GM Pinvendor.

That is great news. I am looking forward to it!

    Happy to have you!

My nemesis was a cat. I forget his name.

Hey you have your own Wowbagger alias!! — cool!!

    Meowselworth, a female Canadian. :D

Yeah, we did some freeform role play with the characters from one of the mafia games. Wowbagger returned as a big bad since he was an assassin in that iteration if I recall correctly.

If you need a sixth, I would like to add a gnome bard to the group. If not, you can keep me on the bench in case you lose someone. Pinvendor put one of his characters at risk in my game, I should at least offer to reciprocate.
