Access to the Reanimator Archetype for PFS

Pathfinder Society

Hello!

How would I access the Reanimator Archetype found in Book of the Dead (p.34) for PFS? I checked the boons section but I did not see it available for purchase (unless I missed it?).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking at the sanctioning, that archetype is limited. So it will likely be a boon that will be purchaseable.

But it has not been made available yet.

Edit. See my next post.

It looks like " Specialized Training - Undead Companions" for 20 AcP might get you what you are looking for.

I can't be sure without seeing the text of the boon.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Here is the text for Undead Companions

"Specialized Training - Undead Companions
Gain access to undead companions from Pathfinder Book of the Dead for this character."

I'm hoping they make "Specialized Training: Reanimator" purchasable soon (if at all) :)

It's possible that access to the archetype might not be purchasable, but instead a boon from a scenario. We probably won't know for sure either way until it's released but the fact that it isn't up on the site and called out separately leads me to believe it's absence right now is intentional.

It's an archetype that's kind of right on the edge: focusing on using corpses (not just the animate dead spell) and access to specific rituals which aren't used in PFS (create undead).

Yeah, I was worried that it might be tied to a particular scenario since it was singled out as you mentioned. Thank you for your response!

The text is available at the pathfinder society faq, linked here since the book was sanctioned, and I've pasted it here too.

Spoiler:
Specialized Training - Undead Companions: While some see undead as purely disposable minions, you see them as long-term allies. This character gains access to the following undead companions: ghost, skeletal mount, skeletal servant, vampiric animal, and zombie (Book of the Dead 38–39). These undead companions function like animal companions in all ways, aside from the differences enumerated on page 37 of Book of the Dead.

The Additional Resources says Reanimator is limited, but the boons section says you can purchase Hallowed Necromancer for 40 ACP.

Should this be Hallowed Necromancer limited and 40 ACP or Reanimator limited and 40ACP? Both? Neither?

Hallowed Necromancer is Uncommon, so it needs a boon to access. If we didn't want HN to be accessible we wouldn't change it to limited, we'd just let the Rarity system do the "banning" for us.

Reanimator is common and we don't want it to be accessible right now, so we've made it limited.

In short, the boons and Character Options are all correct. We want people to have access to Hallowed Necromancer, and we do not want Reanimators in the campaign at this time.

oh, I see. I always forget to look at the rarity. Thanks.

Ok seeing the text, Reanimator is not made accessible. And from Alex's comment, my guess is that we will see an adventure or some other boon that will open the archetype.

BTW, thanks for the link. I was working on my phone, which makes things SO much harder.

I’m so glad that Reanimator is common because I’ll be making multiple PCs with it! :D

Thanks for your clarification!

Just to be clear: because Reanimator is Limited, you will be making 0 PCs with it in PFS, regardless of its rarity. Feel free to do what you like in adventure mode games*!

*but always ask your GM

Thank you for the clarification! :D

I would like to know when the boon is available to take Reanimator

There is no guarantee that it will ever become available, and revealing scenario boons is discouraged and frowned upon so it's highly unlikely to get an answer for the "when". If it ever becomes available, it's likely through a scenario boon and will (or at least, should) be a surprise when you play through that scenario.
