So i actually took a closer look at this spell after one of my players finaly got access to it.( vivi alchemist). And im wondering, it say it cures
"4d8 points of damage + 1 point per caster level (maximum +35)" that last bit seem kinda wierd to me. How many casters have a caster level of 35?
Anyone has any idea why it is capped so? (My 1st thought is its a leftover from 3.5 or something. But even then cl 35 was rare to non exist.)
Edit: might be that its a power multiplyer - 1st level cure cap is 5. 2nd is 10 etc. This is generly 7th) . the vivi got it as 5th level extract so i missed that

I think that the intent is that the total damage healed is capped at 35 hp. I agree that it's badly worded.
Nope. Otherwise cure light wounds would heal of a maximum of 5 hit points. Its worded exactly the same as the cure X wounds line of spells.
When laying your hand upon a living creature, you channel positive energy that cures 1d8 points of damage +1 point per caster level (maximum +5)
Its a maximum of +35 to the 4d8 of healing. The +x is based on caster level. As for getting a caster level of 35, that is a different story. But the same also holds for the "mass" versions of CxW spells.
eg
You channel positive energy to cure 1d8 points of damage + 1 point per caster level (maximum +25) on each selected creature.

Yeah, it's likely about consistent game design (static addend caps at 5 * spell level). Such design is easier to grasp for players, hence they feel more in control, hence they have more fun.
At the same time, it's also an optional challenge for the players: How to make best use of such a high cap? They don't have to face it (the spell will do its job either way), but getting CL very high for a specific spell can be an interesting mental exercise.

yes - Regeneration is capped to prevent abuse at the standard 5*SplLvl(=7th) for consistency.
Caster levels can vary so this is just a very high bonus cap.| zza ni |

i got a mental image of a cult leader amassing his troops for a big ritual casting of regenerate that will grant him caster level 35 AND maximize the spell.
*2 rounds into the casting*
(cult leader) "that's it! soon our combined powers would unleash the spell's ultimate form for the first time in history! just the thought if it makes me shudder!" (thinks about that juicy 32+35 hp cure)
*door opens*
"Big brother, what are you doing?" (Cult leader's younger sister. level 11 clerics pokes her head in)
"oh! there is a poor kitty with a booboo!"(sister)
"here-" (sister)
"no wait-" (leader)
"heal!" (sister)
*+110 hp* (green text appear above the wounded Warcat)

"So..are we still doing this?" (cult member whipers)
